For the 6 months I've been around here, trying to figure out which words describe what kind of CD I am. The latest "hobby" thread made me think more about it.

I get "off" from dressing now, but I didn't start out that way. And there's way more to it than that for me. So I'm not simply a Trannie or fetishist.

Since I stay comfortably in the closet it isn't a lifestyle or social thing. So, I don't really relate well to being TS/TG.

I don't think there's a woman inside me trying to show herself.

If it was just a hobby, why do I enjoy it so much and get such sexual satifaction from it? Is watching porn a hobby? Don't think so!

I seem to be always trying to push the window of different looks, from very young to older women, and a desire for increasingly exotic outfits. Femskin? Showgirl? Opera diva? Maybe I'll do one of those next, or all of them!

How about "female impersonator"? Don't they appear on stage? I don't ever step outside. So, I think not.

Maybe the best way to describe me as a CD, is as a " female illusionist". How does that sound?
Anyone else identify with that label?

Unique individual.

Why categorize yourself? Just be who you are and do what you do and go where you go and if you have to call it something, call it docrobbysherryness.

I agree, why try to fit into a mold. Why not just be happy being yourself??? I wear mostly female clothes. But I don't wear a wig all the time. As in a bra and panties every day.Since thyroid surgery, I'm now a 40C. So I wear a bra or they hurt. Not for show, but for comfort. And I do like to wear pretty lingerie, so I just am me. Even though I might not fit a mold, I fit me real well!!!..BJ

I agree as well. I've been part of this community since the early 1990's and have had a chance to see a lot of different people. The way I look at us is this; we are all in the book, most of us are on different pages and the one's that are on the same page might be on different lines. So what I mean is we are all different, just be yourself.

I like that! It's very descriptive, except it's a VERY long word. lol

Sherry,
If you could go to a place that was safe, accepting and none of your patients could possibly recognize you would you? Would Sherry like to break out of the house and mix with others at least once? Or does docsherryness mean you always keep to yourself?

You can call yourself whatever you like. It's your right and part of your individuality.

Is it a useful term to describe a lot of The Gurl's? I don't think so. For many, if not most of us, there is a feeling of "a girl/woman within." When we present as female it's not an illusion. It's an outward manifestation/expression of our inner feelings.

The others are right, labels are restrictive and we inhabit a world that doesn't even agree on the definitions for those labels. My only useful current label, "I am Joanie."

Peace and Love, Joanie

You sound a lot like ME--an "Escapist" I discovered that what I am doing is really a way to ESCAPE my normal male/ME identity, by effectively becomming someone else---a woman. I also do different ages and looks, with is further confirmation that I am persuing different (not me)identites, and not some hypothetical "female me" or "fem self" that seems to be the objective of the more "classic" Crossdresser.

Us escapists CD to get away from our real selves and be able to release our stresses and worries associated with the other identity. It also gets us "high" from a brain reaction associated with breaking identity lines (not unlike violating self preservation--as in thrill seekers)---and as a hetro, there IS a turn on factor too, being in close association with "female" legs face, etc.

Yes, Marina. I've read so many of your posts and identified with them. I used to like to dress in period men's clothes occasionally, 10+ years ago, before I CDed. I have some old movie suits I purchased at the MGM sales/auction back in the day. Too bad I didn't dress then! Famous star's period dresses for $10 each! Now, the thot of dressing anything "men's" bores me. Any outfit that shows a female underneath, no matter how far out it is, appeals to me now. I saw "Phantom" last weekend and lusted after the star's 1800's opera gowns! Where am I going with this?

Who is? :)

I CERTAINLY would never use the, " ---simply a trannie or fetishist", label to describe anyone here, Nicki. Thanks for pointing that out! I shouldn't have used those exact words.

I had a post in that "hobby' thread so know what you are talking about. None of us fit under a label of some type that defines who we are. We are all different in our own way and there is no "one size fits all". I don't worry about such things at all, I just live my life as who I am on the inside and do not care what anyone else has to say about it.
