For those of you who are going overseas like myself for your surgery, you can get a passport marked "Female" for your gender, here's how...

When you apply, attach a statement detailing your surgery plans and ask for a one year temporary passport marked "female", you will also need to attach a surgery confirmation letter from your doctor and a copy of your name change order, and the State Department will give you one. After your surgery you'll be able to convert it into a 10 year passport without anymore charge, just send in your letter showing you had the surgery to keep it female. I got mine 2 months after I applied, and I can't tell you how wonderful it feels to see that "F" for gender, there are no words.

Does that mean that I can't get an "M" on my passport unless I have surgery (if you know)?

BTW, congrats on your "F"! :D

Thanks, Wendy - I don't have time to read the whole thing right now, but based on this opening statement it sounds like I won't be able to get my passport changed.

To get your name and sex changed on a valid passport, you will need a court-ordered name change and a notarized letter from your surgeon showing you have had sex reassignment surgery.

I didn't realise that you could do that in the States. Karen honey, I'm so pleased that you were able to get one and that things are still moving forward for you. :hugs::hugs:

Now why can't we do something like that here in the UK as that is a really good idea.
