View Full Version : Just had to laugh...

A couple of weeks ago my wife found out my dressing. Not exactly something she wanted to know and she's told me to stop. Sounds like familiar territory right? I've been shaving my legs for a couple of years, first because of cycling and then because my calves have developed some condition that shaving seems to alleviate. She hates that, but seems to be resigned to it. I've also plucked my eyebrows for a year or so which she's noticed and bugged me about on occasion. Net result, she's not particularly understanding of this whole CD stuff.

Anyway, today was her "President's Club" banquet for Avon (yes, she's a sales rep, and a good one :)) and as she was getting ready she called me into the bedroom. I wander in and she asks me to pluck her eyebrows  I just had to laugh because she's never plucked them before and has always thought I was weird for doing it. So, I got her brows cleaned up a bit and off she went, the happy (but pained) little camper.

The whole time I was working on her brows she was flinching and complaining, saying that she'd rather go through labour again :O I kept wanted to tell her that beauty hurts, but she'd probably have hit me :)

Anyway, on the Avon thing, as I said she's a great rep. And occasionally as I'm looking through her catalogs she asks me if there's anything I want -- meaning, of course, the guy stuff. I don't have the guts to tell her what I really want ;)

So, sorry 'bout the long post, but I just thought some of you would get a kick out that tale. I know I've been [-]snickering[/-] giggling about it most of the night.

LOL Kass, I had to chuckle because my wife always asks me if I want to order anything from the girly section of the Avon catalog. I usually find something worthwhile in there! :heehee:

An Avon rep for a wife? What a perfect opportunity!
You know, I just have to wonder what prompted her to want her eyebrows shaped at this point in time, interesting, isn't it? It wouldn't have anything to do with your well shaped brows, would it?:heehee: Just the fact that she asked you to do it for her is really cool!
If I'd have been in the same position, I certainly would have wanted to make that "beauty hurts" remark, I know without a doubt that my ex would have smacked me for it, but I never could resist making remarks like that!:D

Cool!

My wife thins her brows too much. So, one day when looking for makeup at a prescriptives counter, the SA did her foundation, eyelids and lips. She asked me how it looked, and I asked the SA to do her brows too. Now she's hooked on coloring in her brows.

But she still thins them too much.

I have been plucking since I was a teenager and you know what, a little bit of color goes a long way.
I use the color only when I go out in drab with my wife, she makes sure of that.:heehee:

I love the Avon catalogs. Always something in there for me. Love the story. Sometimes, our taking care of ourselves rubs off on our spouses whether they want to admit it or not.

I share your giggle, and a little hope that she will see the beauty and opportunity in accepting all of you as her partner !

Hey, great story. Actually, I have found that eyebrws are about the last thing people notice, unless they are extreme. Twice, I have thinned my brows much more than I had planned. Self waxing. I don't recommend it unless you have lots of practice. One time, I said I had dropped some muffler cement on my brow, and pulled out the hair. Partly true, but most of the hair removal was prior to the muffler cement. Nobdy noticed.
The second time, I had thinned one side a bit more than the other, so, thinned the other ... etc, etc. The next morning when I looked in the mirror, I couldn't believe it! I was afraid to go in to work I went in, got supplies, and headed to a meeting. No one said a thing. I stopped at WalMart, bought some eyebrow pencil and added a bit of colour.
I met my GF for lunch. She can tell if I wore eyeliner two days ago. Nothing!
It drives me crazy to see the eyebrows that some people, mostly guys, leave untouched! Good for you helping out your wife. And if you get a bit carried away, don't worry, no one will notice! except cd's! w.

Well, it was fun sharing the story with y'all. I asked my wife about it today and she said that I was plucking mine already, so why not. And one of her friends has bugged her about getting them done. We'll see on Monday if her friend notices :)

As for Avon, yes there's a lot of stuff that I would love to have. My wife had a pair of white mule slipper-type shoes returned that turned out to fit me. To bad she'll have to send them back. I can't just tell her that I want them :(

Why can't you tell her? If she already knows....

Amber I almost asked the same question, then read her post again. Wife has only known a very short time and told Kassandra to stop. Doesn't sound like a good time to be asking for the shoes. Trust me not a good time to ask. And I hate to think were they may end up if she does.

I did one better, no offense. I WAS an Avon rep! I sold Avon for a short while and my business was blooming until Avon reneged on me! My sales records showed how well I was doing, yet Avon declined to accept my request to use my limited credit which they offered me from the start. They wouldn't apologize, but yet asked me if I would reconsider being a seller. What nerve! In a nutshell, I told them where to put it, and I've never bought any more from them.

Yep, that's a good one - and maybe there's promise in her attitude turning . . .

My wife reps a women's clothing line (a plus), but the line s sort of pricey (a minus), and we both buy some of the clothing for ourselves (a minus). Somehw, my checkbook always takes a hit! :D

Thanks everyone for your comments and stories, especially dancinginthedark for your PM. As I mentioned, my wife doesn't want me to dress and I take that as okay. I may still drop hints every now and then ;)

Take care everyone,
Kassandra

Kassandra,

This will have to be something you'll have to decide for yourself after weighing the pros and cons -- and I am not taking this lightly as I know how the reults could turn out. That said, IMO, she knows and she, or so it appears, seems to think it is somehing you can just stop doing. You'd have to do a lot of prep work if you decide to go this route, but maybe you should start getting hold of a couple of books we've discussed on here -- Like My Husband Wears My Clothes by Peggy Rudd -- read them through completely, then tell her you'd like to read something seriously. The book might be a springboard into the start of some understanding that this IS who and what you are -- not something that can just be turned off (or on) at will!!!

It breaks my heart when I hear of people compromising their lives and who/what they really are!!! I did it in my first arriage -- which is why, when I got the chance to marry again -- this time to the most wonderful GG in the world -- I knew it had to come out before we said our vows!!!

Give it some thought!!! You know we are here for you to work trough things or sound things out!!!

Sheri

PS: I would sugget the Peggy Rudd title I mentioned over many of the other books we have discussed on here from time-to-time -- a few of those other authors are writing more on differing tg areas -- like incorporating transitioning into marriage, which is NOT what you want her to read!!!

Tell her you are having trouble deciding which shade of lipstick would suit you best - pink or red :D

My wife is very accepting but it is amusing when either I volunteer to help her with something female, or she actually asks for help. When I started dressing she was amazed at what I knew about women's clothing. I told her "I've been studying this stuff for 50 years!"

My wife accepts Michelle , even pinches her make up from time to time !
I,ll never forget the first time out shopping when I saw a lipgloss I wanted . I was so nervous asking her for advice . I just thought , well just go for it ask ......I muttered the words out , having to repeat myself at least twice.
Gosh - I was shaking !
The result....?
Well , we brought eyeshadow , and eyeliner to go with it ...lol
