i am 19 and have been crossdressing for a long time. I just love clothes and want to go out shopping soon. Is it easier to pass for a person around 19 or around 40? Most of the clothes for my age show off the body more.

I think, for me, it would have been easier to pass when I was younger, like in my teens to early thirties.. the older I get the less I think I could or have the ability to pass... this is just my opinion of myself, and others may say that with age has come the ability to look fem...

Well when you are nervous you pass less. Also dressing for the occasion. But it is easier some times easier to pass at a younger age

When I was your age I probably could have passed much easier than I could now. However I was your age in 1964 and there was a huge problem with society accepting anything as radical as crossdressing. So even though I may have been more able to pass at 19, it wasn't even an option to be considered. Thanks to the gay and lesbian movements, we as tg's have come a long way in our own struggle for unconditional acceptance. Unfortunately the only way I might come close to passing now would be as a white haired granny. Luv and :hugs: Jill

For me....when I was younger. I was alot thinner, had more hair on my head. My wife would do my make-up and style my long hair, then I would put on her clothes (yes I could actually fit in them back then) and I was very passable. Now at 43, I am heavier, more muscular and my face is more masculin. That's why transexuals who start hormones when they are younger, look more feminine. They're bodies have not fully changed at the early age. Had I known this when I was younger.............

Well, in my opinion, passing at 40 is a bear! Up to about your mid 30s your younger face works in your favor big time. On the other hand, I've seen and talked to a number of Tgirls that tell you that it got easier to pass after their mid 50's because:
- their beard has gone grey and is easier to hide
- many GG women take on somewhat masculine features as they age
Being in the middle as I am, I think it's tougher than it was at your age.

It is not the age factor that makes it easier.
...... the older I get the less I think I could or have the ability to pass...
Practice which comes with age helps, like Carly D says.It is almost solely a matter of confidence, and attitude/ability to use the items that you either possess or purchase.
I have displayed myself with a mini in public and a bikini in here. It therefore has to be in the mind to some extent.

Actually I do not think that society really knew about it, it was all homo etc and a good presentation got away with it

That last item is a fact, as it is also true that many gg girls have such features. Putting it another way by 40 you probably have the face you deserve.
I now have the face of my second deserving.

I've worn panties since I was a teen, but really did not
explore crossdressing to the extent that I do now,
until I was in my 40's

At 49, my skin is in good shape and my teeth are fine. My smile works and I am usually happy and radiant. With my attitude and energy, I pass as well as I can.
At a younger age, I think I would pass slightly better, especially because I could have used my own hair.

Much easier to pass when young, mostly it is indiference and self absorption in those around you that give you only a cursory glance if anything. Young people tend to have lass beard trouble and have more gender neutral faces, better skin etc.
Dress down for shopping and up for the club but whatever it is enjoy and look confident however many butterflys are flying around inside.

Younger and I wish I still was. I do dress younger than I am though and even as a male I look younger than most my age.

Unless you have great genes and an even greater attitude...crossdressing is a young man's game.
That does not mean the over 40 crowd is out of the game...it just means youth has the advantage.

I can go out much easier now that I am in my mid-50s, partly because of my amazing dark beard has grown grey in spots and my attitude has changed about getting out. I am still six foot and definitely stand out amongst 5'6" ladies, but I wish I knew what I knew now back when I was 19!!!

I think age has made me older wiser and more skilled in blending in.
When I was younger I wanted to shock.

I would look at it for a few different angles:
When you are younger you may pass, however youth are more braver.
When you are older you may have harder lines but with weight gain in the right areas you may pass. Also with age we are more careful about our outings and if we are not out to friend and family we are more cautious with youth this is not an issue as much.
With age another thing happens, male hormones begin to drop and somemen I have seen you could not tell them from a women of the same age. Note: I said some not all!
With me I look the same as I did when I was younger and I have more money too.

You know the old adage " If I knew then, what I know now"? Well if I had the certainty and love of my femininity, the self confidence and independence I have now at age 20 ... I would have done more.
Then I could depend more on gracefulness, a slim healthy figure and youth. Now I have some of the same but more than that I have experience, attitude, confidence and the self assuredness of knowing what I'm doing is right for me.
Every situaton is different. I've waited until now and glad I did. But that's just me.

This statement seems to hit the mark a bit more accurately than most of the others. A younger person has usually softer features and a more slender form, therefore bearing a bit more resemlence to a GG. Again, in general a middle aged person may have sharper, more masculine features. A person later in age could well have softer features, especially if a bit on the heavy side. There are a lot of variables but the general rule would seem to be it's easier for a person to pass or be accepted until around 30.
However, all this means that it's a bit more difficult and might require more attention to details such as makeup and the like. The end result should be about the same.
The key is still confidence and belief in yourself. If you are confident, wear a nice smile, and dress tastefully, you should be at least accepted by the world around you. As other threads have shown, passing itself is mostly untatainable in the long run anyway, so the goal should be acceptance, which is attainable for most of us at any age.
