I am right handed and am most comfortable with a shoulder strap on my left shoulder.

BTW, a handbag is just that--held in the hand. A shoulder bag has a strap for the shoulder.

Jodi,

In UK a 'handbag' is any lady's bag, hand or shoulder, what you probably call a 'purse'. Here, a 'purse' is the small thing that holds money and credit cards, and usually sits inside the handbag.

On an aside, who prefers to have handbags that go over the shoulder on a short strap so they sit under the armpit, have a long strap and sit on the hip, have semi-circular handles that hook over the forearm (like my mother used to do!), or are small and have one or two handles and are held in the hand? What a choice these days.

My fanny pack has a strap for the waist, I use it as a shoulder strap most of the time, it tucks under the upper arm nicely, right shoulder.

Left shoulder, as I'm right handed ( crossing the body to the right hip ).

Right shoulder, even though I'm right handed. It seem logical to carry it on the opposite shoulder from your normal "handedness" , making it easier to use your dominate hand. I've tried that but it just feels uncomfortable.
The few times I've had to push my wife's wheel chair I find that by extending the strap to it's full length and carrying it "cross shoulder" It doesn't fall off my shoulder as often. Only problem when doing that is the strap crosses between my boobs and makes them more obvious. Oh darn, bad luck ,:heehee:

Angie - See here for a picture of a fanny/fannie pack.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_pack

It is also called a belt pack, hip pack or bum bag.

I have one from Wilson Leather (made of leather, of course), and it was my first "purse".

Basically, it has one or more zippered pockets to carry a variety of things, and has a strap (expandable) with buckle, where the strap can be extended and then clipped around the waist.

Originally, the pouches/pockets were intended to be at your back, at waist level (i.e., "fanny" pack).

The strap can be shortened and clipped, and then carried like a purse, but it was intended to be used by men and women alike, so it does not have the standard "stigma" that a purse would have.

Right handed. I find I can access the bag with my right hand better if it is on my left shoulder, however I am going to watch gg's do this now that you brought it up. I have always found the purse thing a bit of a challenge but sort of cool.

Right Handed - Left Shoulder - whether it's girl mode or boy mode. Carry many different "bags" in girl mode, only one bag in boy mode.

I carry my handbag in either hand, my shoulder bag is on my right shoulder.

For our British friends, a fanny pack is what you call a bum bag. On the British version of "The Office" a character is recommending a bum bag, "They call them fanny packs, because "fanny" means your bum, not your midge."

I'm right-handed and prefer to carry a shoulder bag on the right shoulder. However, when walking on the sidewalk, I have taught myself to learn to carry my bag on the shoulder that is AWAY from the street.

Somebody, I think it was one of The Local Constabulary, once gave a seminar that I attended. He cautioned Females to carry the bag on the shoulder that would make it a lot more difficult for a purse snatcher to grab the bag and run with it. That would of course be on the far side, away from the street.

In some places in Europe they grab purses from motorcycles going by on The Street. We don't have much of a problem like that, but it's the same idea.

Peace and Love, Joanie

No this side of the pond a Wallet is what a Man keeps his Money an Credit cards in.
A Lady would have a purse in her Handbag be it hand held or shoulder straped

Left shoulder, right handed. One reason for this is that when going to my car in a parking lot at night, I have my keys out in my right hand - ready to unlock the car or press the "emergency" button. If you are going out dressed as a woman, you need to think about personal security as a woman.

The only time I carry a purse/handbag is when I need to carry
a pair of stillettos somehere. Other than that, I dont think about
it much.
