Just saw this on the Today Show....
• Municipal Judge David Hostetler of Coshocton, Ohio, ......... He received worldwide attention in 2001 when he ordered two men to dress in women's clothing and walk down Main Street as a sentence for throwing beer bottles at a car and taunting a woman. The Ohio Legislature has enacted a law that allows judges to choose alternative punishments if they are related to the crime.
I've been to Coshocton.... Maybe I need to visit there more often!!

And do these two miscreants need a good flogging to punish them for their insulting behavior towards Women?---then I'm just the T-Girl to give it to them, as well as other punishments which I'm too much of a Lady to talk about in this forum...but then on the other hand they might enjoy it too much for the "punishment" to be effective--lol

Hmm yes I think professional counselling and comunity service + the threat of imprisonment if the behaviour is repeated would be more effective.
Also I too might be more than happy to be 'ordered' to dress and to be 'punished' (I'm sure I've been a very, very naughty girl :heehee: ) but lets not forget that the crime is still serious.

I saw the same report. They even showed the two all dressed up. Both look pretty good. I think it is good for those offenses that are minor and it does make the person think twice before pulling the same or similar stunt again. This is not something new. There are many references in the past where for minor offenses, the person had to wear a sign saying what the person did. A early form of this was the stocks, where a person was put on public display for a minor offense. Community service is a another form of this kind of punishment, but this punishment makes it more personnel.

I could use a life sentence there. I would, of course, act like I hated the idea but inside I would be full of glee.
Think about it people. This is nothing to be gleeful about. The judge was imposing what he saw as a humiliation on them, and reinforcing public perceptions that a man in women's clothing is an object of ridicule.
I would far rather have seen a fine and a spell of community service for them.

Well I think I can play both the male criminal and the female victum... Throw the bottle... Rather highish, yell a couple obsenities, quick change, in the car... Bottle crashes... Change back... Lots of wittnesses.. Wait for the police...
Haul me off to jail, courthouse... Have my own clothes.... Change and walk main street... What could be easier... East Central Ohio could be the new mecca for forced femininization... If it already isn't! Hehe

I think a better punishment would be to have them strip naked, & put them in solitary confinement in prison, first walking them past the cells of the general population. One night of that, with the information if they do it again there'll no solitary confinement the next time.

Y'all gotta remember that THESE are the kinda guys who think abusing and ridiculing women is a sign of "Manliness"----and for some reason being percieved as "A MAN" is very important to them---enough so to step out of the bounds of common decency and make total a-holes out of themselves.
That fact alone tells us that they are "insecure" in their identity---(likely out of ignorance rather than real identity problems) What could be the "WORST" (in their mind) for punishment for someone like that?---Just what the judge gave them.
Praded about in the guise of the most "unmanly" of creatures. Something they have strived for years to banish and FEARED they might be taken for----GAYS!-----HORRORS!
This is not meant to be an insult to gay or us CD folks. But using the ignorance and bigoted and erronious ideas about manliness, women gays and cds AGAINST those holding and acting on those opinions.

I personnally feel that the judge was, in a different manner, riduculing the female dress. What profit has come from this ? The two guys have something to bost about, once the hangover from their parade ( no doubt they laughed their way through it) has passed.
Their hangover probably happened when they went to a bar, still dressed (?) immediatedly after their enforced walk.

While good arguments can be made on both sides of this story bear in mind that the two who had the sentence imposed on them are relative unknowns to us but maybe not to the judge. If they are anything like some of the redneck a**holes that I work with the humiliation of being forced to be seen publicly as one of those who they would ridicule/attack for even a short while may well be a more effective punishment than a jail sentence where they might be regarded as "hero's" of sorts. A nice big photo on the front page of the local paper with the details of why they are there would be even better. Sort of like the "manly" man that I issued a pink welders "crazy hat" to wear under his helmet for a job at the plant - his crying about it was a source of humor for weeks after the fact. But then again - he toned his act down a lot after that too!

But the clown lobby would be outraged..... hehe Ohhh and if it were full of crossdressing clowns...... never mind!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is with this sort of thing is what's next if judges in these little out of the way locales can order downright strange punishments that you'd think the civilized world had left behind like 150 years ago!I guess if it was me being sentenced by that judge I'd go to my punishment willingly. But I would want to see my choice of clothes and a wig and makeup would be nice.Ha Ha.No,what those 2 did was a bit nasty but I think that awhile in jail would've taken care of things.

