Hi Ladies, I am so confused right now. I hear one thing than another & I don't know which end is up.
I know I need to live as Janelle for a time before I can have the sugery done. But what I need to know is will my employer only letting me use a single stall restroom make me wait longer?? I have heard no & Yes. In fact I heard the yes claim it could keep me from getting it done at all. I hope someone can help as my mind is just swimming away. I see my therapist in the morning & plan on asking her but you ladies our more like family & I know you won't point me in the wrong direction.
Thank you all in advance. Your all special to me.
Hugs, Janelle

The answer depends on where you live and who you work for. Some states and municipalities have laws preventing discrimination based on gender identity that require employers to make appropriate facilities available. Most don't. Many employers (including most of the the largest companies in the USA) have non-discrimination policies that cover us. Some larger employers, and most smaller ones, don't.

Most of the time, the restroom issue seems to be resolved acceptably, but there are exceptions. You'll have to bring the issue up with your HR people to determine how your company will handle it.

No, your employer can't prevent you from having surgery, and therapists and surgeons will overlook any difficulties you've had with using the correct restroom due to employer discrimination.

However, your employer can fire you for some flimsy pretext, and unless you live in one of the states with legal protection for gender identity, there won't be anything you can do about it.

IDK how this all works outside the USA...

Thanks for that info. I live in Wiscinsin & work for Trane. They have a no harrasment policy so no one says anything. I have talked with several people that help company's get thru this & they tell me that Trane is totally against me. This makes me feel very uneasy. Also today they(Trane HR) said if I have problems related to my transition those would not be covered under my insurance,LIFE SUXS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When one finally gets to know who they really are everyone craps on ya. Guess I will do more searching to find some kind of help.
Thanks again.
Hugs,
Janelle

It seems that even if the company officially has a non-discrimination policy, it will depend a lot on how willing the company is to back it up concerning TG people. Wisconsin does not have an official coverage for trans people, but it does specifically cover sexual orientation in it's non-discrimination laws. You may be able to use that to your advantage with your employer.
