Bad News is that I won't be able to march in the pride parade this Sunday . Something came up and I must take care of it. It's a family matter, nothing serious.

Good news is that one of the books recommended for summer reading by my college is counseling LGBT clients. The name of the book is Handbook of Counseling and Pyschotherapy with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Clients. To say that I was surprised is an understatement, considering that this is a Christian liberal arts college. It echoes some of the changes that I believe are happening with the religious and church hierarchies.

Really glad to hear that education is finally reaching out more, seems it has been tied up for the last few decades.

Thats where the author leaves the realm of clinical psyhcology and starts seriosly overestimating the importance of spirituality in the gay/lesbian/CD patients life and treatment. Spiritualiy in this case means only christian theology.

Up until that point, except for a few digs at homosexuality (mosty opinion on how it can be prevented by training during early puburty) it is a pretty good reference. The 2000 printing leaves out any mention of transgender people regardless of the books title. I haven't read the 2006 reprint.

I just love these authors and "mental health professionals" that claim that something like homosexuality and crossdressing can be "cured". I sincerely doubt they have ever talked to one of us without that preconcieved notion in thier heads from the beginning.

The book is in it's second edition. I haven't read the initial book so this is new to me.

Gennee,

As you get into this book, give us an abstract of the more interesting chapters as they relate to this forum's emphasis.

Even if it could be cured, the authors are making another big assumption, and that is that the client is seeking help because his identity is the problem, rather than seeking help because society's evaluation is the problem. It is ignorance and fear that needs to be 'cured'.

Have any of you ladies had an attempt made made by social services in the early 60s on a person to find a cure for Cross Dressing? I am positive they tried it on me. I do remember some.
