View Full Version : My SO Challenged me.......

She challenged me when she told me she did not believe I could wear my heels all day long. She threw down the gauntlet.

I have all kinds of high heels. My favorites have 4" or 5" heels. I was thrilled with the challenge because it also mean't I would be enfemme all day.

I put on my 4" heels and spent the whole day and evening in them along with makeup, blouse and skirt:D.

I would be a liar if I told you that they did not start hurting me after some time, but the pain did not matter. My pleasure was stronger than the pain.

My SO was also amazed. She says she could not do it.

So I won:thumbsup:

It was all in good fun.

Wow Rita, what a challenge, and what a wife you've got. I wish mine was open minded enough to do that!

Longest I've gone is 6 hours awake (mostly on my feet), and 5 hours in bed asleep, last time my wife was away for the night, and that was in 5" strappy sandals (the only heels I own). My calf muscles felt like they'd run a marathon, and the stiffness took 5 days to disappear completely. They are great shoes to look at in the mirror, but maybe 4" would be better for longer periods. Did you have any after effects?

You lucky girl you!! Lol. I only get chalenged to clean out the garage or clean up the dog poop.. Hehe.

Funny though we were getting ready to go out to dinner the other night and she had dressed up so she pulls out a brand new pair of heels out of her closet (which really surprised me) and put them on.. She made it to the end of the hallway before she kicked them off and went back for a pair of flats.. Lol. Too bad they are too small for me!! Hehe

Last week I wore my 3" black heels for about 8 hours out enfemme.. Lot of walking and my feet did hurt somewhat.. The next day I wore flatter shoes mainly because they went better with my outfiit than anything..

:heehee: Nice podiatric fortitude, there. Now try it 5 days a week, say on 45 weeks per year for 2 or 3 years.

Bunnions, callouses, mis- or re-shaped toes, etc.

You may have won the challenge & today's battle, but them 4" heels will eventually beat your feet down.

Rita,
You are so lucky! I think she wanted to see if you were women enough. Good for you, I bet it was fun for the both of you.Although given a choice in dress shoes I would chose heels anyday.

Well, you proved your point Rita. I have to say, however, I'm with the GG's on this one. Having callousses, bunions, curved toes and whatever other problems and pain you endure wearing heels constantly isn't worth being "feminine" to me. Give me flats or sandals any day.

I see female patients daily with grossly mishapen toes and feet. All of them report wearing heels on a constant basis when younger. This is just plain not good for your feet.

Wear heels for fun, but try not to overdo it. Take 'em off when they start to hurt. Carry a pair of flats in your bag if you need to but DON'T torture your feet. They have to last your whole life.

Interesting, I couldn't do it either. It seems that the bigger you are, like me, the harder it is on your feet to wear heels. Generally, slender or petite women experience less discomfort from wearing higher heels.

I had a petite woman friend who wore serious heels every day at work, she worked in the office of the company I worked for. She said that she was so used to wearing heels all her life that she experienced discomfort in the calves of her legs when she wore flats, as the muscles were shortened from the constant wearing of heels.

High heels are fun, but they can be dangerous if you overdo it. Like many other physical activities, wearing heels properly takes training & practice. The link below has many good suggestions, including stretching exercises (which should be performed regularly for best results).

How to wear high heels succesfully (http://internetdump.com/users/jenny/wearing.htm)

Warning: this is an old page & some of the subsidiary links don't work, or take you to porn sites, but the main page is fine.

Some exercises from the link.

1. Heel raises

If there is one important exercise for strengthening the calves, feet, and ankles, it's this one. Standing in bare feet, raise yourself up on tip toe as high as you can, and hold for 3 seconds. You can hollow your back slightly as you do this, moving into approximately your posture that you adopted wearing heels as explained in the standing section. Then, relax and repeat 3 times. Slowly build up over days and weeks to 10 repetitions and holding the raised position for 10 seconds. Even 10 at 10 seconds only takes 2 minutes or so and it should not waste any of your time. You can do it while brushing your teeth or hair for example.

2. Tip toe walking

This is simply an extension of the previous exercise, walking high on tiptoe starting for 3 minutes a day and building up to 10. Start with the heel raises to build up the strength required for this. Just do it around to the house - its no big deal - walk to the bathroom on tip toe - fetch the post - make the breakfast - all on tip toe. If your calves feel a bit strained or you are tending to drop - don't overdo it. Just drop right down, relax for a bit and then do some heel raises, safe in the knowledge that these will improve your endurance for the next attempt.

When I put on some pretty clothes in bare feet, I tend to go on tip toe anyway - it feels natural to me - just makes me feel nicer. There's a psychological side to this as well - you will find how easily and naturally you can move around on your toes- even without your shoes on. Also, you are making up for some of those ballet lessons you never had !

3.Calf stretches

If you want to wear 5" or even 6" heels and nothing else, then go ahead; ignore these exercises. After a year or so, you will probably develop a permanent arch, shortened calf, and it will be painful to wear flats. That suits some people - its up to you. However, I like to maintain my body and play tennis and golf (hmmm - I got chucked off the first green the last time I wore stilettos - and yet there was a notice which said you must wear spikes on the course :-) ! ). This exercise is more a prevention than aid to walking.

