Susan Stanton, formerly city manager in Largo, FL, has presented herself in pictures and a video at the following website. She looks refined and very attractive, moreso than she did as a man.

I think that anyone who is transitioning, anyone who might be thinking about it, fantasizing about it, might want to look at the video and read this article over again. As usual, class journalism from The SPT, and that's an amazing thing when we consider the climate of repression and bigotry that often rears it's ugly head.

Susan is demonstrating how you live your life with class and dignity, even under the most straining circumstances! Looking at the pictures, listening to her words, I think she will be a valuable, contributing, member of The LGBT and Women's Communities.

I don't think she's going to go back to being a City Manager, not in the near future, maybe not ever! Much like Christine Jorgenson, I think she will now become an icon for our cause. It may not be fair to her, to force these issues, but I think the die has been cast. Books, Seminars, Public appearances, Congressional Testimony, all will be a big part of her life. Because I believe her to be absolutely genuine, I think she sought none of this and would have preferred to transition in a private manner.

And so, we come to all of us. Most of us, hiding in the shadows, are going to have to rethink a lot of what we are about. This article is forcing me to reconsider how I would handle my life, if I were in the same situation. Remember ladies, if you get "outed" at work, among your social groups, to members of your family, you will be facing a lot of the same things. Every time you don't speak up, every time you don't vote to stop all The Bigotry, every time you "hide", or leave a Sista' out there "hanging in the wind", without your support, you help to perpetuate all of this garbage!

Kudo's to Susan for being brave and naive enough to make some mistakes and hopefully get us all thinking and maybe doing something! You want to see how much stupidity is out there, start reading some of the replies that are listed below the article. By the way, did you contact your Senator, your Congressperson, about that Gender Discrimination Bill.....better think about it!

Peace and Love, Joanie

She had her first official pictures taken. Now doesn't she look beautiful... and happy?

Note the positive comments outweigh the negative - the latter complaining about the story being on the front page on Mother's Day.

Wow!!! I've seen the before pictures and there's quite a difference there! She looks so happy there and she obviously has good taste in clothing and hair style, for her.

On the plaque, he wrote the words he had hoped someone else would write: To Steve Stanton: The World's Greatest City Manager.

I don't think she's going to go back to being a City Manager, not in the near future, maybe not ever! Much like Christine Jorgenson, I think she will now become an icon for our cause.

14 years as City Manager, I would believe the best role of icon would be reclaiming her job, or taking one requiring the same, or higher, qualifications. I have no doubt this is very skilled work.

I think we've got enough Christine Jorgensons already - and why should anyone with Stanton's resume be out on the talk show circuit amusing chattering heads and bored homemakers?

My take, anyway.

This story is so wonderful, I am crying right now. If we all had this courage, the world would be much better off knowing us.

Well Calliope, I gotta agree with you on that one, after all the dust settles, she should go back to doing the work that she is good at, it would show others that she's a real person, not some freak in a side show.

Susan Stanton's coming out after being fired as Largo, FL City Manager. The great news is she is a finalist for City Manager of Sarasota, FL.

I had a feeling that the firing of Stanton was politically motivated... see this entry (http://www.pamshouseblend.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1722) at Pam's House Blend.
