View Full Version : Why Women Don't Wear Dresses

Like most crossdressers I adore women and I'm fascinated by them. Today it finally dawned on me why you see so few of them wearing skirts or dresses this time of year: it was rainy and miserable, and I understood why the women I passed on the sidewalk were all wearing pants. On a beautiful summer day, the girls break out their sundresses, but when it's cold or wet, they are a real drag...the first time you get your legs splashed you'll know what I mean. Today I had a raincoat and boots on plus a hat and my umbrella, and I still felt like a dope in a skirt!

You may have felt like a dope in your skirt and raincoat, but I bet you looked and felt cute at the same time!

From personal experience and women I know ... the main reason we don't wear dresses is 'cos we have too many wobbly bits after childbirth, unless ya one of the very bloody lucky ones, or its an age thing!!!! :heehee:

You're very sweet, but does this bedraggled, wet girl look cute?

I prefer skirts, and if you pay attention to style, there are skirts you can wear in winter or lousy weather that are appropriate. If you walk around any downtown/business area any time of year you will see plenty of women in skirts, because thats what they wear to work. that said, pants are the prefered wear for most women in winter. I go out in them sometimes, because I do think I look pretty good in them, but it just doesn't feel right to me. I admit that's because I am a cd, and skirts are my feminine ideal. Dresses are awesome, but they're not what most women wear. I don't know why. They're called dresses because, when you put one on, you're dressed! Again, there are ways to wear dresses without standing out, if you keep up on style. Like with a pretty cardigan and belt, or tights. The only thing I have a real problem with is jeans.Real women have trouble finding the perfect jean. For a cd(with no hips!!) it's even harder!

Hugs,

Melissa:happy:

if you were to wear a 3/4 length skirt with calf high boots (not suede) your mostly protected from the splashesalso thats why the men always want a woman to walk on the right of them to protect them from things coming from the road-way.(so ive been led to believe)

i could be wrong but i believe there werre two reasons to walk on the left first and formost it frees up the males right arm which in most cases is the sword arm to defend his damsel and second it placed the female under the balconys on the street so that when garbage was thrown to the street below she was protected from errant garbage just my 2 pence worth caryn

Today my wife wore a nice knee length dress and black knee high boots, topped off with black hose.....she looked great! So, some of the GG are trying.

I fully understand all about the cold and the wind. None the less though for me I am beyond happy because I am dressed. I can't really explain it but I really do enjoy it.

Hi Windy,

I know exactly what you mean! As you know, I live in California and after the bad weather is over and summer really takes hold there is a ton of cute women and girls in pretty dresses and skirts. In the winter the only people I see wearing skirts wear them long with calf length boots ... which to my mind looks great cos I just love boots!

This is true! I'm hooked on tea length skirts these days, although I used to think they were kinda frumpy I love the way they swirl when I walk, they're so feminine to sit in, and best of all I can get away without shaving my legs every day...another reason why GG's like pants I'll betcha!

:heehee: yup thats one of the reasons I dont, plus, I'm afraid I'll flash someone...carrying youngins around, thier hands and legs tend to grab onto things at the most in-oppertune moments  Example..picked my daughter up while I was sitting on the couch at Thanksgiving, her foot caught the hem of the skirt I wore (dont ask me WHY I wore one  ) and I basically flashed everyone in the room

Pants make movement MUCH easier :D

Rain? Liquid precipitation?? We won't get any of that for another 2 1/2 months -- only the frozen variety here! So you dress for it -- I picked up a really nice full-length wool-look skirt a couple of weeks ago, and my above-the-ankle skirts are fine with tights.

My wife has been wearing skirts to work every day so far this year (2008 that is), and she is taking the bus to work.

In wetter areas... there's always leather or pleather or vinyl.

Maybe it's the result of too many years active duty Army, but I'll be damned if a little rain is gonna keep me away from my skirts! Today it was raining like hell in Philidephia and I still wore my skirt and sandals. And you know what? I felt pretty and cute while I did it so wet toes didn't matter! :-)

I have just noticed something that I thought I share with all of you. I got watching the female newscasters on the local Dallas Channels and then the network female newscasters on shows like "The Today Show". I notice that everyone of them were either wearing a dress or skirt suit. Not one was wearing pants. Another thing I noticed is they all seem to be wearing 4-5 inch heels too.

The Today Show gals have limos to whisk them from their door to the studio, but I'll bet they still arrive in sweats and change into their cute outfits once they get to work!

Well Windy, I live about 90 miles north of you so I know how nasty Lake Michigan weather can be. But you're right about women not wearing skirts or dresses this time of year. I think from a practical standpoint they're doing what comes natural to them. All of us, are trying to be our feminine best all the time so I believe that's why we prefer dresses and skirts even in the rottenest weather.