Standing in bare feet, about 3ft( 900mm) from the back of a chair, step forward towards the chair with your left foot and grasp the chair with both hands. Lean forward further, bending at your elbows, and at your left knee while your right leg remains stretched out behind you with its sole and heel still firmly on the floor. As you bend forward, you should aim to make the angle that your right foot makes with your right leg less than 90 degrees and hence stretch your right calf muscle. If you cannot feel your calf muscles stretching, then adjust the positions of your feet until this happens. You might have to move your right foot a little farther back. Hold the stretched position for a few seconds and then repeat. Build up to about ten repetitions. Repeat the exercise with your feet reversed thus exercising your left calf muscle. This exercise can be done without the chair if you rest both palms on the knee which is outstretched in front of you as you squat down. It stretches the calf and hamstrings, helping to combat the contraction that can occur if you wear high heels a lot. You will often see athletes performing this one before a race.

4. Balancing practice

Take a broomstick and hold it out in front of you vertically, balancing it on the palm of your hand. Are you skillful enough to move your hand from side to side as required to keep the broomstick balanced in the vertical position ? This is an illustration of what your ankles must achieve in high spikes with all your body weight coming down on them. They must be not only strong enough, but also quick enough. There have been many instances of broken ankles with inexperienced legs and also in situations where the wearer has been caught off balance. If you are going to fall, try to fall back on your bottom and cushion it with a hand on either side as you go down. You will also see the importance of having spikes in good condition with the heel dead vertical and firmly attached.

Standing on both legs in bare feet, raise one ankle, bending at the knee so it comes into a position in front of the opposite thigh, where you grasp it with both hands. Now try to raise yourself on tip toe and balance on your remaining foot, holding the position. Repeat with the other side. Practice until you are proficient and can maintain these positions with ease.

You can also do this wearing heels. Try raising the foot into the position described and also lifting it up behind you where you grasp round the stiletto with just the one hand this time. You can then pull up on the spike raising that leg higher and leaning forward as you outstretch your other arm to maintain balance. There are also a variety of exercises you can do just by lifting one foot off the floor slightly and maintaining balance on the other stiletto.

Sounds a lot like one of my coaching sessions, Robin. We spend a lot of time building up calves, feet and ankles and working on balance and core stability. I thought it was making me a more efficient roadrunner but it was actually preparing me for life in heels!

My sentiments exactually... That's more stretching than I do before an ice hockey game.. Lol. Always figured that all that skating strengthened my ankles so I could walk bettern in heels.. Wonder if NHL stars Daniel Briere or Sydney Crosby ever dress up enfemme? I know Jaromir Jagr did for some kind of beauty pagent in the Checz republic.. Lol

Did you actually win anything? Like: a new pair of 5''? ;o))
In spite of all good advice given here: I 'm still waiting for the first prospective randomized placebo controlled double-blinded study on foot-problems caused by highheels  Yo, would be difficult to do: double blind? Not telling you're wearing heels or flats ;o)) OK. Common sense says: we're not made to wear anything higher than 0. On the other hand: we're not designed to grow older than say 35. Try to run away from a sabretooth tiger in heels...well at least you look sexy when you're running...
Congrats!

My frist pair of heels was purchased through Lane Bryant catolog. Thats when they had a lot of nice high heels in large sizes. I must have been born to wear them because I never had any trouble wearing them. The only time I nearly broke my ankle and my head was when my daughter showed up unexpectedly and I tried to get down the stairs to the ceiler quickly. After I came back upstairs she was inside and asked why was I limping. I told her it was just a cramp in my leg. She never new how bad i was hurting.

In general I do know the potential harm of wearing high heels. I know of many GGs that have had to have surgery.

Still heels are a passion for me and like the smoker who knows better I have to have the 4" and 5"

Hopefully I won't have to see a podiatrist.

I am thinking of a High Heel Marathon for my next event.:D

Same with my wife. She has alot of flats, several pairs of 1.5-2 inch heels and I don't think she owns anything taller! I guess I win the battle of the high heels in this family!

My wife and I both love wearing heels, but do not always wear them as they just do not work well on the paintball field or at renaissance faires. :)

We both have some gorgeous boots with heels (I bought her a pair of thigh high red patent leather stilettos last year), but we only wear the high heels when we go out somewhere special, like an S&M function or the like.

There's no chance I'd wear heels for that long! I don't think I owned any heels until I met my boyfriend who encouraged me to buy some. I know they look great but I can only manage an hour or two in them.

At our halloween party my feet were hurting from wearing heels so I swapped shoes with my boyfriend (we're a similar size - very handy  !). After a few drinks I challenged him to a race around the block - it was a close call and I only won because he took a wrong turn (he he). His feet were cut to shreds though even put him off wearing heels for a while which is quite a feet!

He'll always be able to outlast me in heels - maybe the feeling of pleasure outweighs the pain for you CDs?
