View Full Version : My Doctors Visit and Estrogen

I was having my normal yearly physical and testing done, in male drab, not enfemme. My Doctor never really questioned why I was shaved in certain parts of my body, and I did not tell him anything about my crossdressing, but he mentioned to me that my testing showed my testosterone levels were too low, and wanted me to see a specialist thinking I may have some other problems he wanted to check out. So here I am thinking, wait, I want more estrogen, not testosterone. How can I tell him this, but instead, I went to the specialist, best to be safe then sorry. The Specialist Doctor checked me over and he said it was a little low but I was fine, but my levels may be low because I was overweight, which most of us are, and overweight males tend to produce more estrogen than testosterone. Wow, natural estrogen just because I am overweight?

Well, I am not a Doctor, don’t know if anyone out there can say if this is true or not. I am very medical illiterate. But, I was just thinking, if I went into my Office wearing my short skirt, a low cut top, with heels, hose, a wig, and all my make-up, and someone looked at me strange, I could just say, “ OK, I know I look a little different, but my Doctor say’s its due to my weight problem”.

This is a true story, thought you girls might get a laugh out of this one.

Wow,that makes sense. This is probably why as we get older we are less inclined to worry about what others think about our cd'ing as our estrogen levels will not allow our minds to deny ourselves any longer.

racquel you hit the nail on the head. our estrogen levels will not allow our minds to deny ourselves any longer.

On the serious side, do not hide things from your doctor. Crossdressing is not a health issue and he does not need to know about that side of you. Other issues are important, if you want to change your hormone level, if you want SRS, if you smoke, talk to your doctor. He can not help you if he does not have the necessary information.

My brain is filled with little tid-bits of info...here's one:

Both men and women produce testosterone and estrogen (not uncommon info). There is one component of estrogen that is stored in fat cells. If you have been overweight for a long period of time, that estrogen can build up. That is why women who were obese long before menopaus have an easier time with going through it. There is a storage of extra estrogen.

My doctor happens to be a female about 40 years old. When I had to choose a new doctor a few years ago I decided she would be much better for who I am than the male doctors in the past. On the first visit I told her everything and it was the best thing I ever did. I have her full support which is a real blessing. It's much easier to discuss hormones, or anything else.

Can you ask her if she knows like minded doctors in Michigan? Lucky girl!

My urologist put me on Avodart to control an enlarged prostate. He said one of the side effects was possibly enlarged breasts. Oh darn, how awful, I snickered to myself, hoping for the best. Unfortunately, that side effect did not show up. (boo hoo)

I'm a physician myself, and I agree with you about not needing anymore testosterone.

However, I would allow your physician to do the work-up as to why your testosterone level is low.

Be aware that a number of physicians are now into "rejuvenation therapy", which can keep you feeling younger longer.
I was offered supplemental testosterone too, and I just politely said "no".
When pressed for a reason, I just told her (my physician) that I was finally happy not being lead around by my penis. She laughed and never brought it up again.

The reason the work-up is important is simply to rule out a more serious cause of the lower levels of testosterone (such as pituitary axis dysfunction).
The work up is simple, and involves testing of blood and serum.

Hmmm.... but what's my (medical) excuse for feeling so much more feminine as I get older? I've never been the least bit overweight in 45 years, yet as the years pass I feel more & more like my cells are turning from "blue" to "pink"!! :heehee:

Silly girl...

Veronica

P.S.- Seriously though, I do wonder if there is anything to the idea of estrogen replacing testosterone as we age. It would certainly explain a lot of our feelings!!

Here's another angle. When I went to the doctor, I had shaved myself a couple weeks earlier, so I had a little hair growth, but not much. He noticed it, but didn't realize what I had done. He said, "You've lost some body hair, errr, ummm, oh. Then he said, "You've got some breast growth here. What are you taking"? I told him I had been taking Saw Palmetto for years, for prostate health. He said that Saw Palmetto has an "estrogenlike effect", and that's how it limits prostate enlargement. So I'm thinking that may help raise estrogen levels in men. I also notice that Saw Palmetto is one of the ingredients in some of those breast enlargement supplements.

Hi, Melinda!

Saw Palmetto... Did you start taking it for breast growth? Can you estimate how much yor boobies have grown, since you started taking it, and how long it took?

Is it really good for prostate health? Very legitimate excuse!
Can you tell me how much you take?

Signed,
Drooling for breasts, but slow growth...

Tagamet is also good for reducing testosterone. I found this out from my dermatologist. I take tagament and Saw Palmetto. I think it is a pretty safe combination.