I don't think it was always that way though. I can remember when schools had dress codes requiring girls to wear skirts, dresses, and in some schools, uniforms. (YUK). It used to be also, that work places required women to wear dresses or skirts. In the winter months many of the girls in school and even some women in the workplace wore "snowpants" outdoors and would remove them once inside. I used to watch the girls as they put their "snowpants" on hoping for a panty shot. (TEE HEE):heehee: Luv and:hugs: Jill

Well they don't wear for a few reasons: (Only my oppinion here)

Their expected to...
sexist professionalism at work...
really a tomboy, too femminine...
self-estem is low...
been raped before...
like to hide body, for many reasons...
too cold, drafty...
hate stockings, feels obligated to wear...
resist fashion trends...
don't like being gauked at...

You keep it going...

I'm a GG and i hardly ever wear dresses. Mainly because i have a shopping issue. I can carry huge armfuls of clothing into the dressing room and nothing ends up being good enough for me to buy. I try to shop in a meager price range so that is a big part of not finding a good cut. but it really just boils down to being extremely picky. unfortunately i end up having to buy something- have to have some clothes right- but those items are generally things I've settled on and buy because they are the closest thing i find to what I'm looking for. It is a a rare day that i find the Perfect piece of clothing that I've been looking for.

Dresses fall squarely into this issue. If one thing is wrong with the dress' cut for my body shape or the color/pattern then I'm not going to buy it- because I've bought so many flawed items and never worn them. Part of me thinks I just need to find a good tailor. I've gotten a few things tailored but haven't found the tailor that i want to rely on.

As far as skirts go i have trouble matching them to shirts. I have a bunch of really fun skirts that would fit the dress code at work but most of the shirts i have don't look right with the skirts. Something about how the two pieces come together at the waistline just doesn't look right to me. Maybe i just don't have a good eye for making fashion combinations, but when I look in the mirror and i am less than pleased with the outfit I see then i change into pants. Maybe there are other GG's out there that are similar. If i don't like it in the mirror alone at home then I know I'll be tugging and fussing with what I'm wearing when I'm out of the house. And when I leave the house the last thing I want distracting me is my clothing.

another thing that contributes to me not wearing dresses and skirt is SHOES!! since i want the outfit to look good i need a lot more shoes and i have a similar shopping issue with shoes as with clothes. As a person who lives on a budget i have a hard time spending money on clothes and shoes for fashion when I can get by on simpler and cheaper wardrobe. I am slowly trying to convince myself that these things are a necessity, but it has been a slow process so far.

You could team up a nice pair of leather pants with the boots , or even a pair of stretch denim jeans ... Boots on the outside of course .... worth a try !

Actually, I think a lot off dresses on the market are ugly! And for winter I'd rather do pants too, so that's why I have 3 pcs skirt / pants outfits and some pant suits too.

I pay close attention to what the other women are wearing in the office where I work. It's an arts organization, so the rules are somewhat more flexible.

I've seen everything from dresses to jeans, but they always look nice. Of course, here in Florida we don't have to deal with harsh winter weather.

Yesterday, there were only three of us there and we all happened to be wearing skirts.

Most guys would rather see girls and women in dresses and skirts, but most girls don't like them because they have to act so much different in them and now a days if they wear them and get raped, people say she had it coming to her because she was wearing a dress or skirt. I think a lot of women that work in offices tend to try to out dress their co-workers. Back in the 50s & 60s you hardly ever seen a girl in pants. Those were the days.

and now a days if they wear them and get raped, people say she had it coming to her because she was wearing a dress or skirt.

That's quite a turn-around in a century: when pants for women were relatively new and considered scandalous, wearing them was considered to have discarded the natural courtesy due to women as the "weaker sex", leaving the woman to be considered "at fault" for rape

I was working for the local office of a national insurance company when pantsuits for women came into the workplace in the early seventies.

Management tried to impose very strict guidelines as to color and measurements, but those went by the boards pretty quickly as the women took full advantage of the opportunity - and the novelty soon became the norm.

Where I live there's rarely cold weather or rain but it's a big city and the bus is usually needed at one point or another, it's not fun to jump out of one of those (some are very high) with a skirt and high heels.
But mainly it's the crowds gathering under bridges to get photos with their mobiles at girls using the stairs (or just stare) that dissuades me.

There will always be a England! ( or Scotland for that matter ). I lived in England for a spell and was consistantly amazed by what the girls/young women will wear out even in the worst, wettest weather. Minis galore!

I would have to say that, in general, British women are classier dressers than American. Hosiery, skirts & dresses are more commonly seen on the street in the UK than the US. Just compare M&S's hosiery department to any American department store and the difference is obvious.

BTW, I really like M&S hosiery. I'm glad I restocked my favorites last time I was over there.

All the best from the left side of the pond,

I'm so glad to hear that, and here's hoping that the trend will move from your side of the pond to ours: recently I observed to a friend after walking through a department store that the two businesses you wouldn't want to be in were men's neckties and women's stockings!
