Here in Canada we enjoy the benefits of free medical care, or socialized medical care. And I think it to be a fundamental human right to receive SRS free of charge.
I would have seriously considered SRS if I would have realized it to be a viable option 20 years ago. Unfortunately at that time the world was still a different place, without Internet information to name an example. And now I find it's too late. But it certainly still has my attention...as I would love to live as a woman 24/7 and throw away all my male cloths.
I am happy for those in Brazil and I salute the people who have made this possible...
:love:Dita.

I agree 100% with Dita. I wish I had the guts to do this years ago, but the world was different then - there wasn't the information around (I thought I was a freak or something.) Now I feel it's too late as well. But hey, I'm still having fun and making the most of what's left.....

I saw this and thought how great. But I also wondered how, as in these countries Catholocism and the macho mindset are so prevalent. No matter, I just admire the progressive nature of it, and wonder why the USA is reluctant to be progressive. I wonder, do they follow the same protocol to ensure that it is truly the appropriate path for those that seek it? I'm sure they do.

....So I got to the airport - went up to the counter and said:
Suzy : " Can I buy a return ticket please? "
Airline Check-in Clerk: : " Where to Miss ? "
Suzy: "Well back to here of course !"
PS:Sorry I couldn't resist it

Perhaps part of the answer lies in that America was founded in large part by Puritains - the folks who thought Catholics and Episcopalians were too leinient. You remember their descendants - the ones who passed Prohibition. . . . :heehee:
I don't know a lot about Brazil, but I work with a Mormon who did his mission there. He has regaled us at lunch with stories of startling cultural diversity. Real Indians and Brazillians with varied European immigrant ancestors mean skin color is every possible combination. As for politics of the people, there's profiteering timber companies, preservationists, Mother Teresa like missions tending the abject poor, neighborhoods of middle-class and the wealthy. The giant Jesus statute on the hill overlooks the bawdy lewdness of Mardi-gras every spring. Very much a cultural melange that should not be stereotyped.
And from the article it sounds like you may have to be a near suicidal TS to qualify for the state funded SRS. That's life in the big city though, there's always a bouncer at the door.
hugs,
'lissa
