I guess it depends on how you define it. I remember being curious about girls' clothing from a very early age (probably 4 or 5 years old). I even imagined myself wearing it. But at that early stage, it was more of an idle daydream than a strong "urge." It wasn't until I was 12 or 13 that the urges increased to the point that felt compelled to act on them.

Funny as it was I can remember my Mom telling me that I would take off my clothes when I was young and I look back and say maybe I did not like boys clothes and did not want to wear them, as my cousin lived in the same building and I use to love the way she was dressed. What I do remember was when I was about 6 or 7 when I use to dress in my Moms clothing and my Mom was 4'11 and wore a size 5 shoe. I would use her clothes and shoes and when It was a couple of years later, I remember coloring my nails with red crayons. When I was about 14, I use to wear the kerchief like the girls in the 50s did around the hair and tied around the neck so it appeared like I had long hair, I wore moms stockings, girdle to give me that walk and like I said her shoes which were small. That is quite unusual. Most crossdressers first tried on female clothing during childhood, and from what I have gathered in the way of feedback to surveys and from informal feedback), even though they might not have regularly dressed up in female clothes, the interest has been there since childhood.

I'm assuming you are saying that in your case, you'd never really thought about it until recent years?

I started with my mother's "bloomers" so I guess that gives my age away when I was around 12. I honestly don't remember exactly how old I was, only that from that point on I was hooked and have been all my life. I wonder if any of the older girls remember the rubber girdles. Well Emily Anderson, I was raised in the sticks up in Vermont. I had to work hard at an early age, and it was just kind of a type of life you wore stuff for being practical. Heck even the girls up there wear rubber boots, coveralls and wool underwear!

So I was not really exposed to much "girly" stuff, even around women. I do remember slipping on moms pumps, maybe feeling her undies in the wash. But no, not too much else.

It was only once I put on that dress that I just seemed to feel something. I know it's more that just a fetish, cause if that was the case I'd just keep some stuff for ,, uh,, my needs!

I want to buy a lot more stuff, clothing, makeup, padding and stuff, but I do it when I have the time and money. I guess I just have always had a very practical, and poor, upbringing. When your just working hard to make ends meet, a lot of stuff you might do just does not come out because of plain practical reasons.

Thank you all for voting on this. I am attempting to collect concrete data on the age when most people get the "urge/drive/whatever" as that has quite a bearing on "why" people do it.

At an age under 7 or 8 years old, society has not began to shape the person we will one day become (unless you have an extremely unusual...or horrible...childhood, that is) so the fact that the majority of people started, or got the drive, before age 8 shows this is NOT a social reaction, at least not totally. Children are naturally curious, but the curiosity of childhood usually leaves...well, with childhood.

The fact that a HUGE majority of people started before age 13 (the age bracket before puberty, when sexual interests would not have yet manifested for most of us) is exactly what i was expecting to see. Most psychological disorders per se do not manifest until after this period, and their onset can continue into adulthood. This does NOT mean that the few that started much later have any sort of disorder! It simply means they became curious later in life.

Looks to me like we were all wired this way, and thats just how it is. Some cognitive development definately occurs before the age of 7 or 8, and certainly before age 13, and there are those that would say "you are simply trying to emulate the strongest influence in your life up to that point, that being your mom." I say B.S. to that as well, and will collect data to support this at a later time.

There are too many things wrong with this statement to address here. But, suffice it to say that the statement: "...is exactly what I was expecting to see." says a lot about how you are interpreting the data.

If this is just a fun exercise to see what you get for responses, no problem. If, on the other hand, you are hoping to gather some useful info for some other reason, I would advise caution.

I think I was about 9-10. I found occasion to rummage around in my mother's drawers and found her drawers. They were drawers rather than panties and I didn't take a real interest again for a long while.

I was probably about 8 when I did my first (remembered) girl thing. I was taking trumpet lessons in my school after school hours . The instructor gave us a break, and I went wandering the halls. I didn't really hang out with the other kids .. my mum always said I was a loner, but it wasn't that, I just liked to be by myself and sit and think, and do my own thing -- which was not what the boys did (football, baseball, etc)

Anywho .. I walked down the hallway, and there it was .. the girls restroom. A quick look to the left, a quick look to the right, and I was in the door. Wow! After that, using the girls facility was something that I did all through my school years -- not on a really often basis until grade 12, but I did use the girls restroom in every school I ever attended.

Gradually I grew more and more into other gender stuff .. like cutting my head out of my school photo and sticking it on pictures of the girls in the Penney's, Sears, and Montgomery Ward's catalogues -- to see what I'd look like. By 11 I was trying on my girl cousin's swimsuit, and my sister's panties. By 13, I bought my first training bra and panties. And that was the 'no turning back' step!

outfits&stealing fresh packages of pantyhose out of her drawer,so I could wear all of her good short mini skirts&her short skirtsuits&heels.Many times I would wear one of her
