"What's with men wearing capri pants now? Is this some sort of new fashion trend?" :heehee:

Penny and I were at Disney's Epcot Center here in Florida earlier in the week to attend a Petula Clark concert (she was magnificent by the way!), and as we were taking in all the sights during the day prior to the concert, Penny was marveling at the number of men that she saw wearing capris and asked me that question. Actually...I was pretty surprised myself as I had not seen any of this at all here in Lakeland since we moved down here almost 3 years ago. Have any of y'all been seeing this fashion trend on men in your neck of the woods too? I think that it's pretty cool actually. I have some capris myself but haven't worn them out in public...not yet anyway! :D

I recall that boys and men wore Calypso pants back in the early 60's ? They were associated with beachwear, and Harry Belafonte. I think they were slightly longer than women's capri's. Pedal Pushers weren't as tight.

i go to europe frequently -lots of men in capris for at least 2 years.growing up in austria in the 40s and 50s i wore 2 pairs of leather pants-shorts for thesummer and long ones in winter-the long ones reached to below the knee and were tied there.this is still part of the national dress today and seems to make its way back into the mainstream in the form of capris?

I've seen a lot of 3/4 length pants in the UK when I've visited there over the last 4 years. The depressed dollar has brought a lot of visitors to central FL from the UK. So that is probably why you saw a lot of them around the attractions.

On the other hand, whenever I stealth dress, I almost always wear capris. I have yet to get a second glance or a comment.

I really see no difference in capris and the baggy shorts guys wear that come down to mid-calf except capris look nicer to me. I do not like baggy clothing and think the long shorts are so ugly but my son and most his age think they are so cool in them.

Sounds to me like it might be extra long (and probably baggy) shorts. I've see some shorts that were so long I wondered why? It was to the point that they looked more like pants that didn't fit.

Ok, as some of you know, I'm British but have lived in California for 5 years now.

When I first came over I couldn't believe that my wife Marla had never hear of guys wearing 3/4 length chino pants (capris). Ok, they're not as tight fitting as girl's capris but they are capris all the same ... in the sense they stop at mid shin length.

I have several pairs of capris that I wear in boy mode and I rarely get any "looks". Here's a copy and paste from Wikipedia on capris.

"Capri Pants ("capris") are a style of pants usually worn in warm weather. They are designed to end mid-calf or just below the calf. More recently, the length of the pants has been shortened to just below the knee in some designs. Though capri pants are most popular with women, they have become popular among men in many countries, especially Europe. Although they have recently begun to be worn by young and middle-aged men in urban areas of the United States, they are still primarily worn by women in urban and non-urban areas of the U.S."

Yup that was me. Wore them once, and only once. Got royally teased.

GenOh no, these really were capris...and not being worn by young boys but by MEN! Believe me...my wife knows the difference, which was why she addressed the question to me in the first place.

About 5 years ago my wife and I were on a climbing holiday in the Alps and we saw lots of men wearing capri pants. (as well as having a great time in a great set of mountains!) I guess I pushed the issue a lot and finally she agreed that men can look good in capri pants. So...I have 4 pair now and wear them all the time and all around town. Skirt wearing is probably out of the picture so this is a close second.

If you look in the mountain gear catalog you will see at least 1/2 dozen types of capris for men especially mountain hardwear (who also offer a mountain kilt). I have both boy and girl capris...you can guess which ones I like best.

I've seen a few men wearing in Western Canada.
Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) has stores throughout Canada. They had displays in their stores labelled MEN'S CAPRIS.
I have couple of capris that I were with my GAP ballet flats.
