Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows of any kind of help with funds to help one alone in our endeaver? I maybe one that will need to look into this if my Insureance company ever makes up its mind,(hate all the redtape BS they put you thru). Also does anyone know the proper bathroom arrangements most companies make? Mine has said I can use the Ladies room by the offices but none of the others. I think this bites big time but I don't want to make to many waves to start with.
Any help on these issues would be wonderful & I thank you now for your help. I hope you all have a wonderful Easter.
:hugs:  ,

Hi:
You have to start with the assumption that you have to pay the full shot for this yourself. I'm almost $1,400 into the hormones now and have another $400 worth on this Saturday. Then anything you get from insurance or other means is bonus.
Like here in California, Medi-Cal will pay for everything. The catch is that you have to find a doctor who will prescribe hormones and take Medi-Cal rates. I have been told by someone who has tried that number in the LA area is exactly zero. As a cash customer I pay $120.00 for the consult every 4 months. At that rate I can see someone immediately. The hormones are on top of that, generally running $240 every 4 months.
Canadian medicare will also pay for everything up there. But you have to really, really convince a team of shrinks you will really, really kill yourself if you don't get it. And the Canadian doctors really need great convincing.
So really, I hate to say this, but its a cash world out there if you want to transition. At least if you want it in the near reasonable future.
As for bathrooms at work, the law may sam one thing but there are a small minority of women out there who go ballistic if they think a "man" of any kind, even an ex-man is using their bathroom. Thus, to prevent fireworks you may have to accept that one specific ladies bathroom is assigned for your use and the use of the majority of women who are tolerant. And the intolerant can still use all the rest in the building.
This may not follow the spirit of the law but it is generally the sort of bargain that you will have to make to transition on the job. Remember that while the HR department at your work will generally follow the rules for your state as well as they can, your transition is something they would really not have to be bothered with. Cut whatever deal you can.
Pessimistic? Probably but realistic.
