For those of you who are currently taking spiro, how much are you taking daily and how long did it take to find an effective amount for you? If prescribed by your Dr or Endo, how much did you start with? I know it's different for different people, I'm just curious about the average amount taken. I'm taking 100mg daily, split in half, taken with a morning meal and an evening meal. I started with 50mg per day and took that for a month before upping the dose to 75mg for about 2 weeks, then 100mg. I've never felt the need to increase beyond 100mg, that amount seems to work fine for me.
How about you?

My endo has me on 100 mg per day. I generally try to leave the doseage up to him. I have some input but I have to rely on his expertise.

I started at 100MG about 2 years ago. Then got bumped to 200 then 300 and finaly 400 about 10 mons ago. About the same time started Estrace at 1MG, then, 2MG, 4MG and currently 6MG. My doc does frequent blood work.

Wow, Tori-e, you must have had one tough, stubborn testosterone level to need 400mg per day. I don't think I could handle that much, my blood pressure would fall through the floor, not to mention how much I already pee now.

Stephenie, if you have an Endo to go to, that's a good thing. His blood tests will tell him what he needs to know to properly adjust the dosages. That would be nice

I wouldn't dream of doing this without the guidance of a competent endocrinologist. To fool around with this stuff without one is dangerous. Also, spiro, with a script, is relatively cheap.

Stephenie, I certainly can't argue the point that HRT can be a risky business, the side effects of too much spiro are well documented.

200 mg per day here, the same as it has been since I received my initial prescription.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I find it interesting what different people need to take to accomplish the task of lowering the T level.

200mg a day, split in half and 4mg Estr0fem, also split.

My intial trescription as for 100mg and 2mg and this was increased to my present dosage a month ago.

I am only on 100 mg a day, and I've never needed more. Within two months my T level went from a normal male level's T to 27, which is clearly in the range of a genetic girl's T level. At my last appointment with my endocrinologist, I was hoping he would up the dosage, but since my T level is where it needs to be to allow estrogen to have maximum effect, there was no need to up the dosage.

So why try and go higher than necessary for anything? Remember, taking higher dosages of anti-androgens and estrogens than your body needs will not hasten feminization. My ideal estradiol level is 8 mg a day, and my doctor was even going to allow me to go up to 12, but I chose to stay at this dosage because mentally, emotionally, and definitely physically, I've never ever never ever :) felt better in my life!

Blessings,
Lori Anne
