I often joke about how alcohol has preserved me, but today I had a nice surprise.

A real girl I socialise with texted me to say it was her birthday, she has reached the grand old age of 19.

I replied saying I'm 41, she replied saying, "No way".

Isn't the power of makeup wonderful?

I think I look like a bloke in a dress most of the time, but I just love it when these girls say I'm beautiful, I know I'm not but it still touches me.

Do any of you get similar feed back?

The age reduction achievable with good makeup is amazing I feel.

The last weekend, I found a picture of dad when he was 60. Since I will be 60 in October, I took the picture into the bathroom and held it to the mirror, so I could compair it with my face. I use Olay products on my face every morning and evening. Regenerative, mortarizer, and winkle remover. I have to admit, my face does look a lot younger than my fathers face when he was my age. His picture showed a lot more winkles and looked a lot more rougher. So I guess the Olay products I am using on my face has made me look a lot younger compaired to my fathers face. LOL

Hi Rachael,
From seeing your avatar you look nothing like a bloke in a dress. I think you look very much like a lady so keep it up and you will only get better. I know what you mean about the compliments, they make us feel very good.

Hi Rachel,

You are a doll. I know what you mean. Its is amazing how makeup can make you look younger.
I figured you'd be in your late 20's or early 30's so you had me fooled.
I was at my support group meeting this past weekend and mentioned that I was going to my 20 year HS reunion.
After the meeting, a few members came up to me and said that they were amazed at how young and pretty I looked. They thought I was in my mid 20's. I was flattered and thanked them.

A good face care regime is essential Joann, I know you use one.

Yes Linda, the complements really do give a confidence boost. It's even better when the girls share makeup with you! :D
had one apply her lip gloss to me a few weeks ago, I returned the favor later with one I had bought.

The power of this stuff is amazing Joann, it can take 20 years of you easily, of course the clothes help too.
I dress like the girls that have adopted me, much younger than I would normally, it seems to work.

Neat story. I agree about the makeup. I apparently look younger than my 38 years. On the other hand, makeup also takes the edge off. My face is, well, a bit rugged in terms of bone structure (like a pronounced brow and fat nose). But makeup can soften these features by deemphasizing the flaws and highlighting the positive traits. Also, a wig that hides my brow is essential, though not always possible...

I think you look great, BTW :)

I'm a recent convert but I love playing around with makeup and seeing what it can do. I look years younger than my 50+ with my makeup and lovely wig!

You definitely look much younger, you have the same age advantage as me though.

I'm blessed with my genetic features which are quite androgynous, once the laser has finally rid me of beard I might have a chance out there.:D

Thanks for the compliment, a girl likes those! :D

Babies are beautiful (otherwise the parents would just abandon them!).

The purpose of makeup is to enhance ones face to appear beautiful.

The similarities can mean that an adult face where makeup is beautifully applied can look younger.

I love makeup too.

I do not see why everyone doesn't wear it. Not just women and crossdressers, but men too.

Of course, moisturising is good for your skin.

I meant in everyday life.

How many men wear makeup to their local pub?

Everyday on the news, everyday on the stage, everyday on the telly, they all do it.

Men in pubs, unless there is a reduction in testosterone limits, I doubt it.

To be honest though, things are moving that way, within twenty years makeup for men will be the norm.

Political correctness goes both ways.

:happy:Rachel, I agree with your thoughts about makeup. When properly dressed, a good makeup and a smile I am consistently guessed from twenty-five to thirty years younger than my actual age.
Clothing, posture, a confident air and good makeup are our best freiends,

You absolutely do NOT look like a "bloke in a dress." There is something quite natural in your looks -- and I'd think that make-up only enhances what nature has given!!!

I don't have the natural look you project, so make-up is not only necessary for me, but much more time-consuming than with most, I'd think.

When my wife and I did our "wedding ceremony" in Vegas last week, we BOTH were absolutely awed by what a talented make-up artist could do!!! After he did my make-up, my wife was actually jealous and wished we had planned on having the guy do her make-up, too -- and trust me, my wife is VERY good at doing her make-up, so that was HIGH PRAISE!!! (Later we found out that this particular make-up artist has been doing men and women "on the Vegas strip" for almost two decades, including many show girls in top-rated shows, such as Jubilee!!!)

