I wonder if anyone has ever applied for a sales position at Victorias' Secrete or similar store. If I were looking for a position, being a cross dresser I can't think of a more exciting job I'd rather have. Even dressed in drab, to me it would be worth it if they paid me nothing. Would they hire a Male? Would sex discrimination laws apply? Wouldn't they want a male sales clerk to help out those shy bashful men who come in? Just wondering. Trudyanne

Trudyanne, It might be a little late to get in now (for holiday help), but in October '05, my son started working (part time) for VS. There is one other guy in the store and about 20 other girls that work there (most are part time). It pays a little more than minimum wage. They use him mostly for stock and the setting up (and tear down) of floor displays. He does do some sales work in their bath/body/fragrance area. He says that the girls work with lingerie, so that they can assist with fitting (and most girls feel more comfortable with another girl). If you have any specific questions about VS, I'll ask him. Best wishes with your job search.

He he he he I was a bad boy oh I mean girl oh I mean boy.
I got a stock job in 1987 for K-Mart. Guess what I was going ladies? He he yep lingerie, dresses and all and the ladies had fun teasing me not because they knew I loved lingerie but because I would hold things up and ask where does this go?
It was very hard to focus on my job instead of what was in my hands.

And I remember a close relative working in a lingerie store. I'd get part time work there on some Sundays during busy season. I'd be mostly up in the stockroom checking out the merchandise. Oh what a great time that was.

Is that a banana in you pocket or are you just enjoying your new job?

I'd say that for what they typically pay SA's at the mall, you couldn't afford to buy your fem clothing to work there let alone pay your rent and food.... Sounds great in theory... but in reality it's just a dream.... I'll keep my very good paying day job thanks!!! hahaha

Yeah, Karren's absolutely right. Just try to imagine how you would get by on minimum wage. Then remember that for many, many, women, that's all that's available. Then tell me how much you want to become a woman. Sometimes reality sucks.

Interesting, I was thinking of working in a bar, either as a waitress or behind the bar serving drinks.
VS sounds nice though. will think about giving it a try. :)

I have had three job offers while crossdressed. In each case I revealed that I was such. Since I declined, I'm not sure how serious they were but they were flattering!
Hugs to those of you who haven't had any from me in a long time!

I WOULD LOVE TO WORK AT VS PARTTIME. BUT HAVE TO KEEP MY DAY JOB.HElp to pay clothing bills.
In the fall of 2002, I was shopping in drab at NY & Co, and I was asked by the store manager if I wanted to work for her. She said that she had been try to get a man in the store for a long time and had no appropriate applicants. I told her I'd give it a try. Everyone in the store knew I was a cd. It didn't matter. I started out as Christmas help, and ended up being asked to stay on perminent. The job lasted over 2 years.
My thoughts on my job.
-I started at $6.50/hour. Not a whole lot to support onesself
-The schedules for shifts can be all over the clock, especially around the holidays. When you are scheduled, you had better be there and ready to work. No excuses.
-It can be very satisfying work, but is very tiring work. After a twelve hour shift on my feet, my legs would be throbbing. Know how to keep smiling when your whole body aches.
-Expect to be called in often when not scheduled, because of calloffs and no shows. Also expect to stay overtime on a shift because of the same reasons.
Expect to be dumped on by rotten, nasty customers.
-The discount was nice--30% all the time and 4 times a year it was upped to 45%.
-My manager was great to work for. The other girls in the store accepted me well. I left when my manager had to resign due to child care issues. The new manager hated men, especially me. I didn't need the job and I didn't need her grief.
I then worked for The Limited for 6 months. The Limited was even more cutthroat than NY & Co. The Limited kept track of each SA's sales for a shift, and you had better make that goal. As at NY & Co, The Limited set goals for the number of store credit cards you would get per shift. You would get those cards or explain why not.
A lot goes on behind the scenes that the customer never sees. Just work a month and you will know what I mean.
It is not a dream job. It was nice when I did it. I asked for no more than two shifts a week, but ended up working much more due to shortage of staff and calloffs.
The bottom line is always the average daily sales and the sales goals set by corporate. Make those goals or get crucified. Retail clothing sales is a cutthroat business. It might look glamorous working for Victorias secret, NY & Co, The Limited, etc, but it can be tiring, nervewracking, and pressure packed.
Just my thoughts from my actual experience as an SA on the floor.

Retail is hard work. I worked retail when I first got out of school. I enjoyed the job, but it was not easy. In my case, I earned commission on sales so the earnings were not bad. However, as rule you get low wages, physical labor, on your feet all day, etc. Most of the customers were nice, but the bad ones could really make you miserable. You never realize just how unreasonable a person could be until you have to serve them.
