Outside of Crossdressing my second weekness in cars. When purchasing a new car I am careful to choose a model that has the factory tint on the windows, however they do not tint the driver and passenger front doors from the factory, haveing these windows tinted is a must for me. It gives me that added sence of security while dressed and when leaveing my neighborhood especially in the summertime. Was just curious if any other gals have their windows tinted for this reason. I know that certain State and City Laws restrict the shade of tint that is allowed, but this seems like one of those issues that isn't strictly enforced. Lucky me............

It's a good idea to get them tinted anyway. Otherwise you will have a tanned left arm!

Well I don't see why this is a big problem, people really don't look into your car and if they do its not that close of an inspection.. I know that WE do, and since we look we assume that everyone else does too... But most people have way too much else on their minds to be looking for potential crossdressers in neighboring autos... In my opinion!!

I've worn makeup, and jewelry and breast forms in male mode while driving with the window open and no one has ever taken a second glance.. So far...

I agree with Karen. My SUV doesn't have a lot tint on the front windows, but I have not had any problem driving en fem. Most people will not even look at you and if they do and you look at them, they usually will look away. Getting the front windows tinited is a good idea anyway. It helps kept the sun from washing out the dashboard and seats. It also helps keep the heat down inside too.

Moi? Oh I knew this would happen eventually. Karren is a prolific writer here and I am aspiring to be. So if we don't use the two r's in her name, things will get confusing quickly! :p

This same line of reasoning can be applied to those of you who think you may not pass when out in the efemme mode. When shopping, etc., do you think people look at every woman and wonder "is this a man or woman?" Of course not. I think a lot of you gals will be just fine when out. Go for it.

Hi Paula

Your are more likely to get questions form colleagues on who was driving your car +?

Some may recognise the car and the plate

It may help if you have a passing resemblence to a family member

Without taking sides, I'll just add a humorous parable...

I had very long hair in 1984, before having discovered the hairnet. My car (VW Rabbit diesel) had no air conditioning, and in the summer, temperatures were very often in the high 90's F, and sometimes in the low 100's. Driving with tinted windows up was simply NOT an option.

I tried a pony tail, but so many hairs were not quite long enough. I tried sunglasses, but the wind still whipped the hair into my eyes - stinging - so I could not see to drive safely.

... so I tried my full-face motorcycle helmet, and it worked perfectly! However, people did notice, and some of them got pretty hostile and aggresssive, so thank goodness I discovered the hairnet.

Shortly after that, it was time for me to get a real job, which put an end to the days of having long hair. I miss that.

In many states, tinted driver's windows are illegal, at the request of police departments. When they pull over a car for a broken brake light, they don't want to approach the driver when they can't see them. About a mile from my house, a town policeman pulled a car into a country club parking lot. When he walked up to the car, the guy let loose a shotgun blast into the cop's chest, killing him.

On a less somber note... I hate those things! It's already hard to see through an intersection with a SUV in front of me, and now the windows are blacked out, so I have to sit and wait while the damn thing pulls all the way out of the intersection before I can even begin to move!

Don't take it personally, but grrrrrrr.....

Oddly enough, even though they can ticket you for tinted windows in Michigan if you can get a prescription from your Optometrist for it they're legal. Now what the criteria are for such a thing I don't know, some sort of light sensitivity, I suppose.

I've seen plenty of vehicles with all the windows tinted. Except for the windshield, maybe... And that is tinted at the top part usually.

Maybe that's just here in Maryland, so maybe your next auto purchase should be in another state where all windows can be tinted from the factory.

It seems that most government vehicles in DC have tinted windows. But that's not really a state either. It's almost like a whole other country at times.

I think this is a non issue.

Next time you go for a drive, just try and figure out how many CDers you can spot by looking in their car windows. Not very many, I suspect. The kind of scrutiny needed for this kind of identification is just not available while driving a car. I would be more worried about the added attention you will get from the police by having non-standard tinted windows. It really SHOUTS that you are doing something you don't want others to see. I would much rather just blend in.

Some states the police will pull you over and test the windows with a gun, simular to a radar, if its to much they can ticket you.m I know from experiance, as I worked for the highway dept. and was shown the equipment by the police officer, so If it is tinted be careful, who knows when youll get pulled over, and if en dressed ohoh, Charolette

I dropped my car off at the mall this morning and rode with two coworkers to a meeting, when I returned I went into the mall and bought 3 new pair of large dangly clip-ons at Claires... (Sale buy 2 get 1 free!!!).

When I got back to the car I put a pair on and drove 45 minutes through stop and go driving with the windows down... Zero reactions not even a stare!! Now I look 100% male today... Ok maybe 92.5%. Hehe and a guy with large silver and white dangy earrings should stickout like a sore thumb if 1) anyone were paying attention or 2) anyone cared... So just a little experiment to show you that, at least to the general public, your more obsessed about this than they are... Now if you don't want people that kniow you and your car to see you that's a different story...

Ohhhhh and it was fun wearing earrings anyway.... Like I needed an excuse!! Hehe

In many states, tinted driver's windows are illegal . . . (police) don't want to approach the driver when they can't see them.

Currently Georgia's window tint statute is on hold due to a recent court case. The state legislature is scrambling to try and write a new statute to limit what density non-factory installed window tint can be! Prior to the court case I mentioned, the police would pull people over who had really dark tint (front side windows and windshield are what the law covered) and would ticket a person if their measuring device said it was too dense. My son paid two rather hefty fines for his tint! (It seemed to me that, at least down here, the police targeted certain vehiles -- kids in pickup trucks and people driving low-riders, "pimp-mobiles," etc.)