(Hopefully, with an assist from make-up I don't look mid-fifty-something -- I certainly don't feel fifty-something!)

At 43, I feel confident about me. Makeup helps, but by looking at your Avitar I would say you feel good about you too and it shows.

Rock on Girl!

The makeup thing is quite true BUT men also age better than women on the whole, havent you noticed? That helps tons. Check the general facial appearance (no makeup) of a 40 year old woman and a 40 year old man (assuming he hasnt worked in the sun every day of his life!)

I agree makeup really makes you look younger. I was out Sat nite and met this GG. we were talking about kids and she asked how old mine were. I told her and she said no way. I said I had a daughter 38 years old and she said i didn't even look that old. A very nice compliment considering I'm pushing 60. That really made me feel good. ;)))

Darling, I never go out in public without makeup and a proper wig!

Based on the pictures I've seen you post, Rachel, you've got a natural beauty.

I would scare me in pure "male in a dress" mode. I find that makeup shaves a good 10 years from my true facial age. Without the wig and makeup, think the saying that goes, "a face only a mother could love" would apply to me.

Really, Trust me.

99% of you would not recognize me in public when I'm fully in business male mode. Although, KarenMichelle's personality is very much incorporated...

I don't know about knocking years off my appearance, but makeup certainly knocks the male out of my appearance. And that's the real goal for me afterall. I have always just hated looking male. What a curse!

They sure are Carol Anne, makeup done well makes a huge difference, the eyes alone transform a face.

Even male contours can be disguised quite well.

Just yesterday I got a "You look pale today, what happened ?" from a saleswoman (We didn't talk before).

Thanks Marla, I'm hoping for those sorts of comments once I finish the Laser treatment to remove my beard. I'm not keen on heavy makeup, never have been.

I think the daytime look will be so much easier to achieve without foundation.

Thanks Jennifer, moisturiser is very important, I use it on my face at least once daily and have for some time now. It also forms the base for good foundation so is an essential really.

Thanks for the complement, this girl likes those! ;)

Makeup is supposed to be used to enhance what you have or in other situations disguise what you have. Getting the look right is a case of balancing the two. Always favor natural appearance over concealment though, heavy makeup is obvious.

I fought for a long time to get the look I wanted, I am still evolving it too. I aim to look as natural as possible, in fact I don't want the makeup to be obvious at all. I look forward to not having to use any foundation daytime.

I hope you get those pictures, I'd really love to see them Barbara. Some of those artists are very skilled, I have learned loads from the girls in the MAC store that I go to.

Mid fifties, no way, we are all just 21. :D

Thanks Sandy, yes I feel good out as Rachael, I really come alive in this persona actually. I'm glad you feel the same way, it's all about feeling good in your own skin.

To a degree I'd agree with you Dianna, but skin care is the real secret here, men need to moisturise too to keep the skin healthy.

Many women and men don't.

Don't knock yourself Karen, we are all works in progress, you should see some of my earlier attempts that were quite frankly atrocious.

Makeup is Magic, it's all smoke and mirrors! ;)

I don't know about knocking years off my appearance, but makeup certainly knocks the male out of my appearance. And that's the real goal for me afterall. I have always just hated looking male. What a curse!

Again Danielle, it's all smoke and mirrors, makeup gives a mask that we can hide behind, this also gives us the confidence to be out if we wish to.

To all of you, I refer to myself as a bloke in a dress for a reason, it's the attitude I have when I go out. It might sound strange but I'm not pretending to be anything I'm not. This allows me to just act natural, I just don't care if I pass or not, I'm just me, a bloke in a skirt or dress.

? what did you work out from my avatar? cause it's actually apropo of nothing other than being a nice, feminine image I drew awhile back.

but the thing is, I love to hear peoples various interpretations of my artwork (to the point that I generally withhold my own interpretations of my artwork until someone tells me what they think it is or means), so if you can tell me what you worked out from it I would get a kick out of that.
