I just read where there is a new bill pending before congress that would provide a certain amount of protection for gay/lesbian/transgendered people...
While the actual status of the bill is still up in the air, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. From what I read there are only 5 or 6 states that actually have laws in place that provide protection for transgendered people...CA, Wisc. Maine, Ok, DC, and Mass. I think that have such laws...
Comments girls...

For most of us, the fear of being discovered, or found out, has nothing to do with the law. The law may provide some small protection from assault, but isn't going to eliminate our fear of ridicule, or embarrassment, or job loss, or all the other reasons we stay in the closet. And even with new laws, most of us will still worry about our neighbors or others finding out.

Laws are no protection when you are faced with someone who means you harm. The last time I checked murder was still illegal.

I can honestly say that I have never had any trouble whatsoever. That day may come, but I doubt that the government will be of any help if it does.

There should be Hate laws in all the states and we should fall under them, but you never know, all someone has to say is that, they don't like you, and it's not about what you are wearing, Prove it!

I'm all for anything that allows the liberal mentality to prevail. I do think at least in my part of the world which is Las Vegas and Los Angeles nobody cares if they see a crossdresser, transgender, or transvestite. People are so caught up in their own lives that they barely notice.

The problem with such laws is they fall short of providing for enforcement. Hardly matters if something is illegal if the penalty is petty.

Check out this link to The National Center for Transgender Equality to see what states already have anti-discrimination laws:
http://www.nctequality.org/Issues/Discrimination.asp
If you read on elsewhere on the site, you will also learn what you can do to help implement the law nationwide and in individual states that do not have protection for us at this time.

I think it would be nice to have laws to protect Transgender people.
However, I'm rather upset, that the FBI's crime statistics, do not show how much "Gay Bashin" is going on in this country.
As of year 2006, local and state police and governments, are not required to report assaults on Gay or Transgender people. Most assaults on Gay and Transgende people, don't even get reported at the local level.

At least it is a baby step, we are not going to get it all at one time. But a little here and a little there, maybe it won't help a lot us but there will be others that follow, and just maybe it will help them. after all it hasd taken the blacks over 100 years since slavery, and they still don't have it all. the gay movment started 40 years ago, and they still don't have it all. but both of those groups are a lot better off now, than when they started. So take what you get, but don't settle, keep wanting more. I'm old and i won't live to see the end of this battle for equility, but I still want it!

unfortunatly the Laws are slow to be put in place. on an average 2 TG Girls have been murdered every month for the last severl years. seems as we are
disposable casue there always isn't allot of effort put into catching the Murderer
Here is the BEST site I have found for world wide news on Transgender People.
