Things don't always go as you planned so I thought I'd share this.
Yesterday evening, I went out to Burlington Coat Factory to do a little shopping hoping to find a new belt, but instead I found two nice skirts after browsing around for a while. I walked into the ladies dressing room and, as soon as I tried them on, loved how they looked so I decided to buy them. When I went up to the cashier, there were a few people in line so I acted natural and waited casually, but I was getting somewhat uncomfortable because the couple behind me were getting a little close to my personal space, but I just stayed calm and walked up when it was my turn to pay. I gave the skirts to the cashier, but noticed that one of them was missing part of the price tag. I had a feeling that she would have to do a price check so knew I had to speak and tell her that the two skirts were the same (just different colors), so she wouldn't have to. Well, somehow my femme voice was not cooperating because I kept having to clear my throat and when I mentioned about the tag I obviously outed myself. I was getting a little bit nervous, but the cashier paused for a second, obliged, and just scanned the one with the correct price tag twice. When she indicated my total, I charged it on my card, and she gave me my receipt. As I walked away, I thought I heard the couple behind me chuckle for a second, but I just kept walking and didn't look back.
On my way home, my car was low on fuel so I stopped at the nearest gas station to fill it up.
I pulled up to the pump, got out, inserted my credit card, and proceeded to fill it. Once the pump stopped, I returned the nozzle and waited for my receipt to print. When I noticed that nothing came out, I looked up to the display screen and the message said to get the receipt at the cashier. Great!
For a minute, I debated whether I should just leave without my receipt, but I always keep my receipts for my records so I decided I have to go in and get it. The place didn't look too busy so I grabbed my purse and walked in the store.
Fortunately, there was only one customer at the cashier and when she was done, I walked up, cleared my throat again, and told the cashier that I need my receipt. She obliged, printed it up, and then handed it to me.
As I turned around, there were a few customers lined behind me, but I just looked forward, walked out, got in my car, and drove home.
It was good to be out again, but for a while, I had a tiny bout with the jitters.
My last couple of outings have been a breeze, but this time I had a little bit of adversity there, but it was good experience. It helped build my confidence knowing that I could stay calm and handle the unexpected while in femme.
Whenever I go out now, I know that I must expect the unexpected.
