Found this interesting read in a trade magazine which is also available online. In short, big companies that hire in every state generally set their employment and HR rules to the standard of the most restictive state so they stay out of expensive litigation over hiring, firing and promotional practices.
Because some states not only allow but protect transgendered rights, big business' HR departments are busy writing rules so they don't get in trouble in those states. Thus, spreading tolerance of the transgendered by corporate fiat . . .
Now being more an anti-corporate rabble rouser Norma Rae Erin Brockovich kind of gal, I am shocked to near speechlessness by this turn of events.
Something for social theorists to think about. And among those thinking is Judge J. Robertson of the US 6th Circuit Ct. of Appeals, who has cleared a legal path to allow a litigant to make an end run on a 1984 case denying transgender protections under Title VII. The case to watch is Schroer v Billington.