Right on, Ruth! While I think that the men should have been punished and that the crime was serious, the punishment was, in effect, a travesty (pun intended). The judge was definitely reinforcing the public perception that a man in women's clothing is an object of ridicule. In fact, wasn't that precisely his point. I suppose that he was also applying the concept of "walking a mile in her shoes" to gain a sense of empathy for a woman, but that is really far-fetched. I think that a far better punishment would have been for the judge to have the men do community service wearing an easy-to-read placard that states, "We are doing time for our crime of assaulting a woman with a beer bottle."

ummm, I thought that the judge was being "imaginative" in imposing this sentence on these men. Now we all know that we wouldn't overly mind this punishment imposed on us...unless the clothes were "horribly out of fashion and not colour co ordinated", but for non CD guys this would be quite the humble experience....and I am sure they will get bagged by their friends for ever over it.
Now i could take offence and say by default he's humiliating me..but he's not. The difference is that I CHOOSE to wear these clothes and by that fact, him forcing someone into a skirt has no real bearing on me. Society has its values, and I think I fall somewhere outside whats deemed normal....ummmmm, so what, this is me and really I don't think I'm harming anyone.....
So am I offended by this punishment...nahhh....I'm more offended by some of the behaviour of some CDs I think

I think there are issues deeper than mere 'trans' ridicule. What kind of Judge thinks that this will create a positive attitude to women from such misogynists? This merely re-inforces an attitude that women are second class to such people... I would have suspended the judge to be honest.

I've always been a firm believer in embaressment as a factor of justice. in this case I don't think the judge was trying to highlight crossdressing as a factor, but using it as the guys had been hostile to a woman, therefore he just turned the tables on them, and put them in to the same position.
I'm a firm believer in paying for your crimes, and if I could bring back the stocks I would. you don't need to throw rotten vegatables or fruit, it that embaressment factor that works, ie being labelled as a thief, that hurts.
At this very point in time the british justice system is trialling a new program of the criminal facing there victims to show how there crime has affected the life of the victim, at present it down to both parties to decide to meet, but i'm sure in time, the criminals might not get a choice. I was listerning to a radio program on this just the other day, and apparently the criminals normally end up being more upset by there own actions this way. As one said on the program being thrown in prison has no victim for them, it there rob, steal, what ever, go to jail, do there time and it is all forgotten about. Having to sit and listern to how you action affected others is another matter, it they can't distance themselves from there action, and many do have regrets afterwards.
I'm sure thats all this judge was doing here, making them face there own action, over using crossdressing as a punishment. Ie he placed them in the position the woman was in, not to embrass them, but to make them feel as vunrable as the woman had been. ie he used there own crime on them.

I don't think this is the case, see my post above! However we must all agree that yes there is an embaressment factor here in the first place anyway. ie if you best friend (who knew nothing about you crossdressing) caught you, you would be embaressed.
Our very own actions make us objects of ridicule, because what we do is it not acceptable. it's no different from women voting (a 100 years ago) and wearing short mini skirts (50 years ago!) our time will come. however when that is, is down to us. All the time crossdressing is hidden away, this will be the general impression, It only because the womans movement grew and grew it became law and women got the vote!, The internet is the new media and peoples awareness of the volume of crossdressers and knowledge of crossdressing is growing!
no one has even considered that the reason judge thought of this form of punishment, maybe due to the fact that he himself maybe a crossdresser!
With the figures at 4 in 10, having tried some form of crossdressing (maybe more), is it just as possble?

This man is not fit to serve on the bench. For whatever reason, usually beyond our choice we have become crossdressers. This miserable excuse for a jurist has chosen to humilate two individuals by making them participate in crossdressing. He implies by this punishment that our behavior is shameful and not worthy of respect. It is attitudes like this that keep so many of us hidden in the closet afraid of the humiliation of being out.
I am not ashamed to be a crossdresser, I do not believe that crossdressing is a behavior that should be ridiculed by the justice system. The actions of this judge are an insult to each and every one of us.
