I'll wait to share my story to see if this thread picks up. The origin of mine lead to a huge revelation as to the whole, I believe, Genesis of my dressing. I'm curious as to the other stories out there. Did you pick your own, did your SO or someone else?

Ciao,

I picked my own name. I "tried on" a bunch of different names and Amber just seemed to fit me like a favorite piece of clothing, so that became my name.

Sophia KT

I made mine up: 'Sophia Knox-Thundercliffe'. Sophia because I'm reading Greek at the mo. and it means means 'wisdom'. It also sounds quite sweet.

I can't explain 'Knox-Thundercliffe'. The latter was a name of a customer, which I though was cool, and I stuck 'Knox' in front of it out of pure high spirits.

Can't wait to hear you story.

One day I was sitting at the bus stop, and I felt a sharp blow to the head.
When I woke up later [with a horrible headache] I was standing before a group of secret agents who had kidnapped me. They gave me some ibuprofin and that soon rid the headache.
They explained that they knew I was a CD and explained that they had picked a female name for me and informed me that it is "Erin".

Yes I was very scared at first until they all pulled off their suits and we all danced and sang to the song "Barbie girl" in our boas and pink lingerie.

We got tired of dancing and singing after about an hour and we got dressed up like cindrerellas. They took me to their favorite restaurant and during dinner, they initiated me into their group, the "CinderFellas". The initiation was I had to use the woman restroom, and afterwards, I have to wear a strawberry pink wig and walk into a biker bar. I did all this and nothing bad happened. I went back and sat down and we all ate. So now I am part of their group.

The thing is, I have to use Erin as a name or I could lose my membership and those agents will come to my home and take away all my woman clothes. Big deal you say? Well yeah, most of my clothes are womens. They have agents that I don't know about [I think they are the girls with strawberry blonde wigs] who will watch me when I am with my CD friends. The agents see if my friends call me "Erin". In fact, I think they are watching my Internet moves as well.

So I know it is complicated but that is how I got my female name.

When I was picking my name, I kept coming up with Kaitlyn Marie. That's always been the name I wanted to choose if my wife and I had a daughter. While going through my head as to why, it finally hit me that my mom told me years ago that Kaitlyn Marie was the name picked out for me if I was born a girl. This was shortly before ultrasounds, mind you. That lead me to start thinking about how early I started "dressing" and I think it was very early (5 or 6). I remember my mom, who due to my birth couldn't have any other children, telling me frequently how much she wished that she could have a daughter as well as a son. I was/am very close to my mother, especially since I was an only child and she was a stay at home mom. My father on the other hand was a very masculine disciplinary type of dad. I remember when I became a teenager, my dad told me that if I got my ear pierced he would put me in a dress. That and my Grandfather teasing me when I was young because of my "long hair" (barely to my shoulders) that I was his granddaughter, definitely didn't allow for open discussion of my curiosity. I'm sure that my mind somehow wanted to be a girl for my mom, but knew full well the wrath that would be laid down if I ever discussed it with anyone. It was in a discussion with my wife on what my female name would be that this all came crashing down on me like a ton of bricks. It's nice to, at least, partially understand why this has been such a draw to me. Anyway, I've rambled on for too long now. Just thought I would share the story of the origin of my name.

Ciao,
Kaitlyn

This might be the best story I've ever read on this site.

Sharon
04-13-2008, 11:11 AM
I saw "Sharon" laying around in the name files, not being used while every derivation of Tiffany, Brittany and Lolita had long since been grabbed up, so I snuck it out before some other miscreant could take it away from me.

BTW -- my real name is Sapphire Désirée, but the story behind that one is much too long -- and potentially incriminating -- to get into.

From my parents - don't we all get our name from our parents. My Father was Patrick, so I feminised it a bit. My Mother's stage name before she had me was Margaret Dale. So I'm Tricia Dale. Easy :)

SweetCaroline

I've had a connection with the name "Caroline" since I was fourteen. I didn't have very many friends growing up, and lived in a rich fantasy world. In one of my fantasies I was a rock star, and the bass guitar player in my band was named Caroline Scott. Since then there was always a Caroline character in my fantasies. I eventually used the name for a character in a comic story, later a novel. I added the middle name Emily after Emily Dickenson, since I liked writing and felt a kinship to her reclusive lifestyle. That and I thought Emily was a pretty sounding name. When I started posting on the internet en femme, and started going out, I knew my name could never be anything but Caroline Emily, and it never will.

And I havn't met that many other "kellys" in my life.

