View Full Version : I've had the Operation

I've been in hospital for the operation, did anyone miss me? Put your hands up! Hmmmm, can't see any from here, I must make a real impression on you gals.
Just in case you thought I'd gone off my head and transitioned on a whim, I'm glad to tell you, the operation was on my left foot. My big toes seem to have had an aversion to one another for many years, and have been trying to grow away from each other, as you can see in this "before" picture (couldn't resist dressing up a bit to add a little spice to the picture).
To be continued......

If you're squeamish, DON'T READ ON......Here's a description of the operation (and I read most of it from trawling around the 'net looking for details of what was going to happen).
OK, Don't say I didn't warn you!
They cut open my skin to reveal the bones in my first two toes, Sawed off the bunnion with the surgical equivalent of a jig-saw, sliced the bones on each side of my big toe (one of them is the metatarsal), swiveled them round to straighten up the toe, trimmed the bone to twist it round to its correct position, then screwed them together with self tapping screws, and sewed it all back together again. I also seem to have a long pin sticking down the length of my second toe to hold it straighter than it was when it had been curled over the third toe, having been pushed over by my big toe. Here's the picture of the end of phase one, I've got to go through it all again in 6 months when they do the other foot!
Net result is I can't get my left stocking on, so tights/pantyhose are off limits too! Boooohoooo!!! But all is not lost, I can get my right one on (see picture). I can't get dressed too easily (can't put any weight on my left foot) and it takes a long time, so CDing will be put "on-hold" for a month or two (big AAAAHHHHHHH for sympathy!), can't risk getting caught by wife coming home unexpectedly because it would take too long to strip and re-dress. Also, I'm on crutches for all that time, so my tight skirts would be dangerous too. The good news is that I will have more time to read everything you lovely ladies write in this forum while my wife is at work. Every cloud has a silver lining eh!
I've prattled on enough, here's the pic.

Miss you of course we missed you darling….just remind us who did you say you are???
When I read that you had the operation I thought we would need to call you Miss. But then it turns out to be your toe.
I was glad to see you took off your stocking first before they started to cut your toe. It would be silly spoiling a perfectly good stocking.
I do hope you get well very soon.

Many thanks for all you good wishes girls, I really do appreciate it. Things have gone well for the first two days since. I've nowhere near as much pain as I was expecting, not even one paracetamol needed so far, and I'm learning to get about on crutches quite well. Well enough to raid the lingerie drawer and get dressed for that photo-opportunity!!!
I know it's going to be a long job (3 months the doc says, but we'll see), but I want it to heal properly before I put any weight on it, or I won't be able to wear heels again, and that won't do, will it! On this subject, the doc told me he doesn't see many men with this problem, usually women who wear high heels with pointed toes. Everyone I've told that story to have said "so he found your guilty secret did he?" It gave me a little thrill to know that they were right, but none of them knew, only me! In case you worry about foot damage, mine is genetic; I don't wear heels often, they are only 3 1/2" high and strappy sandals. I still want my 5" high patent pumps, but I must wait a year before I can try them on. Patience is required....and no, I'm not lending my present ones to anyone in the meantime, sorry girls.
I'll keep you posted on progress.

Here's to a rapid uneventful recovery, and hoping that the operation of the other foots goes well too. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_4_13.gif
Instead of crutches, I saw a guy a few weeks ago at the patent office that had a foot operation. He was running around on a little scooter that he kneeled on with one leg and pushed himself around with the good leg.

tonib you can't blame a girl for trying ..............
ToniB

Donna,
Thanks for your good wishes. The scooter sounds a brilliant idea, could you still wear a skirt, and a high heel on the good foot?
Wendy,
If Donna's idea works, I'll still need the heels, but you're right, can't blame you for trying!

Trust you to provide the (NW UK) humour Sandra, but you missed out the "Thud" of the crutches hitting the ground in between! Thud...Ouch...Click...Thud...Ouch...Click...Thud.. etc!
BTW, It's always a pleasure to get a comment from you, but you always seem to be here whenever I am. Is this what you do all day, every day? I've got an excuse now, what's yours?

Hi Toni.
Well with such a great bunch of girls where else would you want to hang out? But the real reason is I log on when I get up and have a look around, then do some housework, then have a cup of tea and have an other look around.
I have also found it to be a big help after my wife died last April and I am all alone with nothing but housework and you girls to keep me occupied. Mind you as the weather gets warmer I will spend more time on the Promenade at Lytham St. Annes.

I like that new word Sarah "mixamatoesies", it just about sums up my condition. Perhaps we could extend it to all of us here, and say we were suffering from mixamasexies!
Yeah, get out on the prom Sandra, with your high heels, stockinged legs, hair blowing about, t-shirt over your 42DDs, best make-up, nail varnish and skirt a-flapping in the breeze. Summer's on the way! Wish I could join you!

