Does anyone here take voice training? I've been really curious about it and have started looking around to see if anyone would train me to make my voice more femme.

Try a singing coach.. really, I was a road musician for many many years and took voice etc., and after a few years, I can range my voice from low to high even though I havn't really exercised it I CAN get a very decent femme voice still

I believe that Mel sells a CD or DVD of instructions as well.

I'm rather excited by a discovery that I made yesterday! I was cruising the internet and found a page on cross dressing tips by Melanie Anne Phillips (http://www.jadephoenix.org/lvtgw/Info_htm/HowTo/femvoice.htm)! Check it out. She has a well written five page summary of how she has evolved as a cross dresser. One of her sections covered voice! I am now hoarse from trying it, but have found a new feminine voice. No matter how much time I used to make myself a proper lady when I went out, I had to whisper or let the cat out of the bag when asked even the simplest question like "what kind of drink would you like". My low manly voice just stuck out big time. Now that part of the feminine stage is conquered! Sort of like finding makeup the first time and the horrible clown faces I would make. At least my voice will not embarrass me as much anymore. It is rather sexy as well. That voice coming out of me!

I'll have to read about that because my voice is way to low and deep... I don't think I'll ever get to a decent fem voice... but I'll definitely read to see if there's hope for me...

How long did it take for you?

If you practice and work at it of course you can develop a femme voice.
I don't have one [too lazy to practice], my voice is high for a man but still masculine. The tone doesn't matter a whole lot, if at all, with sounding masculine or feminine. Listen to this woman's voice - deep and beautiful yet all femme - http://youtube.com/watch?v=nCGPwo28XPo [yes it is French but that is not the point...] The actual tone of her voice is probaby deeper than mine is normally.

About 10 years ago I attended some sessions at the UW voice clinic in Seattle. They were interesting and I was able to attain a somewhat female (lower) voice range. It is a lot of work and practice. I haven't looked at what resources are available today, but if this is something that you would like to try it could be fun.

As I got feeling better about myself, I decided that the voice wasn't going to help me that much.

I bought the Melanie Ann CD for voice training. I practice every morning while I am out on my route. It's not easy, but I am detecting some improvement. Here's her link: http://www.heartcorps.com/journeys/voice.htm

I just hope I can sound half as good as her. It's embarrassing but I use my wife as a critic and she gives me a reality check. I hope it goes well.

It would not hurt. YOu know often the voice is either a dead giveaway OR it can make people think "but that could not possibly be a man, listen to the voice..."

I've been trying to mimic the voices on tv also, and still can't get it right... i'm going to try some of the suggestions in this thread and I'll let you know how it goes. voice and mannerisms - the hardest part of being femme it seems. :battingeyelashes:

It definitely seems like a lot of work, but I think that for myself it would be good to do it.

do a lot of singing with female artist. My favorites are Avril Lavigne, Evenessance, Shania Twain, and anybody from the 60's-early 70's

I bought Melania Anne Phillips (http://www.heartcorps.com/journeys/voice.htm)' tape many years ago. Her system works, if you can grasp her technique. I used to practice in my car on the way home from work. I remember when I finally got it, it just sort of "clicked" and I was suddenly speaking in a very female voice, kind of freaked me out, as the voice was very different than my male voice.

I never did get to the point where I could go into that voice at will though (mainly because of the freaking-out thing), so I usually just tried to soften my normal voice a bit and used more stereotypical female inflection, and everyone always told me that my voice sounded good. My male voice is not very deep, so that worked for me.

I too bought the Melanie Ann Phillips tape and practiced for a good while. I developed a very feminine sounding voice that is now fairly easy to get into. I work daily dressed and haven't had anyone apparently listening to my voice to see if I am a guy.

I have found that after the initial few words spoken between people, if you haven't strayed too far off the middle of the road as far as speech goes, most people simply accept your voice and go on. One of my female co-workers sounds like a guy all the time. The local newspaper did an article on the "crossdresser recently hired in a beauty salon" and some people who come in listen and mistake the real woman for the CD. What a hoot. I just agree and tell them that "He" is doing the best "he" can.

My best advice is simply to relax your voice an not put too much air into it, speak softer and take you time. I used to have to chew gum to keep my mouth moist, or I couldn't say a word from dry mouth.

Your sis,

Tami

Taylor, check out this new thread http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1239317&posted=1#post1239317 Leave it to YouTube and a young newbie to our forum to bring us this great demo of how to get a femme voice. It's the best free advice I've seen.