Jena11
04-13-2008, 01:17 PM
Well, I am still not sure about Jena, however I really like it. I mostly have tried to take a female version of my male name, but I am so use to using intials that I need to stick with something that starts with J. I also asked my friends and got there thoughts. JC

Quickly, for those who've read my posts here in the past, I was going by the name Selene.... I've since changed to Keri. I chose Keri primarily beacuse it's a more usable name IRL, it seems to fit me much better, all my friends call me Keri in WoW.. and oh yeah, my wife likes it much better!

my name came from a friend of the family I really liked it and I didn't have to change my initials

Paula G
04-13-2008, 04:04 PM
I picked the name myself. The feminine form of my given name is very unusual, so I took the feminine form of the name historically associated with my real name. The G stands for Graham, a name I thought went well with Paula.

I have thought about changing it to either April or Rachel, but Paula is now a part of who I am.

Julie York
04-13-2008, 05:03 PM
I picked Julie York from the French novel "Mon amour pour le caoutchouc" about a Brothel Madmam, Julie York, who takes under her wing a young and vulnerable girl from Paris called Saphire Desiree.

ReginaS
04-13-2008, 10:29 PM
My first ex-wife, who ended up leaving me largely because of the crossdressing, gave me my name though she does not know she did it. One of the first times she saw me dressed she said to me, quite sarcastically, "What do I call you, Rogerina?" I shortened that and corrected the spelling. It also worked well when I was just first beginning to socialize en femme because it sounded enough like my male name that I would respond even when I was nervous. Now I have credit cards with that name and I almost answer more readily to Regina than the other name people know me as when I am presenting as male.

I've mentioned this in previous threads but I'll say it again. My male name is Bill, I started using Billie as my femme name about 15 years ago. my wife knew about my dressing but never approved so I stayed hidden. At that time I didn't know what the internet was and I was contacting other dressers through the personal ads in my newspaper. I used a PO box for all my correspondence. Because of a mixup at the post office some of my confidential mail started coming directly to my home. I stopped using Billie and stopped all correspondence so my wife wouldn't know.

Fast Foreward to 2003, I decided to try using a femme name again (still using a PO box), but all I did was change the B to a J and I became Jill figuring that if the post office screwed up again and sent mail addressed to Jill to my home, I could tell my wife that it was probably a typo. I didn't start using the computer until my wife passed away last August and I had already established myself as Jill so I continued using the name. My screen name, JiFem9ll is the first two letters of Jill, followed by a cryptic spelling of feminine, followed by the last two letters of Jill. Luv and :hugs: Jill

TGMarla

When I was about 14, I had a friend whose mother was a night shift nurse and divorced. This was back in about 1974. I used to go over there after school and hang out until he had to go to grandmas house for the night while she worked. Well, she used to walk around in her white full slip, bra and panties that were quite visible underneath her slip. I went over there one day when I knew he was already gone, she said I could come in and keep her company while she got ready for work. When she was in the bathroom, I saw a full slip in the laundry basket in the laundry room. I snuck in and was holding up against me "sizing it up" when she came in and caught me. Let's just say her name was Karyn and she taught me alot about wearing slips and panties that year.

Glad to see that I wasn't alone in my reasoning. For those that chose the girl name your mother picked out if you'd been a girl, do you feel that your dressing is some result of psychologically trying to be what your mother wanted somehow deep down?

Lesley Ann
04-16-2008, 12:25 PM
I thought I'd use my Mother's name, Dorthy, which I did, then after my wife died I met my Partner Marie, who suggested Lesley, which when I registred my name for Equity some hundred years ago or so (I cannot remember the exact number) there was already an Equity member with the same name. So I changed it to Leslie Howard, and Ann is my sister's name. To night we are going out for a meal (it's my birthday) and when I booked the restrauant they asked my for my name, I nearly said Lesley Ann, because that is who I feel, and think I am, Lesley Ann!

Genifer Teal

We've done this many times before. Mine is quick so here it is again. Genifer because Gen is only one letter off my birth name and it sounds almost the same. I wanted to know I was being called so sounding similar helps. Teal because it combines so well with Gen. Gen-Teal. Once I explain that I wait for the "aha" moment. No one ever forgets my name after that.

The most beautiful teacher I had in school was named Bonnie. Yes she was of Scot decent and yes I would have chosen that name but it didn't feel right to take from her what didn't belong to me. And yes I did have a major crush on her. I am a writer when not driving a truck and so I chose a name which is the name of a major charactor in my book. In the book Sarah is from the "South" but does not have the double name as I write it here, but I thought since Sarah was already taken I would adjust the name a bit. I imagine her to be as lovely as the lady who was my teacher in school.

