Quick question:
I will be flying home later today and although I won't be "dressed" outwardly, I would like to wear my bra (underwire) and possibly my garter belt with metal clips (don't know what they are called) under some loose clothing. Will this small amount of metal underneath set off security and result in unwanted attention? I'm sure some of you have been through security dressed similarly. What can I expect?
Thanks for your advice,
Brookie

That little bit of metal WILL set off security beepers. Unless you want to be completely embarassed by security in front of alot off poeple, don't do it.

Karynspanties,
Thanks for the info. I think I will take your advice. How is it that women go through dressed like that every day and not set off beepers? I think I'll just wear my garter belt and stockings and carry my bra in my backpack and after going through security I'll slip into a restroom and put my bra on in a stall. Think that will work?

The "under wire" in your bra maybe plastic. But, the metal clips on the garter belt are metal, may set off the detector?

Too much metal in one area will cause it to go off. Say you have this on and a watch and ring etc.. Yes it will set it off.

At that point you get one more walk thru and then sent for a HHMD search (hand held metal detector search). They will then obviously find what you have on.

Speaking with other TSO's I did hear them say they had guys with bras on. If you ever are in this situation then just tell them, they will have to pat that are down to see what it is.

Remember if you are dressed as a lady then you will be searched by a woman :)

I set off the alarm with a car key that was in my wallet so it is fairly certain that you will too. If you don't want to be embarassed don't do it.

I made it thru the airport security today without a problem. I wore my garter belt but it had plastic clips. I decided to just pack my bra in my backpack and found a restroom to put it on after the security check. I enjoyed being "partially" dressed on the plane and had a great trip home. Some day I will get more brave. Thank you to all who responded to my question with your advice. It's really good to have others to bounce things off of.

I don't think I got a chance to post in your other thread. My brother brought home a woman friend's extra clothes when he flew home from Europe years ago. When he got home and went through customs, they found her bras and panties that she didn't want to carry around Europe in a backpack. My parents and I stayed outside customs for about 45 min. after everyone else was gone waiting for him. My dad though he was carrying pot or something. All because of a little lace!

My wedding ring and reading glasses have never set off the metal detectors and I used to fly about 8 times/month.

There is a huge difrence in Customs and TSA even though they are both part of Dept. of Homeland Sec.

I don't understand why anyone would take a risk of embarrassment going through metal detectors and having the personnel find out that your bra or suspender belt set off the machine.

I would think it would be best to wait until I got to my destination or at least through security.

Yeah, no need to bring extra attention to yourself from the TSA there!

My advice would to put the garter belt, stockings, and bra in your carry on. Then once thru the screening, find a handicap or family restroom. Go in, lock the door, and change. It will be safer and you will not be embarrest.
Or better yet, have a complete outfit in your carry on. While in the family restroom, change your clothes, put your makeup on, wig, jewlery, heels, and do the rest of the flight en fem. While your sitting waiting for your flight, take your nail polish out of your purse and paint your nails. I have seen many GG's do that in airports.

Too late to be of use in this particular case, but the definitive answer to will airport metal detectors spot a bra is maybe.

They actually detect the movement of metal so will often detect a watch if you swing your arms but not if you cross your arms in front of you. Walk slowly and squarely through the middle of the arch and detection is unlikely.

Car keys in wallets - is it a modern key with electronics on board? The arches will detect electronics far more easily than metal.

So the answer has to be maybe. For peace of mind, don't wear a bra. If you actually want the frisson of possible detection, but with a fighting chance of getting away with it...

I have two metal plates in my head, and they have never set off the detectors. Last time I flew, I wore pajamas.(mens) It was the most comfortable flight ever.

Back at Christmas, I had to escort my two sons to their plane. I went through Security wearing a "Barely There" bra with no underwire, but metal hooks with no problem. No forms though.
