I'm trying to find a therapist in Houston, Texas that is familiar with gender issues such as ours. Preferably one who knows what gender dysphoria is. If anyone out there can help I would very much appreciate it.

Here's a good place to start -- sorry, I have no specific recommendations for your city:

If you are employed, the best place to start is with your hr department. Just tell them that you want some therapy and they should give you a number to call for your health provider. When you call the health provider, who is probably 19 states away and wouldn't know you from Tarzan, what you want to discuss with the therapist about. You should be provided with a list of therapists in your area that they are associated with and work in the field that you are interested in. Start calling these people until you talk to one that you feel comfortable with. Up to this point, it has not cost you one cent. The therapist you pick will probably charge you less than $25 for each visit, (mine charged me $17) with your health plan picking up the rest. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

There is a very large Tri-Ess Chapter in Houston. I would go through The National Tri-Ess Site and make contact with them. In both The Orlando and Tampa Chapters that I belong to, we each have a therapist that we recommend who is friendly and familiar with transgendered problems. I would imagine The Houston Chapter does the same.

To contact, just go to www.Tri-Ess.org You will find the Houston Info under Chapters, it's a sub heading. Or look at the bottom of the page.

I am sure they can get you to the right person in Houston.

Peace and Love, Joanie

I wish I could remember the name of the therapist I went to shortly after my ex-wife left me. She was really good and when I decided to show up to one of our sessions as Kandis she didn't even bat an eye. She was impressed that I felt comfortable enough to come to see her dressed en femme. If I could only remember her name for you....

There are quite a few in Texas and the Dallas area.
