View Full Version : I think it's something inside us

Hi everyone

Here are some thoughts I have to share with you. There have been times when I've been mistaken for a girl even though I was dressed as a boy (these were when I was younger than 10 years old or so, before I ever dressed fully or went beyond pantyhose -- only at home and in secret) and to this day I am often addressed as "ma'am" on the phone.

BUt here's the thing! My voice is not so high that you'd think it was female if you were to talk to me in person. As for the times I was mistaken for a girl, one was in the late 70s or early 80s and I was wearing a white Izod t-shirt and plaid paints and had a typical "bowl haircut" and all that was so typical for boys at that time. Another was while I was at my gymnastics lessons and there were girls and boys there. I got grouped with the girls even though they were all wearing a leotard (and many were wearing tights too) and I was in a t-shirt and shorts!

You would think that, visually, there was no indication I was a girl (other than my perhaps softish face with the big eyes and long eyelashes) and on the phone, again, my voice isn't high enough to even be androgenous (at least I don't think).

It makes me wonder if there wasn't some *other* cue (as they're so-called), beneath the surface somewhere, that they were picking up on? If so, then that would be some rather cogent evidence that my CDing really is a built-in part of me, hardwired into my brain.

Hell, I already suspect that lol but it's an interesting thought, wouldn't you say?

Hugs
Lisa

I doubt anyone picked up on the wiring of your brain Lisa. I expect it was more a visual image.

Don't forget that, although the things you wore and your haircut style may have been the 'norm' when you were growing up, the people looking at you grew up at a different time.

Thus, in their time, plaid pants may have been worn by girls more so than boys. Similarly, but not knowing how long the bowl cut was, your haircut may have looked like a short girl's bob.

Many women have deep voices, but which are still decidedly feminine. Think of actress Kathleen Turner for example. Have you ever listened to a recording of your own voice? It'll be different than what you here as you speak. Try it for grins anyway.

As for your big eyes and long lashes - they could definitely influence a more female look. wanna trade?
