Here's a thought brought on by a pm i received from someone on here who lives quite close by (Hi bye the way!), how would i know you if i met you on the street in drab? wouldnt it be nice to give a secret handshake or show some secret sign to say..'Hi, here's a person who knows exactly how i feel, someone who understands me.' It's never going to happen but what secret sign could we potentially give to others without revealing our true identities to the world? nudge nudge wink wink:^5:

Many things one could say.
"So it is about CD?" Do you know any TG?"
Or to invent a code -
We could rub a hand along our leg and say "I hate ladders". [runs in hose]
Most people would think we worked on our roof and climbing a ladder is a pain in the butt. They wouldn't think we are complaining about runs in our hose.
The general population would not know what you are saying.
A secret code that only CD/TS know, that would be something :heehee:

AA'ers identify themselves as "Friends of Bill".
Bill Wilson being a founder of Alcoholics Anonymous for the non 12-steppers out there.
So who are we friends of ?
Christine?
RuPaul?
Eddie?
Tootsie?
That City Manager who got fired...?
....anyway, I like the ambiguous Ladder reference.

MJ, there are some very pretty CD's out there. However, even some of the same ones look God awful in drab.
Some do not need to be showing the rest of the CD world their "drab".
And par Roberta's response, we could call ourselves "Friends of Virginia" [As in Virginia Prince, the world's oldest CD'er]

The ideal solution is for us to all hone our hearing to the point that we can pick out a pair of queen-size pantyhose rustling under khakis from 100 yards.

GEESH....if you know you live very close to one another why not just work on a really good friendship to the point you aren't afraid to send the other drab photos???????
Sorry...I am just too practical I know.

Hi Becky, :hugs:
I like ElleErin's idea best, a secret handshake, sort of. As far as Racquel, sorry doll, I don't wear panty hose (garder belt and thigh highs), redundanted, but works for me. Maybe tattoos on our foreheads, "TV, TG, NS (not sure), or maybe we all wear wigs? Interesting thought and it sure got me out of my funk. Thank you Becky.
With all my love and respect,

Love the tattoo idea, lol. How about a ring we could design to be unique and easily recognizable, all we would have to do is show ours and smile.

After 100 posts you are shown the secret handshake. In the meantime look for traces of eyeliner, mascara and nail polish.

If you planned to meet in a coffee shop or pub:drink: wear something distinctive after you have told your friend what you intend to wear.
Is that too practical too?:danceman::belly::poppy02::rose::dom:

Most of my local CD friends and I know one another both ways. If you want an identifier, I'd go for a secret de-coder ring myself and the code would change periodically just to make it interesting.:heehee:

Sometimes ago, I seem to remember that there was a discussion about wearing some sort of tiny sign which would be known primarily by people who connect onto "Trans" forums...
But what would be the added value of such a sign?
I don't think that I would like someone to come to me when I'm in drab, looking at the little sign on the side of my jacket and telling me "Hi, we belong to the same community."
Actually that wouldn't happen as I wouldn't wear such a sign...

How about a tee shirt or sweatshirt with one of the emoticons that we use on this forum. Or we could design a special emoticon that only we as crossdressers would recognize.:ukflag: :fairy1::beer::canada: Here's a start.

I paint my pinky nail on my left hand black with a magic marker as a "tiny sign" that I'm a T-girl while in male mode. I've seen another girl in male mode do this, I don't know how it originated tho.
I'm pretty much "full disclosure" so I don't mind if anyone notices.

I'll be the one sitting like a girl sipping on a cup of coffee, and thinking while looking at the ladies "wow, wonder if those shoes come in a size 11..". Course you have to be able to read minds. Maybe we could use a special decoder ring or something........hehehehe

Seriously, I have heard that this was the sign (the black finger nail).
I think it might be more a sign of awareness for victims of transgendered hate crimes, similar to wearing a red ribbon for AIDS awareness or a Pink one for breast Cancer. That sort of thing.
I'm still not sure. Still I proudly and openly support it.

There can be only one! (Just watched the movie again on DVD two nights ago, and looking for a good deal on the TV series)
Any 'sign' would have to be very subtle, or else you'd start getting questions about it. Also, it word got out what it was (and word could spread pretty quickly on things like this) it will just be a way of outing yourself. It has to be something subtle, won't raise too many questions, but easy to pick up on at the same time.
Remember what one earring meant 20 years ago and all the gossip about 'left ear or right ear'? (I can't remember which ear meant 'gay' and which was 'straight', so I got both pierced! Hmmm... does that mean 'bi'?)

While I don't do it, I've seen a couple of men have a really long fingernail on one of their pinkies. I've always processed that as a cultural thing since they were both from Lebanon.

I agree with Eugenie; I wouldn't wear a "sign." However, if I had the opportunity to meet with another CD, I would definitely tell that person how to find me in a crowd or a quiet corner. I am, by the way, very eager to get together with other CDs but I have not been able to find any who live near me (i.e., within twenty to forty-five miles). I live near the Tri-Cities in Washington state.

how about putting a small masking tape "X" in your rear car window? then if the person knows the sign they can take one part of the masking tape X off the car and place it on their car so you can see it or they can write a note on the tape. in any event if some one directly asks you about the tape you know they are not a cd and you can blame it on the kids on your street always putting an X on your car for fun!

Love the idea of the CDM, however, some may recall in the 60's (certainly in the UK), it was an acronym for Cadburys Dairy Milk (Chocolate bar).
A certain Irish ballad singer also coined it as an acronym for his live shows when singing "O'Raffertys Motor Car", it meant Carrying Doonicans Motorhorn.
Then there's "Corps Diplomatique Membre" (Member of the Diplomatic Corps) and no doubt a thousand and one other attributions to the acronym.
I love it - Cross Dressing Maniac - Nice ring to it.:devil::hugs::hugs:

I think it would be really nice if we did have some secret sign to let other 'girls' know who we are when in drab, but it could be difficult, as there would be as many varied signals as there are 'girls' like us.
I for one like to observe people in everyday surroundings. A high school teacher got me doing this and coming up with short simple stories about them and what they were up to, like a secret agent looking for a message drop, etc.
If you go to a Wal-mart or similar store, and just observe people, you will notice guys in the areas on the edges of the ladies section. Watch closely and you will notice that some are pretending to look at whatever is in front of them, but actually watching for the coast to clear so they can cross that aisle and get what they have been looking at, or just checking out what is out on the racks for sale, like the naughty negligies that show up around valentines or xmas.
If you pay attention long enough, you will see the tell tale signs that we all are so familiar with when we shop for ourselves. Of course, this applies to the sisters that are not as comfy as some of us who will just walk into the ladies section and brouse our hearts out.
This only leads to the next problem though. How to approach the person without giving them a heart attack.
