Hello, Ms. GypsyKaren,
My name is Kathrynn, and i am Transgendered, M/F. After reading the posts i think there is need for a name change or a clarification of terms.
Transsexual, The term means change sex as in turning the penis inside out and making a vagina. In order to become a transsexual one must go through countless psych tests and years of hormone replacement therapy. This is the path in which i am considering going.
After 50 plus years of being transgendered. and going through HRP, it is time to take it to the next level.
This is why i think we need to change this particular forum to Transgendered Talk or information.
I really think that their are a lot of misinformed people whom visit this forum and the mother forum everyday who need to be informed about whom they really are. Crossdressers are men who like to wear womens clothing. Transgendered people are those whom were born women or men, but received the wrong anatomy. Transsexuals are those whom have had SRS.

Thankyou for listening and for consideration
Kathrynn

Kathrynn,

I assume you didn't really mean your post for Karen alone, or you would have sent her a PM, so I'm putting in my :2c:. You don't have to transition to be transsexual. And not all transgendered people feel that their anatomy is incorrect either. I respect your definitions, but they're not universal.

Hi Kathrynn

First of all, I'd like to welcome you to our little corner of the forum, I'm sure you'll find it to be full of help and support, we're always here for each other.

I hate definitions and labels, but I think you're really splitting hairs with this. I think everyone can find their own meaning in each term, but as far as I know being a transsexual doesn't mean changing one's sex, but being born the wrong one. Not all transsexuals have GRS, in fact most don't, and you can live a very happy life at whatever level you choose. I can quote you the diagnosis on my referral letter from my p-doc: "Gender Identity Disorder: Transsexual 3 times over", and I'm still 2 months away from my surgery.

A transsexual is who you are inside, regardless of surgeries, hormones, or anything else for that matter. Non-Op, Pre-Op, Post-Op, we're all the same inside, it's who we are, and I for one am very comfortable with being called one. Once again, welcome!

On a recent visit to a therapist, he said that the terms in this field are in flux and what was called something may no longer be soon. He said that the labels are really a bit of a mess right now. Transexual is his default and he diagnosed me as being one but I am only on HRT.
Overall, I think that the divisions here are fine. Who really is going to get upset with the difference anyway?

BTW, I had read that transexual meant that one wanted/needed to have GRS too. However, that doesn't mean that only the lucky ones who can have it done are TS.
