I have a friend that I have known since high school. He called yesterday and said that he was coming by after work.
Jean and I told him about my dressing a couple of weeks ago when he was over for dinner. He just said "OK".
Well, I was dressed as usual and our other friend was here. I called Skip and inquired as to when he would be arriving so I could change before he got here. I said that I didn't want him to freak out! He told me that it didn't matter to him and that he would not "freak".
Well, I don't think that anything about his demeaner had changed in the slightest. We talked about things that had happened in the past, but he never put two and two together. His mother always had a big spread on Christmas day and people would just drop by. This was before Jean and I married. I was always there, and Skip's mother and I would get into the Jack Daniels. We had sort of a tradition of getting soused and stay up most of the night talking. She would bring out all of her earrings and I would try them on. She asked me once if I was a cross dresser and I said no. I don't think that she ever believed me.
She passed away almost two years ago.
Last night, Skip said that I could have all of her jewelry!
I have finally realised that the people that love and care about us really don't care what we are wearing. I just wish that I figured that out a long time ago!
