That pink used to be a boys colour? And blue was for girls?
Aparantly, back in the day, pink was the colour they chose for boys' nurseries, as it's a pastel version of red, which is considered to be a more masculine colour. Blue, with its conotations of the virgin Mary, was considered to be a girls' colour. Somewhere along the line they got mixed up.

I have a passion for pink... My bedroom is pink and cream... I believe it was changed by the Americans...

I have to admit I'm not keen on blue... I find it quite a cold colour.

Haha yeah I've heard that one before. Find it really amusing that that happened. I'll still always favor blue though. Pink=gross. Purple (NOT lavender) is the bestest though!

I read something simililar--at least as far as PINK was concerned. It was considered a "male" color---Pink shirts were not uncommon in the late 19th century and the 1900's----(confirmed in old catalogues too)

Pink for girls and blue for boys began in the late teens and 1920's as a sales gimmic for children's clothing by some of the big department stores.---and eventually became the established norm.

Somewhere along the line they got mixed up.

The way I heard it, there was actually debate over the issue around the turn of the century (19th to 20th.) People wrote editorials and discussed it a lot. It sounds to me like the debate people had in response to the Dear Abby column over whether toilet tissue should be placed over or under on the spool. Anyway, what seems to have settled it in people's minds was the sale of two famous paintings, "Pinkie" and "Blue Boy."

Hey Lex! Long time no see.

Crazy. I suppose it's kind of like somewhere along the line Ashley became a girls name..

Where'd you hear this from?

Huh! *notes this down in book of random facts*

I hear Kelly used to be a male name as well. Somewhere along the line it became very, very feminine.
