More evidence that the world is changing and kids are cool with it! Even some of the adults are going along this time.

Peabody female student gets OK for male prom date in drag
By Robin Kaminski / The Daily Item
PEABODY - Like most senior girls, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School student Deborah Lawson has been busy picking out a dress for the prom and securing a date for the big day.

But the twist to Lawson's fairy tale is that she wanted to bring a male friend to the dance -- one who would like to wear a dress as well.

PVMHS Principal Ed Sapie-nza reportedly balked at the notion and den-ied Lawson's request.

Ultimately, Lawson, 17, won the battle with the school to bring her friend to the dance when School Superintendent Milton Burnett gave her his OK shortly after Sapienza said no. The friend will wear one of Lawson's own dresses.

Further in the article, various kids support their classmate. Perhaps my favorite comment;

"If I saw him walking around in a dress, I might be taken aback by it at first, and think that it's kind of weird," Cassie Trombley, a junior at PVMHS said. "But if a girl wanted to wear a suit or a tux to the prom, I think that would be alright, so I'm OK with him wearing a dress."
Really, it's just clothing. People should be able to wear whatever "suits" them... (pun intended)

That is awesome. I dont see why the principal would deny the girl to have her friend come he would be in formal wear. I understand it might be weird but i would rather see a kid in a dress then all that disgusting grinding. It seems easy for girls to accept the fact we crossdress where as most guys would shun at the idea.

"They're all gonna laugh at you!"

I can also imagine the bullies picking on the poor crossdresser. I have a male friend who dressed as a girl and had a male date for her prom. She had a beautiful gown, her date had a tux and her mother let her have her own prom at home. They decided NOT to go to the "real" prom, since crossdressing was not permitted.

My impression, from knowing a fair number of High Schoolers (friends kids) is that they are more accepting than we imagine of different dress and lifestyle choices. Sure, there will probably be some kidding ... but heck, they will also kid people just because of the color of a dress or whether Tom tied his bowtie right etc...

Hat's off to those kids !!

I love this story. If something like this would have happened at my school I probally would have gone to my prom and he wouldn't have been the only one in a dress. Have you seen some of the new prom dresses Ohhhhh...

That may account for some of the tolerance we see here...

I cannot imagine the same story coming out of W. Virginia or any other such state...

Mass has a long history of leading in social tolerance dating back to being the very first of the states to abolish slavery - decades before the emancapation proclamation.

Massachusetts and New Hampshire enacted state constitutions with declarations of rights that seemed to prohibit slavery. In Massachusetts, a series of freedom suits brought on behalf of Quok Walker eventually resulted in a 1783 court decision that the 1780 constitution granted rights incompatible with slavery and therefore slavery was abolished "as effectively as it can be without resorting to implication in constructing the constitution."

This should NOT be a big deal! Anyone, should be allowed whatever they want to a prom, as long as they're dressed up!

Of course, all the guys wearing dresses r gay, and girls wearing suits, dykes! Oh, by the way, r they still burning witches in New England?

As I understand it, the topic of witch burning is being held back from the US Supreme Court during this term in hopes that John McBush will be elected and finally stack SCOTUS with 4 more angry christian white males in Pilgrim Garb.

More love from the "tolerant" libs.

On a brighter note. I'm happy they are allowing "diversity and tolerance " in the halls of the diversity and tolerance indoctrination centers (aka public schools). It's encouraging to read about young people stepping out and maybe taking the lead on getting the word out that CDs are people too. I hope they have a great time.

Now I am happy for this! Now has anyone noticed that these stories come out every year around prom time? And when they do the school has a problem with it even if the student dressed the whole year as with what happened last year and the year before that, in those cases both are TS.

NY High School: No male escort? No prom.
Here's some random sexism for you. A Staten Island high school has banned female students (it's all all-girls school) from attending their prom without a male date.

The juniors at St. Peter's Girl's High School have one week to find a boy to take to prom, or they're not allowed to go. It's a new rule that has some parents upset.
"I don't think it's right because what if they don't have a boyfriend?" mother Tanya Altieri said. "They got to be forced to go bring somebody off the street, or a cousin? That's embarrassing … or your brother?"

...Added New Brighton resident Mimi Quillin: "That's really sad, because I thought we'd just gotten to the point where boys and girls, if they wanted to do it stag, alone, whatever, they could do it."

Apparently one of the reasons that girls can't attend without a male escort is the fear that without a proper date, the gals will get a little too crazy. Yeah, you know we need dudes to keep us in check.
