For anyone here who cosplays, do you guys cosplay as female characters as often as you can, or are you too embarressed?

Me, I've never done it, but I'm thinking about it for a convention next year.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is cosplaying?

Google "cosplay" for details. In a nutshell, it's costuming, typically as anime/manga characters, though other characters are played too.

Serena,

I've never done it either, but have been intrigued with it for awhile. It's on the list of things I'd like to do someday. Oh, and I'd definitely be a female character.

Someone explain. This is new to me. Not heard of it before. How do you play? Is it for real, online, or what?

[I know what Anime is]

Helpful bit: Manga is those Japanese chartoon characters like Pokemon and such (only not the actual Pokemon just the human ones) and Anime the animated versions of that style of cartooning. Now you know. Or I might have got it all wrong. But I still don't know what the game thingy is.

Cosplay's not a game, it's short for costume-play, what the Japanese often do for fun, where they dress up as different characters. Mostly anime or manga, but similar things (I.E. Harry Potter) are also done. The costumes are usually made the the cosplayer themselves too, and mostly just worn at conventions.

There are conventions, particularly Anime conventions all across the US. My son is in a club that runs conventions in the Northern Virginia area.

There's a lot of video/computer game playing and costumes are worn by many. I haven't a clue what else goes on there, but it's usually a 3 day convention at a hotel.

Goggle 'cosplay' and 'convention' or 'anime' and 'convention' if you're really interested.

Here's a link to the Cosplay segment of a local (to me) Anime convention:

http://www.animeusa.org/cosplay.html

As you can see, these people take Cosplay seriously.

While I've never done an Anime convention - yet - I've been to Science Fiction and Fantasy type conventions in the past. Typically they are social events with programming during the day and various events in the evening and night. Perusing the Animeusa site shows the structure to be similar.

I used to dress in costumes; I was a Red Indian, spaceman and cowboy. But I grew out of it when I was around 12. Sounds childish to me.

I wonder if trekkies at old Star Trek conventions started this whole thing:rolleyes:. Though I've been to a few anime conventions (actually, just 1 here in Denver 3 different times) I've never actually done it. If I were though, I'm sure I'd go as Sakura-chan! At least until a different anime sucks me in:D.
