View Full Version : First Shopping Day

I've been lurking at this forum for a few weeks and noticed that a lot of the girls here just go shopping. I used to agonize over this and even went so far as to obtain a PO box so I could shop by mail. (I gave that up)

Well I found that I have to go out of town for a week and was given the entire day to drive there and thought that I would try buying some new items on my way. I've seen a number of the girls say to do this early when the store first opens due to the fewer number of other shoppers. However, I stopped in a small town and found almost all the store employees watching me. I was in drab and not in the womens department and found this was too disconcerting to shop there. After leaving, I thought the reason they were watching me was that this was a small town and I was not a local person.

A few hours later (right at lunchtime) I found myself in a suburb of Dallas, right in the middle of a few strip malls where there was just about one of every store known. I went into one store and bought a new nightgown and then went to another and bought a new sleeveless blouse and a bra. None of the other shoppers even looked twice at me and the sales clerks only comments were "How are you doing today?" and "Would you like to sign up for one of our credit cards?

Wow, It was all I could do not to go and spend all my travel money hitting the different stores. I was really anxious when going to the checkouts, but it seems that all money is green as far as these stores were concerned (Target & Kohl's). I think that the attitude of people in the larger cities is a bit more relaxed and accepting of differences. This is not to say I could go anywhere in town and shop hassle free, but that in the smaller towns I would probably regarded as deviant anywhere I shopped. My personal feeling is that I would rather shop in a larger city even if the store is crowded that anytime in a smaller town. My one concession to my fears was to choose a female sales clerk. For some reason I can't bear the thought of checking out with a male clerk.

I just want to thank all the girls in this forum for giving me the insight that buying feminine items personally is not the big deal I thought it would be.

Hugs

Good for you. I went shopping with great determination one day at the local cheapo market, only to be confronted by a whole market populated by young males under 19 with what they thought was a moustache. (This was ALL the women's clothing stalls. (Asian prices are dead cheap).

I bought a ....drill bit.

HYE JENNA; I am pleased to hear that you found your first shopping experience okay.I guess you must have suffered with the nervous nineties at first! but afterwards when you got your elegant pretty female atire back to your pad-that you were in the seventh heaven.Jenna,you sound very sweet and I know you will find this site really marvellous.I have only joined a couple of days ago but find the site absorbing and compelling.I just can't wait to chat with all these kindred spirits-it has brought a great blesing into my life and given me the courage to plunge deep into cross-dressing.I have always found myself more inclined to the feminine aspect of things and hope that one day I will become what I have always wanted to be a WOMAN!
Until that day,
Hope to hear more from you.
Love and kisses,
Samantha.xx

I have to agree with the female check out people. I feel much more comfortable with a female cashier, to the point that i go elsewhere when I do not see any females in the store. It is probably ignorance, there is always a chance that a male cashier may have gender issues, maybe he's even a CD, and feel happy to help you. But how would you know that.

My first trip was inspired by someone here and it seemed the more I put in the cart the easier it got I have to go to middletown NY there are a lot of stores there and i don't know anyone there. On my second trip I am really going to try and get the nerve to try the clothes on because I picked up a really nice skirt that was a little to tight when I got home I looked at the size on the hanger and not the skirt. I would love to meet someone from the middletown ny area to go shopping with is there anyone out there that can help.

Julie;
lol, I can't tell you how many times I chickened out in the past and bought something I really didn't need.

Wendy;
It was your kind of attitude that enboldened me to try again today and worry less about it. Thanks

Samantha;
Thank you very much for the kind words. I also am looking forward to chatting with many here, I love this site. I tried a few other CD forums in the past, but they all seemed to be consumed with catfighting or sexual predators. I think that this is the place I've been looking for all along.

Hugs

Jenna,

Welcome to the forum, you'll love it here. A nightgown, blouse and a bra! Not too bad for your first purchase. Looks like you've got it in your blood.

The first thing I ever bought was a panty/garter thingy. I spent what seemed like an eternity walking up to it, looking, walking away, coming back, looking at it some more, walking away........ I'm sure security was keeping an eye on me by that time. That was many years ago, now it's so much easier - I buy my thigh-high stockings like I was buying bread.

Still, on the occassion when I'm shopping and begin to feel indecisive about an item, I walk out of the store and shop somewhere else for awhile till I make up my mind. I think it can be somewhat disconcerting for female customers and salespeople when they begin to notice a man (I always shop in drab) milling around with no obvious intent to buy anything.

I used to chicken out all the time. I would end up buying something unrelated that I didn't need/want. Now I'm much better about browsing and I have even tried on a pair of girls jeans in the store (in the men's changing room though). Someday I hope to try on some prom dresses in a store...but I haven't got the guts yet.

Hey jenna... great job!
I think you and I have a lot in common at this point. I also had an amazing experience a couple of weeks ago when I took a few days off work and decided to go shopping at our local mall.. I was so afriad of people starring at me but it turned out the more nautrally acted the less strange I seemed to them.. and some even thought of me as a girl :) which made me smile... by the end of it I had bought a pair of blk panties and a matching top.. I also bought some earings and a cute purse although I dont have piercings I would like to someday.... I had so much fun because for the first time I felt like I was acting naturally being who I am.. I would love to find someone to go shopping with, talk about girs stuff, even had a slumber party.. I could never have those things when I was younger and although Im only 28 I would love to have afriend to share this things with..

Jennacd Glad to hear your firsr shopping trip turned out fine.
I used to get very nervous when shopping. Now I have a great time shopping and browsing around. The sales clerks are always ready to help me find what I'm looking for. I usually look on my own. I will know what I want when I see it.
I have even had a gal help me try out a bust enhancer at Vectoria's Secret.

Your story sounds completely normal. We all seem to say the same thing. Small towns are scary and female clerks are more comfortable.

But check this out... I went shopping in a small town one time for a halloween costume. That excuse made me feel safer in the small town. The clerk in one store was very helpful and she had me walk out of the dressing room. She had me trying all sorts of things. I loved it so much. I was already hooked, but this drove the hook much deeper! Another clerk came out of the back and they were complementing me on my figure and my legs. I didn't want to leave. I came back to the store some time later and the lady remembered me (she was in her 60s) and jokingly asked if I was shopping for women's clothes or men's. I told her womens and she helped me just like before. Small towns aren't all bad!

I just got back from my second shopping night. I eventried everything on in the stores I had to pick some things up for my glamour shots makeover tomorrow night. The fact that noone seems to care about the shopping is very reassuring for my next step a make over and photo session I have to bring three or four outfits they have somethings but want to make sure you have some things.
