Whoops;

Thats a close one, I was online PMing and in walks the boss  wanting me to look for something on our server. Opps, When he walked into my office I minimized the screen, but it still shows in the tool bar, as he came around my desk, I did the quick right click / close deal. I don't know if he read the minimized "crossdressers" or not, but now that he left for the day. I can post.

Whew, my hearts pounding, and my feet are sweating all over my nylons, in my new boots. Im going home now, before something else happens.

Did you ever get cought looking at a CD site by the boss????

Been close. He hardly ever knocks, so I have to be fast in changing screens.

To avoid any tell tale signs I have the Taskbar properties set to "auto-hide". I won't appear until the mouse is positioned at the bottom of the screen.

I don't have a work computer. I do sometimes use the libraries computer. I think the librarian knows what sites I visit. She seems to smile a lot.

No opportunity to use a computer that's connected at work so the problem doesn't arise but even if I did I think I have enough tricks up my sleeve to avoid detection.

Unfortunately for our employees, we have have content filtering turned on. No one goes to any site that can't be explained as a business requirement.

As a side benefit, the emailed porno spam pictures get blocked too.

You be careful at work, Paula. Somethings should be done privately. Caution. ;)Susan is 100% correct. Employers can track every page you visit. In my capacity as a job steward for my union, I've had to represent more employees that I care to think about for violation of policy concerning use of work computers. And least you think emails are private, they're not. Please girls, unless you really don't care if your employer knows about you CDing activity, leave the web surfing and emailing out of the office.

Be careful using computers at work. There is software that can be used, without your knowledge, to track everything that you do. The Police Chief had me put it on a few of the computers in the PD to keep an eye on some of his people.

It sounds a little scary Paula. I don't think I'd try that again at work.

I would be happy right now if the boss caught me, Fire me please. :D I am working 70 - 80 hours a week and I don't care. They can't find a replacement for the person who quit the week before christmas which is why I am stuck working all of theses hours. I have no time at home to access this site. I would have no problem getting a new job.

Donna, thats what I do, But he was asking me to find a file for him, which brings up the tool bar.

We are a small company and as long as I perform well and the sales numbers are up, projects running smooth, then all is well. I usually do A lot of coaching and club stuff at the office, Having a three teams under my direction and being on the board of directors for our club I do spend a lot of office time on non-work related stuff. But by the same token I do a lot of work off hours, estimating projects, going out to networking diner/meetings.

BUT all the same, scary Scary, since I came out to my wife, I have been more ummm. open, not as carefull, more into CDing than ever.

Virtue; You be careful hun, trust me big brothers can be a real pain and they can spread the "news" faster than anyone, and if that happens you'll be "outed" to everyone in town.

One thing that you have to keep in mind it the fact that if you are working on a network that is run by a server program there will always be evidence of everything that you do. No matter what you do to try and hide it. The server program is set up to log everything that any computer that is connected to it does. That is how IT managers are able to find out if there has been an intruder and where a virus came from. In some companies an it person can spend a lot of time just looking at log files and in some companies there are it people that do nothing but look at log files. I am getting ready to start some consulting work for a company that will require me to read daily log files that can take as much as two hrs per day just for that. But at $35 per hr I am not going to argue about it. So keep that in mind when you do things at work. Big brother is always watching and there is nothing that you can say or do that will make a difference because it falls into the "company security" thing which gives them the right to do what ever they feel like.

My last boss was a big tomboy, and half the staff were ...well.. leaning toward homosexual so I don't think it would have matter too much. I joked with them about things all the time, especially one friend who was a gay man. I suppose it was just the atmosphere. they probably would have talked about me alot though if they had found out so I never used there computer for logging in here. I never would have heard the end of the teasing.

I work at a post production studio and in all of the suites (editing suites telecine or audio suites) there are Imacs for all of our clients. if I ever wanted to respond to an email or look at a risky website I would use one of the client computers because they spend way to much at our facility for our management to care what nasty websites they visit. I also worked the night shift so half of the suites were empty or we never had clients so I could choose which ever machine I wanted to use.

