A friend of mine who hangs out on newsvine showed me this, and I figured I'd pass it along.

It's a thread for guys to say what movies make them cry. So lets turn it over to us: what movies make you cry?
I'll go right out and say some chick flicks DO make me cry, the few I watch. "Out of Africa", "Finding Neverland", and "The English Patient". Also "Rent". As for less girly movies, basically any scene where people are pushed beyond their limits to help others, that gets me going, though I usually try to choke it back. "Shawshank" is an obvious choice. And the end of "Return of the King". I liked the one guy on the thread who was like "honor makes me cry". And the episode of Scrubs mentioned, with Brendon Frasier, wow that got me going like you wouldn't believe. But I love Dr. Cox.

I don't cry watching films, generally. Actually, I haven't since I saw 'Where the Red Fern Grows' and 'Old Yeller' when I was a kid. And probably 'Bambi' cos that's just ridiculously sad, too.
I came close when I saw 'Peter's Friends' for the first time, though.

As if I ever cry... ehem!! Ok fine I do :D
ROTK does me in too.. the Éowyn./Théoden bit... you know what I'm talking about.... (don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it... I have been told off for that before :p) anyway that bit sometimes has me really coughing & crying.
And the whole LOTR thing in general makes me very emotional.

I usually tear up at movies that hit close to home - like Boys Don't Cry or Brokeback Mountain. I also lost it at the end of Revenge of the Sith, when Padme is giving birth. I've seen it several times now and I always think this time I won't cry - but I always do.

The Dirty Dozen and Brian's Song are supposed to be the stereotypical guy movies that reduce men to tears. I'll admit that Brian's Song was sad, but I didn't cry. Never seen The Dirty Dozen, but I doubt I would cry there either.

I can't remember if I cried at Boys Don't Cry. I think it just made me feel sick that people could be so evil.

I think I cried watching Boys Dont Cry for the first time, but I don't remember 100%. There's this one Japanese film, Princess Kaguya's Lover, that made me cry too. And Rent. I think Another Country and Doing Time on Maple Drive did too, but they hit really close to home.

I cried when I saw "A Walk To Remember" ( and during the book too). But other than that when animals are hurt or die (not during battle scenes but on their own), that makes me sad. I know it's not real, but still I get misty eyed.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I can't watch movies where animals or kids are mistreated or abused, especially if the animal dies. Too sad for me. :(

Good question, Melanie. I think this thread is to discuss movies that make guys cry, so if anyone identifies as male at all, then I think it would be okay to answer. But it's up to Bi to decide that (the original thread started). What do you think, Bi?

The interesting part for me is to compare what makes GMs cry to what makes transguys cry. But I don't mind if y'all answer too. Spose that's another interesting comparison. So go right ahead, tell us what makes you cry.

I think some pre-op transmen will have a slightly stronger tendancy to cry at some stuff (due to no fault of their own) 'cos of those female hormones kicking in strongly at certain times of the month.
Sometimes you literally cannot help getting weepy, just 'cos of female biology.

Often under the infulence of those hormones I feel like I'm not being myself. Sometimes I can get ridiculously angry, or really really sad. And I know it's not me... it's those darn hormones!
& other stuff that makes you feel really rough/down around that time (like fevers etc)! They're very hard work sometimes!

SACRALIGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't even talk to me...

I teer up at the end of both Return of the Sith, and Brokeback Mountain. That's about as far as I go with movies (books are another story all together though).

Uest to cry in the Lion King, when Mofasa died when I was little. Oh, as E.T., but that was only because I was scaired and wanted him to die (I was not a generous child).

Oh yeah, that's the worst combination - female hormones together with weepy movies. :(

Ha, ha . . . I know the second SW trilogy doesn't even compare to the first one, but it's the ending that ties the two stories together, so it's cool. Besides the showdown between Anakin and Obi-Wan is awesome!

dude that is the best lightsaber duel ever. I do like the costumes and the graphics better in the new trilogies, but nothing beats the originals.

:D now I want a lightsaber to beat someone up with.

Hrm. I don't cry at a lot of movies. Finding Neverland made me cry, as well as Pay it Forward and Blow. Oh, and Ever After makes me cry everytime I see it, but I think those are the only movies that really made me cry. I have this weird inability to cry at movie theatres. I'll go with friends and they'll be bawling their eyes out, but I'll just be sort of choked up a bit. It's nice, though. I hate crying in public.
I hated Revenge of the Sith. It was just so poorly done I couldn't take it seriously. They couldn't even make Padme die of complications in birth or something...no, it was a 'broken heart.' I think anyone who's lived through their teenage years knows that you don't just up and die from broken hearts. [/rant]

That's exactly like me! Especially when I was a little kid.

Father/son moments get me. Like a walk to remember when he asks his dad for help. Boys don't cry made me cry too cuz I think it touched too close to home. Though not a lot of movies do make me cry just those dumb really touching father/son things usually.

'Boys Dont Cry' was an obvious one, but I am suprised no one has mentioned 'Philladelphia' that films cuts me to the quick, even typing this thinking about it has got a lump in my throat. Erm... I cried at 'Fried Green Tomatoes' too years ago, lol

Okay, I'll say it . . . I'm man enough to admit that Finding Nemo merits a tear - the scene near the end where Dory is begging Nemo's dad not to leave her alone. So sad . . . :(

Did anyone find Forrest Gump a rollercoaster of the emotions? You know that scene where they are throwing rocks at him and his callipers broke in slow motion... and the bit when Lt Dan comes to visit him... and where Jenny hides in the field... or when she throws a stone through the window of the old house... or when she comes home to die... or, or when he meets Forrest Jr and asks if he's smart... or just the whole damn film? And that piano solo that haunts everything and the swirling orchestral pieces... and and and *sniff* Awwwww I love that film.

Do any of you boys feel the same way?

Rollercoaster is right, Lisa. Just when something got me misty, something else would make me crack up. It was schizophrenic! But it's a great movie. :D

Yes. Forrest Gump is very emotional.

I think when I was little I saw it at the cinema with some family and I had a well bad lump in my throat.

I saw it again recently & it definitely got me all emotional.
I think I cried!

Or when she's swimming around the chain and can't remember where she is and what she's doing...yeah. The very very end of Monster's Inc. gets me misty-eyed too, where Boo is all "kitty!" and you can see that blue guy's face just light right up. I forget his name.

I was at the premiere of that at the Venice Film Festival.

I actually had to walk out because it distressed me so much.

I had to go to a bar and have Jack Daniels. (Ok so I do occasionally drink lol).
