I had to go out of town for work this week. After getting off the plane and checking into my hotel I scrambled off to the mall which was closeby. I'd already seen that a dept store there carried the MAC makeup that the lady that did my professional makeover recommended for me. No one really knows me in that city, perfect chance for shopping!
I pulled in the parking lot...almost empty at that time of evening...perfect for this drab shopper! I spot my brand's counter and went up to the young lady there. Told her what I wanted. She said is this for you? I was very nervious and said yes. She was friendly, I even showed her a pic of myself saying this was the look I want.
I thought I'd just get my stuff and haul butt! No!!! She had to match my foundation. As we are getting ready to start, this blonde chick barges up and wants a makeover! I have wait for what seemed forever as the counter girl and the blonde made an appt. I almost ditched it right there and hauled butt, but stuck it out.
Then the counter girl comes back, she starts putting small samples on my face. I look over and 10 feet away a 250 pound guy with a shaved head is smirking at me. He was the husband of the blonde I figured out.
Finally got my foundation and a few other things...and got the heck out of there! Embarrashing trip...but I got my stuff!

At least the skeevy guy didnt try and start anything...And sounds like you got some good retail practice in.
Whatd you buy at the counter besides foundation?I love their stuff,In fact Im a total make up buff(Especially MAC,I practically own the entire line).

Lucy besides the foundation I got powder and a very nice foundation brush. I wanted concealer...but the girl at the counter said I did not need it. I was too nervious to argue with her so did not get that.
The lady that did my makeover last weekend said to get very nice foundation...and buy the rest of my makeup cheaply at a drug store till I figure out my colors.
Does the nervousness ever wear off shopping in drab?

Deidra, I'm glad to hear you stuck it out. I had a good experience with the MAC people as well when I first bought makeup three weeks ago. They came highly recommended and the GUY that helped me was wearing some lip gloss and blush, so I figured I was in good hands (so to speak). Unfortunately, this was at a department store very close to my home, so I chose not to let him demonstrate on my face.
And, Deidra, the lady who did your makeup made a good point. The money I spent for a small bag of cosmetics at the MAC counter could have bought enough stuff at drug store to make DanaJ envious!

It's funny now when I think about it, but when I first started shopping I was so nervous and self concious that I probably looked like I was there to rob the place. I was so afraid that people who saw me thaught that I was buying the stuff for myself. Those were the days! Now I could really care less what they think. I think to myself, yeah it's for me, and I'll probably look better in it than you. Yesterday I went to wig shop for the first time, in drab mind you, and the saleslady and other customers didn't even blink an eye as I tried on a bunch. This will be my second wig.I bought the first on-line,and I'm happy with it, but I thought I'd try something a little lighter and a little shorter.Anyway, I found a gorgeous blonde page-shag, went home, and found the exact same wig on-line for half the price of the store. It really helped trying on different styles and colors as I was able to find exactly what I looked good in. Can't wait for it to come, and you know, life is good.

Yea, but if anyone is brave enough to start something with you when the Goth chick is right there, then she can kick their ass and then you'll have the store to yourself...well minus the law enforcement. :D
Deidra Cowen, way to go! :D I'm not that brave yet...I may never be, but I admire your courage.