Donna, it's really sweet of you to go to the trouble of finding out all this information for me, and I really do appreciate it. I never cease to be amazed by the attitude and actions of the gals in the 2 months I've been here, it's incredible.
I'm glad to say that I've adjusted well to the crutches, and can do most of what I used to do before, it just takes a lot longer. The doc was insisting on no weight bearing on the foot for up to 3 months, but the way it's going, I hope to throw the crutches away in 6 weeks, and I certainly hope so. It'll be a lot longer before I'm running and playing badminton again, and I'm p*ss*d off with all those who tell me I should give up these "young people's sports" now that I'm over 60. B*ll*cks to them, I'll do what I enjoy until I'm physically incapable of doing them! And that includes CDing, but none of them know about that anyway!
All the best to you Donna, and thanks again.

Hi Angel, thanks for your good wishes. Things are going well at present, my pain threshold has not been breached .....yet!! I'm just frustrated in not being able to do a lot of things I used to, like dressing!
Fancy you remembering the collar too! I've got one of my own, it's 3" wide buckles on snugly and has two D rings. I've got a chain and padlock as well, but if we're both subs, we'll have to attach one end of it to each collar when we go out on the town en femme! Now there's a thought. Wonder if anyone has tried that before!
All the best,
ToniB

Childs play! I've recently gone through my second open heart surgery - this one a double bypass, the first in 1996 being a triple.
Ever had your chest cracked open like a chicken and your heart removed and flopped on your chest? 6 hours under anesthesia and a heart/lung machine, which the last time resulted in my losing most of my short term memory. I have a scar from te top of my thorax to just over my belly-button because of a previous hernia from the last that had to be repaired. Now I have 2 legs cut open to get veins for the grafts, and since they had to fish under my left breast last time to feed a vein to my heart they did the right one this time! I suppose one good (?) thing about that is my left boobie looks like I had an implant, and now the right one will match!
Another benefit was quite unexpected, but thanks to a wonderful nurse may open some doors. One night I was up late not being able to sleep and decided to play with a thing they give you to exercise your lungs by sucking deep on a tube until you lift a few plastic balls (STOP IT!) to the top of a tube. My nurse heard the noise and came into my room and sat to chat a while after giving me a back rub. I was complaining about how my breasts hurt still, and that where I was cut for the veins in my groin really bothered me both times and made wearing briefs very uncomfortable. She kind of hemmed and hawed and finally said that depending on how secure I was, she could offer a few suggestions to help. When I asked what she meant by being secure, she giggled and said "how would you feel about wearing girly clothes? Could you handle that?" I was sorely temped to tell her about my lifetime of CDing but didn't, and said I didn't think I needed to prove anything to anyone - which is my mantra.
So her answer to the tender breasts was to suggest I wear a sports bra for a few months, or until the pain went away - however long that was. For the groin problem, she hesitated a second and then suggested I get a few pairs of "Hanes for Her" briefs, which would "support you better and take pressure off your ... uh ... testicles." I then wished I could marry this gal, but offered that I didn't think for one second my wife would believe that she suggested I wear a bra and panties. Damned if she didn't say she would recommend it to my wife in a private talk, and she did later that morning when my wife came to visit me! So the next day my wife appeared during visiting hours when I happened to be walking the halls for exercise with my favorite nurse holding my arm. She was carrying a bag and a big smile. Greeting my nurse, she opened the bag, showed the contents to my nurse (who smiled), and then showed me what was inside - 3 sports bras from Hanes, and 6 pairs of white Hanes for Her panties with a small pink bow at the waist! My nurse was smiling to beat the band and joking with my wife before turning to me and saying "should I tell her my suggestion about getting you some knee hi stockings to take the pressure off your leg incisions?" Blushing bright pink, I couldn't think of anything to say since she had not mentioned this before. She turned to my giggling wife and said she was serious - the stockings would help! Then she turned to me and laughingly said they would also look cute with my panties and bra!
Unfortunately, I was by then in agony from laughing and the pressure on my chest wound, so my wife led me back to my room while my nurse attended to other patients.
So now I am home recuperating, 2 weeks after surgery, and I'm wearing one of "my" bras, and a pair of "my" panties. My wife has now completely accepted the fact they are helping me, after seeing the pain I was in after the last surgery. She even laughingly suggested I might want to keep wearing at least the panties:)
Oh well.....

Cathe,
You reminded me that no matter how badly off you think you are, there are always many others who are worse off than you (except for the poor b*****d at the bottom of the heap!). Well at least you had a happy ending, and you're still alive too!