Paula, as I work from home my wife is 'THE BOSS' , not literally but you get my drift. Several times in the last couple of weeks she has unexpectedly come into my den and noticed my sudden minimization of the screen; I know she suspects something is going on, and she has started questioning me about it. I can't shut the door, that would be too obvious, I always have it open and usually see her in my peripheral vision. She's guessing that I'm secretly looking at porn, I laughed it off, but I'm honestly getting worried about getting found out.

While I am not an advocate of doing non-work things on work time, I can see the argument for folks who put in a lot of overtime.

There are solutions that would make it very difficult to know what you were doing. I have a number of servers in my home office and I have a way to securely connect from where I am to my home office. I can log in through an encrypted channel and then do all my surfing from my office systems.

While an IT department could detect that I have established this connection it would be near impossible for them to know what I am doing. Also since I always work wherever I am on a laptop that has a firewall on board and other tools and since I clear out all cache and temp files on a regular basis and don't normally expose any public shares on my system it would be tough for anyone to know unless they were standing over my shoulder and watching.

Yes big brother is out there, but there is technology that can hide things from big brother, ya just have to know how to set it up and all that takes is a little research.

Yep, nearly got caught today!

Was surfing for high heels and i had the page minimised at the bottom of my screen, he asked what i was looking at, as he could see the top of the window everytime he walked over to the printer behind me. EEEK!

I just fed him some cr*p that i was on a VW Beetle forum, which i am a member of and i was just looking at the discussion forums. (which i do anyway in break times)

Not sure if he believed me, so i have erased all traces of my history (as i do on a regular basis) and just hope he does'nt ask the IT manager to trace the pages i've been looking at on the server.

When ever i have looked at CD sites (which has been only a few times) i have allways used someone elses computer on the network.

If he confronts me i will deny all knowledge i was looking at those pages or i will say i was surfing for shoes for my GF, not a lot he can do about it, because all my work colleagues, including my boss, have internet access on the network, and look at porn most of the time. I've checked his history before! (so they are just as bad)

Dee.

Don't ever surf private stuff at work!!!
Anything you do can be easily traced, even if you are careful enough to delete entire history, and cookies, there's still logs left over on the main server - and keywords like crossdresser really stand out.

I am a programmer/tech guy. In my old job, they had Novell running a lot of the network stuff. It was always tracking where people went on the web. It was never looked at because, who cares?? (They also restricted where some of the company could go because they seldom needed unbridled access.) The only times phone, door entry card, and computer activity were ever inspected was before a person was going to be fired, or considered for firing. At that point, they are looking to see if the person works.

Just before I left, they asked me to write a program to run over night that would convert the logs to a web page that listed the people and what domains they visited (crossdressers.com is a domain) and how many items were downloaded (a webpage may have numerous images on it, so one page may equal 20-50 items.) They wanted to do that to see if everyone was staying on task.

Other places I worked had the system to watch where people went, but again they only looked at the logs if someone was in trouble. My current job is for a small company and they do not have any such system. I could do anything I wanted, but I will not do anything inappropriate or questionable. Because, someone could always be watching upstream...

As the owner of a computer software company, this is a big issue. As a FACT, many people spend alot of their time during the day doing non-work stuff. Can I have I.T. put a tracker on them? Sure. Do I? Nope. The underlying point is ALWAYS "does this person get their job done?" If the answer to that is "yes", my managers and I don't care if they are running a web business from work.

It's at the point where they are not meeting goals that we have to ask why. In rare circumstances, we have put tracers on people who are repeatedly missing goals and failing to respond to direct coaching. Not surprisingly, in a large percentage of those cases, huge amounts of time are being wasted online, leading ultimately to dismissal.

Bottom line tho, I can assure you, if the boss wants, the boss will know EVERYTHING you do... web surfing, email, the works. Watch out!

I was almost caught out at work once (http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3926) but since coming out to my manager, and Dept head, I have no worries on that score anymore. I'm not supposed to go onto forum or chat sites at work, due to working for the Government, they are fussy about their network security for some reason, but I have been known to check my PMs from time to time.

The safest thing is to do as the other girls have suggested, and keep it out of the office. Unless you are subconsciously trying to out yourself?
