I want to let everyone know the update on my health so you won't worry. I do have an illness called Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It's a deadly staph infection that they are trying to find an anti-biotic that will fight it. I have it in my lungs. I have home health care nurses comeing to my house and keeping a watch over it. I get scared when I can't breathe well. I caught it when I was in the coma on the respirator. For some odd reason having my mouth opened with plastic tubes going down my throat caused me to catch it because you get staph through cuts. And my sister said that I was was out of it (obviously) and was chomping down on my own tongue while biting down on the tubes. So I had cuts inside my mouth. They ended up putting this thing inside my mouth where I was unable to close my mouth at all. So I couldn't bite my tongue but with the cuts in my mouth and MRSA flowing free through the hospital air I caught it. It can take months to clear up. I still have breathing problems and get out of breath easily. I keep fighting though. My liver is doing better now. It's not all better but it's getting there. My eyes are still yellow but my skin is now milk pale. lol Better than yellow though right? I have lost a lot of hair. Mostly in the back. They say it was my liver that caused it but I think laying in bed for almost two months now hasn't helped my hair any. It's a good thing I like hats is all I will say. My walking is getting a little better. I still walk like a toddler but it's slowly improving. I will be having physical and occupational therapy come to my house as well as the nurse. I'm hoping that in another four months I will have everything back the way it was. I'm fighting hard for it. I have setbacks but I never give up. My spelling and typing is starting to come back to me the more I do it. :) :) I still can't tie my shoes or write longhand but I think that the more I do dextrous stuff the more easy it will get. Okay, don't want to bore you now so I will go. I'm still crying off and on all day over Van and I feel like my heart is torn to shreds. Please keep Craig and I in your hearts and prayers as we deal with the loss of our baby. Love to you all, Taylor

Slowly but surely, brother. I keep you both in my thoughts all the time. Four months should mean you should be up and ready to go to Southern Comfort in September. Keep kicking infection butt, brother. My heart goes out to you and Craig for the loss of your precious Van.

Hey Taylor.....Keep fighting, dude, My Mom had MRSA after her cancer surgery (also in her lungs, she had large cell carcinoma of the lung) from her chest tube, which somehow got infected after the surgery...and she is fine now....but I do know what a battle that is after watching her go through it.....Think of you a lot and wonder how you're doing and always am looking for updates....Hang in there.... :hugs:**Trey**

Keep on fighting Taylor, you've come a long way already.

Regarding your hair problem, my mother had a viral infection in her liver a few years ago, that caused some major hair loss, but when the infection was gone it all grew back.

You know wha they say, what does kill you makes you get free dessert in the end... wait that's not right! Either way, I know you will beat this and am so happy to hear you letting us know how you are doing.

You are getting there Taylor thats the main thing....MRSA is a bitch, im sorry you managed to contract it...but im so glad to hear the otherside of your health is starting to slowly return back to how you were, that is amazing considering how you were....regarding the hair loss, get a hairdresser to give you short back and sides whilst its growing back, i bet you would look so cute :daydreaming:

I'm so happy to hear that you're getting better. It seems you can use the computer now and walk a bit.

Sorry to hear about the MRSA, that is a little bit of a worry. Best wishes.

I've been thinking of you.

I'm sorry Taylor to read about your losing Van. I know it hurts a lot when we lose our fur babies. :( Craig and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Keep fighting the good fight. Sounds like you get just a bit better every day now. I'm thinking before you know it all those little steps will snowball and you'll be healing faster than anyone thought possible.

*gentle hugs* to both of you.

Thanks for that, Kieron. He's too sweet to kill you, don't worry. I agree he looks a lot better than I would have thought, considering all he's been through. He looks a bit tired, but his skin has good color, and no yellow in the eyes, as I was expecting.

Rest up and take care of yourself, sweet Taylor. :hugs:

Kieron......you are lucky I am too sweet to kill you. haha Sorry I haven't been around much guys. I'm still working hard in physical therapy and junk. I have neuropathic pain in my feet that was caused by my blood sugar going super high (900!!) and being on insulin when I was in the hospital. Once my kidneys straightened out the diabetes went away but not before causing nerve damage to my feet!! The doc has given me some Neurontin but it doesn't really do much. I heard of a pill called Lyrica that's supposed to be good so I'm going to ask her for that the next time I see her. I'm working on making videos but youttube is being a real pain. It is taking like 45 minutes to upload a three minute video!!

I went to visit Van's grave yesterday. It was a big mistake. I wasn't ready and it has been traumatizing for me ever since. I keep seeing that big pile of dirt in my mind. My Chihuahua, Dew, is doing better. He's getting used to being the only dog now. I wish I could get through the sadness. I guess only time will help with that. I promise I will try to come here more. One more thing. I can't get into the Boy's Clubhouse. Was I evicted? lol

Ah uhhh that might be my doing lol, Craig visited here whilst you were sick on your username after many of us emailing him and telling him he was quite welcome to set up his own account in his name, but he never replied to any of us, he posted in the boys clubhouse and as that is a private area and a sanctuary to you he was blocked from using it....im sure one of the mods will let you back in if you re-apply :D

PS you love me too much to kill me :p, and that picture i LOVE, its a testement that you are getting there dude!

My mother has been having a lot of neuropathy lately, and she's seeing a doctor about it and trying some new treatments (off the label kinda stuff) so I'll let you know what works for her if anything does.

Yeah, I sent Taylor a PM and let him back in.

This Neurontin is not working for me unless I take like double the dosage the doc told me to take. It sucks!!

Taylor, it took a bit of digging but I finally found what most chemo doctors recommend for the kind of nerve damage you've had to endure. (Various friends journals who survived the worst chemo in the world leaving fingers, toes and wrists numb and weak).

they instructed me to get L-glutamine powder and take 10 grams of it a day to alleviate the numbness/pain in my fingers - er, why didn't they tell me this earlier? That's what I don't understand. Was I supposed to ferret this information out myself? I can do that, but why the **** didn't they tell me. The woman sharing my room had the same experience: they only told her about the L-glutamine powder after she complained about severe nerve symptoms. Why don't they share this information right away and prevent some of this nerve damage? Grrrr arrrg.

Given I have found that many minerals or vitamins (or both) help the body heal faster with far fewer side effects, it may be something you may want to try or at least ask your doctor about taking. This particular gal had gotten increase doses of pain killers and Neurontin for the same nerve damage you have - less than 3 months later of taking L-glutamine she no longer suffered from nerve damage, particularly in her hands and wrists.

Hope it helps - she has some interesting rants about the medical care industry and I can't find disagreement with that.
Get well buddy! :D

edit: oops, forgot to add magnesium to that, it was in a seperate entry but tied to taking L-glutamine. The prescriptions you get are condensed versions of L-g and Mag. d'oh!

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to ask my doc about it. I know I can't take the Magnesium though. They had me on that and I had the runs so bad I was losing weight like crazy. Not good. But I'll check out the other stuff. I consider myself to be pretty tough but even I have been crying all day over the pain in my feet.
