if anyone that has met me is watching is reading this thread i apologise but i just had to ask this question - i need some opinion on this - i have recently been to a tg meeting twice but so far have had to dress when i get there - havnt had so far the confidence to go out dressed from where i live - but to be honest whats nagging me is there is no real risk from a neighbour point of view as i dont know any of my neighbours anyway - and dont really care if i cross paths with any of them - (they dont know me so what) - but as i dont drive at the moment i will have to get a taxi cab - to get me to the venue and i'm just a bit i dont know why worried about it - no i'm not scared of the cab driver but more a case if will he want me in his cab - could he refuse to allow me in his cab - i live in england so maybe its different over here but believe me silly things like this you know just gettin from a to b are just seemingly problems at the moment - i mean i know womens clothes shops are cd friendly but are cab drivers - part of going out an having a femme experience for me must meen going out en femme not having to go out in guy mode and changing when you get to the venue surely !

I'd not worry if I were you. I'm sure most cab drivers worry about their night receipts, than what their passenger wares.

As long as you are not sloshing drunk and acting stupid they aren't gonna care what you are wearing, I mean the cabbies in the UK are not like these conservative religious nuts are they?
In America, the cabbies are concerned only with if the person is actually going to pay for their fare.

Does that include religious conservative CD's as well ?

Wouldn't you have grounds for an EUC complaint if they refused to convey you?

In Canada a cab that refused to carry a (sober, polite) cross-dresser would risk facing a serious Human Rights Act complaint. They just aren't going to risk it unless they have quite strong reasons (e.g., there is a discussion in parts of Canada about the rights of Sihk drivers to refuse passengers with Guide dogs, as their religion apparently prohibits touching animals -- but any taxi driver in Canada who was worried about religious prohibitions on touching women or being alone with unrelated women wouldn't take up taxi driving at all, as there is absolutely no way that taxi drivers would be permitted to refuse GG fares in Canada.)

The big problem is your own thoughts, some people may look twice, others may not. But their job is getting you there. Just keep your head high, act natural, wear your most fem voice and fly.

Don't let others control your life, it's too short.

Hi Shirley,

I used to be a cab driver in Surrey and South London. My main concern when picking up a fare was 1/ Would I get paid, 2/ Would I get attacked and 3/ Would they throw up in my cab.

I believe that cabbies here, like pub landlords here don't have to give a reason if they refuse service, but if they've used feul to get to your address they want to get your fare. I'm sure that 99% of them will be polite, the other 1% would probably only have a grin on their face and treat it as another storey to tell back on the taxi rank

Like you, I don't get out much dressed so take any oppotunity that I can.

Good luck

Barbara

Hi Shirley,
I don't see why you should have any problems with taxis. I don't really see that it makes any difference if you're dressed as a man or a woman as long as you're paying the fare. Drivers drop off and pick up from pubs/clubs all the time and I'm sure every one of them has had crossdressers in the back at some time. I'm not that confident going out dressed alone but I've never had any bother with taxis.
Let us know how you get on.

I have taken cabs several times with no problem. Once in San Francisco I got a cab to Trannyshack, the cab driver turned out to be a faux queen, we had a great time on the way to the club.

Here in Chicago (Gangster Town) most cabbies
are AFRAID of their passengers...

hi nicki - well just no problems like so many say to me its all in your head - i just have to start listening to people who know more than me

they really are a nice group of girls at os i guess i am lucky to have somewhere to go so close to home - many dont i guess - the best part of the night for me though was the walk between venues - a bit scary but i had another t girl walking along side me which i'm not kidding you helped especially when i was heading towards a crowd of people outside a club used to be the ritzy been there many times as bob - i change my stance on things passing is not neccessarily important and maybe i still dont but believe me being able to walk through a crowd of people and seemingly not get any strange looks or nasty comments certainly does help at least to begin with anyway !

i am still looking towards the ultimate for myself - shopping en femme - but i'm not going to push it - the most difficult thing about going out to begin with is the concern over how your going to look to people isnt it but the only way you will ever find out is to just do it - hope to catch up with you later

That wouldn't be the Ritzy in Newcastle would it? Sorry, forums won't let me check profiles until I do more posts.

If you're worried about how you will look to people when shopping en femme, how about turning up at shops early in the day during a school day? In my experience, shopping in drab for shoes shortly after shops open at 9:00 has been trouble-free.
