This morning while listening to a radio show they read a report that said that a cosmetic company, Benetint, was coming out with "nipple tint". Something else we don't need!
Later one of the hosts who is susposed to be a makeup expert, it's a guy, said that it was physically impossible for a woman to put on mascara without her mouth being open. I asked my wife if that were true and she thought so. I asked her to put some more mascara on but she declined, something about having to go to work. She obviously has no research interest!
I'd try myself but since I'm looking for a specific outcome I wouldn't be a good test subject. I'm asking you with wives and SOs to watch them and see if that's true. Don't tell them what you're doing it will mess up the research.

Never thought about it, but here's photographic evidence.

Why, yes you have to hold your mouth right when appling it. My SO sometimes wiggles her tongue a bit as well.

I just finished putting my makeup on and after reading this had to try it again. Yep, my mouth was open for the mascara. I have no idea why.

It's like watching sports on the TV. When they get ready for the big play, you have to have your mouth just right or the plays outcome will be all wrong.
It's all true. I've never met anyone who can do it closed-mouthed.

LOL it is possible :heehee:
But sometimes it's just easier to stretch your face/lashes into the right position by pulling that face
(A similar face is pullable with mouth-closed too btw... I've tried!)
And concentration sometimes requires some silly face-pulling, you should see me at my pc sometimes with my tongue out! :p

As you know, we tip our head back to get our upper lids to lay lower so we can apply the mascara without running into our eyebrows. The tipping of the head back stretches the muscles at the front of the throat, and since we are not focusing on our mouths, the jaw muscles relax to relax the throat muscles and the jwa come down opening our mouths.
At least that is my excuse.

I can not put on mascara without my mouth opening so yeh I think it is true, and some of theexplanations about muscles and such make perfect sense.
As for the nipple tint i just wish they would come up with a magic pill that would grow breast for a day at a time and then they shrink back while sleeping. Of course for me I would hook up an IV so they would never shrink back,ha, ha

I like Dee's excuse, but I do not know if I do it or not since I rarely use the stuff.

I have read that opening one's mouth while applying mascara opens the eyes up to allow better application.