I'd rather drive with no tint (and I have) than chance being pulled over en femme and found to be hiding behind tint -- knowing some law enforcement officers, some would give someone hiding behind tint a hassel, while ignoring someone wihout it, even if they noticed you were en femme.

Every state is going to be different, but I agree with what has already been stated: we are far more conscious about it when driving en femme than the drivers around us. Most are so preoccupied they'll never noice, or, if they have a suspicion, won't have a good enough look to confirm anything.

The legal tint here in Victoria (Australia) is about 35%. When i had the windows of my car tinted about 6 years ago, the guy applied more than that, about 45 -50%. He was a window tinter by trade, and did back yarders on weekends for cash. First thing he said to me was, "you know this isn't legal don't you?" To which my reply was, "yeah i know, hurry up and get the job done"

Plus it's OK for the police cars, mobile speed cameras, and just about every imported japanese car to have reflective tint, so what's the difference?

Oh yeah, when driving at night, the tint dosen't matter anyway when the roads are lit.

Here in Germany you're not allowed aftermarket tint, but as soon as I get back to the states I'll get it tinted.

My rear windows and rear passanger windows are tinted. I need to be able to see who's coming too much to risk getting the other windows tinted. If I'm in the city and some sleazy looking guy starts approaching then I want to see that fast as I only have limited time to open my centre console and grab my gun.

I can see by the response to this thread that I should have went a little more into detail, o.k. hear goes. First of all live in a Gated Community, where everyone knows everyone, I mean where you work, what kind of car you drive, where you shop etc. When you drive down the street all of the walkers and cyclist that are out give a friendly wave and always say hi and call you by name. All of this is fine from a security standpoint, however when in fem. it makes it tuff especially in the summer when everyone seems to be outside. Thats why I decided to get my windows tinted, and I was just curious to see if others have the same type neighborhoods. I guess on the other hand I could drive to a rest area stand in line to use that unisex toilet, then when driveing wear a pair of Giant sun glasses to hide my face. Whatever works for you....The Tint works for me.:tongueout

I agree with you 100%. Tinted windows are dangerous for police. Big vehicles that have all tinted glass block a LOT of vision of the road if you are behind or beside one in traffic and finally part of safe driving is making eye contact with other drivers at intersections. With fully tinted windows, there is no eye contact.

In my state (VT) it is illegal to have the windshield, driver's side or front passenger's side windows tinted.

regarding CDing and tinted windows... I wouldn't want to anyway. Half the fun of going out dresses is the thrill of being seen. If you are 'hiding' behind tinted windows, you might as well have stayed home!

In California, it is illegal to add tinting, over and above the factory level, to the front drivers and passenger windows. This is allegedly so a police officer can see the driver when making a traffic stop. I can understand this from a officer safety point of view. However, I do see a lot of cars with those windows dark tinted and enforcement does seem to be erratic. My daughter got a ticket for this years ago, so I have never done it to my cars. Before I leave the house as Vikki, I just make sure none of my neighbors are standing around outside where they might see me.

I too love dark windows and have never been pulled over for it. I think I found a small legal loophole. Some states have statutes that allow darker than normal tint for cars over a certain age because of when the tint law was enacted. I'm not sure which state you're in, but check it out, especially if you have a classic car.

I don't have the darkly tinted windows on any of my cars, except for the factory tint on rear windows of my Navigator, which I had to take since it is the only way they build them. It is unattractive to me. I also don't drive the truck when going out as a woman, so the tint does me no good.

When driving out of my neighborhood during daylight hours, I wear a men's style coat with the hood up, then change into a woman's style coat later. When it's not that cold, I wear a loose fitting men's shirt over my outfit. When I get to a near by deserted road, I stop, remove the shirt and don my wig and earrings. Works for me, might work for others, too.

Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

Hmmm.. a rolling closet ...so to speak. One can venture out,and stay in the closet at the same time. It could work ! As some have mentioned.. You probably wouldn't get noticed to begin with, but tinting your windows may give that little extra measure of security.I am all for getting out anyway you can. Might be a confidence builder too. What have you got to lose???

From a safety point of view they are dangerous. One can never be sure if the driver has seen you. CD priorities are irrelevant in such situations. I am a Motorcyclist & shaded windscreens have nearly caused my undoing on occasions.

Maybe the trick is to live within the law and develop some tecniques to fool the neighbors till you are out of the area. How about start using hooded sweatshirts, a big hat (cowboy, baseball, etc.)? Do everything but the wig and finish later at some safe location. Adds extra time to the trip, but gives you more peace of mind. Make sure you don't make eye contact, then they will think that you are obviously ignoring them. One way to make a new "disguise" seem more normal to your neighbors would be to start wearing it with your male outfits on a regular basis so they just think you are dressing funny as a guy!

Good luck

i have got hassled twice in the 8 years i have owned my f150 once i got wrote a village ticket for it , oooh a whole 25 bucks, and the other said i really should remove it, i said i bought it this way and it was an az truck, (which it was) my other windows are darker than the front though. ( its a supercab) and my cap windows are dark to . the fun one if you want to hide in car is a full size convesion van , they way you sit in them, especailly the 95 and older chevys , you sit where your not as exposed to the window.

i ride a Harley myself..They my not always be able to see me, but they sure as heck can hear me... a mile away!:heehee:

Riding a motorcycle is always dangerous. even those without tinted windows are liable not to see you for one reason or another..talking on a cell phone, yaking with a passenger, reading, putting on make-up..etc.
