I don't know if any of you girls have see this story or not, but it's from the British newspaper "The Mail On Sunday".
It's an interesting article about a transsexual woman who has just decided to tell the British Army that they are going to live full time as a woman and have sexual reassignment surgery ASAP. They are about to resign their position as a Captain. They're are a decorated officer who also served in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq.
I found this a pretty interesting read and I just thought I'd share with everyone. Let me know what you think.
Here's the link - click on the title below.
Ian Hamilton is a Captain in the Paras - This week he'll tell the British Army he is having a sex change. (http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=445876&in_page_id=1770&in_a_source=&ico=Homepage&icl=TabModule&icc=picbox&ct=5)

Rachel, thank you so much for sharing that. There is one sentence that rings so true in that article,
"I wanted how I look on the outside to match how I feel on the inside. I have to do this, because if I didn’t, you’d be coming to my funeral".
I feel like that everyday too. I have few good days. I have bad days and better days. I'm with Jan all the way.

I plan on doing the very same in a couple of weeks. I reqiure a full medical every two years and I'm fully expecting the Military Dr. to ask me why my body is fully shaved or why am I wearing panties. Should be interesting.

I do wish Jan all the luck in the world.
However, one passage in the article gave me pause:
The hormones have had other effects. ‘I can’t parallel park any more,’ she says with a laugh. ‘Honestly. I can’t even map-read. I’m too ditzy as a woman.’
It plays into the stereotype of the "bad woman driver." Tell that to Danica Patrick! The hormones have had no effect whatever on my driving or cognitive abilities.

A good read. Nicely written, not terribly sensational and the writer seemed to focus on real personal issues. They sure resonate with me, and no doubt most of us on this board.

Might be different individually, how it messes with one's brain chemistry. Also temporary perhaps, taking some time to adjust. Too giddy to pay attention? :idontknow: Can't imagine myself forgetting how to parallel park unless in a condition where it'd be unsafe to even stand up :)

I read pretty much the same article in The Sun at work last night. It's not a paper I would buy, but it was there and it was something to have a look at. I then made the mistake what was said about Jan in what they call "The Sun Says" and it wasn't nice. In fact it upset me and made me feel angry inside. :Angry3:

I have to admit there were a couple of phases that I was not very happy about at all like "The hormones have had other effects. ‘I can’t parallel park any more,’ she says with a laugh. ‘Honestly. I can’t even map-read. I’m too ditzy as a woman."
I'm not very happy with this lame comment at all as it's misogynistic but I'm thinking it was said for "effect" but to my mind this is not the actions of genuine TS woman. But, by and large, I thought the article in a general sense, was Ok and so I thought I would post it and let you girls make your own decisions about it. I'm glad you thought it was worthy of a read.
Gathering information is good ... we don't have to agree with everything we read. So if you didn't like this article , that's totally ok with me. I'm just saying "hey here it is ....what do you make of it?"
Hugs to you all
Rachel
