I’ve come to understand that one can actually alter their physical shape with extended periods in corsets

Im thinking this must be a lil risky

Milla, I don't know about permanantly altering ones shape, but a close friend of mine who was a drag entertainer for many years told me she knows of several instances of girls lacing too tight and cracking/breaking ribs. Be careful hun. Huggs, Bonnie

No Milla there is no danger to corset if you do the right thing. You have to go VERY SLOWLY. I know it is exiting first, but your body will have to get used to it. Also you should buy a proper, custom made corset FOR TIGHT LACING! There are so many corsets and corselets and so on which look good but not made for tight lacing. I haven't found a tight lacing corset by Frederic of Hollywood for example.
In theorie you can tighten the two floating ribs till the meet, which can take years. Staylace.com got a x-ray of this. You must give your organs time to resattle to change position.
Do the right thing and you will find out the corset will hug you more then any lover.
Love to all from Norbie :)

The biggest danger I see is having extra stares.... People looking at that hourglass figure.... Don't cause any traffic accidents walking down the street!

As long as you don't over tighten a corset you have nothing to fear. To over tighten a corset to that degree, you would be in more than a little pain. I heard of cracked ribs also. The only other two concerns that I believe bears merit with a possible health problem is developing varicose veins if too tight or having weakened back muscles when not wearing one if you wear one for years 24/7.

If you wear the corset 24/7, or almost all the time, the ribs can actually take on a smaller measurement under the bust. When I was a 32" waist and tightened to 25-26 inch, my waist would be 28" for a while after I removed the corset... but it came back to 32" within a couple hours.

On the added health side, most back problems can be corrected with a corset. If you wear one that grabs the top of the hips and lower rib cage, squeezing in actually lifts all the weight off your spine. The corset is supporting your upper weight off your hips. I do know from experience that a corset can actually cause back pain if it doesn’t fit correctly, even when normally cinched. This is because the curvature is wrong and it forces the back to an unnatural curve. However, I hear this is normal with an S-Curve or Wasp type corset. I am no chiropractor, so I cannot say if this would be damaging the back, or teaching it to a new position.

I would suggest a few things:

1) Do not over tighten.
2) Give your body time to get used to a corset, tighten in stages.
3) Stay away from certain foods, especially carbonated drinks before and while wearing.
4) Buy one that fits right.
5) Read corset web site materials on the subject.