I originally chose Briony as my male name is Brian and it was the name my cousin Alison gave to her daughter. She never said it was after me but I was her very favourite cousin when we were kids...so I guess I assumed that's why she did it. I didn't really like the 'ring' of it so I changed it to Brianna...much nicer, I think. :)

well before i was born and my folks were just sure they were having a girl this time, my name was to be lisa marie. I think this is partly to blame for my gender disturbia. anyway i'm not sure how much i like lisa marie. for now i'm using Morgan which is my real middle name. My girlfriend says she likes it, and it seems to fit. I have introducd myself by my real first name when crossdressed before as i am not very practiced.

I use to be quite a gamer, I loved rpg's, and would always play a female warrior. I tried a few names but Sheena became the one I always used. When I came out with who I really was, TG, I used that name. And then I looked up the meaning. It's Celtic/Gaelic, My roots, and means "God is gracious". Then My doctor when filling out a form so I could get a name change on my driver license asked me if I had a middle name, to which I responded that I had been thinking about it but didn't have one at the moment. I went to sleep that night an awoke with the name Renee which is French for 'reborn' also Gaelic. My new name I believe was given to me by God who is walking with me on this journey.

When I attended my first Tri-Es meeting I was asked to sign in using my fem name. I did not have one at the time. I chose Carole because 1) it is a variation of my male name so, if someone called my Carole and I responded no one would be the wiser; 2) I have many female friends named Carol/Carole and one that I particularily admired was Carole so, I chose that name.

Well not too complicated here, I have always liked the name Dakota it means friend or ally in indian. Ann was the name of a very close girlfriend in college.

I don't know where my name of Daphne came from. Actually I hadn't really thought about a Female name untill I decided to join this forum. However when I did, I thought about using my Male name, but decided against it.

So after much thought, hmmm, thats where the smell of smoke came from :heehee: I decided on Daphne. It's a nice name, I like it, so thats what Im going to use :heehee:

I got my name from the first girl I had a crush on when I was younger. And, I've always loved that name so I desided to use it for ME. :battingeyelashes:

My first girlfriend's name was Andrea. My favorite show is the new Battlestar Galactica, which had a guest actress named Michelle Forbes. I merged them together when I needed a login for Yahoo.

In retrospect, I should have picked Alexandra. I've always liked that name.

I like the name "Cheryl", it is close to my birth name, and it sounds good to say it. Cheryl is more than a name, she is a person, with thoughts and feelings, and kindness.

In some respects I was lucky as my middle name on my birth certificate is Hilary. I hated this as a child and I was always beeing teased when other kids found out. Now I love it.

I chose the name Catherine O'Malley in tribute to two strong women. The first is Catherine the Great for her strength, leadership and her many sexual conquests, hence "the Great". The other is Grace O'Malley, the pirate queen of Scotland who lead a nation, was the terror of the seas and stared down the Queen of England.

Hugs,

Cathy

My name is Toots and it does not come from " Tootsie ". It comes from my cat who I named for a woman who is no longer with us. She was the girlfriend of a fellow musician. She liked my songs and would tell people about them. She looked like Amy Winehouse but this was thirtyfive years ago. I did not know her well but I loved her and miss her today. I will be Toots forever.

I was driving home a few months ago and I thought 'gee, I need a female name' and Aurora just sprung into my head an instant later. I've always been partial to names beginning and ending in 'a'. Then I realised that the name was also metaphorical, the shifting colours and patterns of an aurora representing my own constantly shifting personalities, as well as being powerful and beautiful - which I aspire to be.

I just wrote about this on my blog, it was one of those long thought out moments. If you're curious, here's the link: Did your parents name you Tracy? (http://tracyschapes.blogspot.com/2008/04/did-your-parents-name-you-tracy.html)

Love, Tracy

I came up with Traci Ann is I've always thought Traci was a very sexy name for a woman and Ann just seemed to go right along with it.

I thought about either Susan, Traci, or Nancy (as I've always thought these were very sexy names for a woman) and finally decided on Traci.

On a side note.....all the Traci's I've known were very sexy women. The Traci (she spelled hers Tracie) I knew in HS was a junior when I was a freshman and was also a cheerleader.

I also picked my own name Jamie because it just seemed right plus when I was a kid I had a crush on the bionic woman her name was Jamie and the last name Parks was the last name of a friends g/f she was so girly always had on cute clothes and ALWAYS had her nails painted she made a very big impression on me of what a cute girl looks and acts like(at least to me) .

I have not chosen a femme name yet. As someone stated that having a male name talking about femme stuff does not seem right. I may have to create one and I would use Rachael as a femme for Richard. I may have to re-register with that name. Unless a Admin would change it for me.
