Alright, here's the skinny, more or less.
I've been interested in cross dressing for... well, awhile. I'll leave it at that. However, I've never actually took the initiative to go out and buy some clothes/makeup/anything at all. So here's my situation.
For Halloween this year, I'm going to cross dress. I hope it isn't offensive to you guys, seeing as how you've all put alot of effort into it and for many it's practically a second life. I'm just choosing Halloween because if something goes wrong, I can play it off like it's just a one time costume.
ANYWHO, are my stats (Or whatever you guys would call them.)
I'm 5'6", slim build. I only weigh 115 pounds, most of it muscle (I'm very athletic, I run cross country, wrestle, and pole vault.) I can upload pictures at a later time of my face and body if that would help with advice.
My sister is willing to help me out with this costume (She's a very girly girl, so she would be able to help me with make up and the like.) However, being a girl, she's about as clueless about cross dressing as I am.
Anything I should shoot for? I'm on a budget (Work at McDonald's money is scarce.) I'm against buying 200 dollar breast attachments, but I'm not completely opposed to the idea of a nice 50 dollar wig... What kind of clothes should I wear? Anything certain things to avoid? I'm still in school, so I'll be wearing this around campus.
In short, help me out! Thanks.

Well.......I suppose you could start by reading this thread. This is from a guy in NY who also wanted to dress for a special event, but wasn't a CD. Some advice from the girls takes him through the whole thing...
There'll be plenty of advice if you're being straight (pun intended) with us...
If your sis is gonna help you, you shouldn't have any problems.

With your sister helping you, you'll do fine. Holloween is a great time to dress and go out. Just be yourself and you will have fun. And you don't need to spend a lot of money.
Welcome to the site!

you can buy a cheap pair of breastforms at walmart. it is not offensive that you want to dress for halloween, halloween is a crossdressers excuse to go out in public enfemme for their first time. we all have used halloween for our first step out of the closet. once you have your first outing, you will be hooked on going out enfemme, good luck in your adventures, you will have wonderful times enfemme.

You can go to thrift stores and get some nice stuff really cheap. As for what to wear, well, Halloween is an "anything goes" kind of day. Otherwise, it is better to dress like the girls your age normally do in everyday life. Anyhoo, do as you please, and have fun!!!

Honey, this is YOUR dream... so what is it you want? Girl-next-door? Schoolgirl? Business woman? Formal wear? Female costume (french maid is popular:D)? There's a whole world of choices out there. Once you've decided, ask your sister to help with shopping and to get the right sizes. Check out the Beauty section for tips on covering up your beard shadow and share those with your sister so she can help with your makeup. And have a great time... but don't be surprised if it doesn't stop there.:)

I've been there.. worked at McD's... all I can say is that I bought a lot of my clothing off of bargain racks and shoes from payless and pantyhose and tights from all over the place.. the truth is you don't have to have the best to pull off looking fem.. I bought a cheap costume wig for around five bucks and wile it won't fool anyone on a close up, from a distance it fools the camera lense.. I'm the last person to ask about this but I think just trying to look fem is enough.. sometimes.. and you're gonna do this on Halloween, the night most crossdressers get "dared" into dressing up.. this doesn't offend me in the least because that is when most men try to crossdress and feign the taunting because it is Halloween.. it's easy to go with the flow of what people will say about it.. try to wear a week after Halloween and see what people say then... but I do think crossdressing for Halloween is a good way to "come out" without coming out, but if you are wanting to crossdress from scratch you will want to start to dress up through the next few months to get the right clothing combination (dress or skirt.. pantyhose/tights, shoes, wig, jewelry, etc..) and good luck.. and read other posts here for help.. everyone is very helpful..

My suggestion is that you avoid dressing. It's a life long deal if you find out it feels right to you.
If you've already tried it when you wee younger, then you are probably already commited to continuing to dress. If this is the case, your sister should be able to provide you with a great deal of help.
Thrift stores, like goodwill, have quite a lot to offer by way of clothes. You could probably find several outfits ALL for less than $20.
Breast forms: You could make some from foam, or polyfill, or birdseed. But for your size, I would suggest the bra isle at wal-mart. They sell breast enhancers and/or adhesive bras.

Donna has got the cheapest source for those "augmentation breastforms." Twenty bucks is about as cheap as you can get them. But if you want BIGGER, but on the cheap; use the old trick of water filled balloons or baggies filled with bird seed or rice.
No, they aren't breastforms but you get a decent effect and it costs little or nothing. A lot of Gurls start with those two items to fill our a bra. If you use the water balloons be careful! We have all heard, or experienced situations where "The Dam Broke!"

What kind of custume do you want for halloween---anything of leather start saving ---other things aint so bad---my advice is the same as above---start looking for outfits in Goodwill and other thrift shops now---and you are right on the wig---that's where you should be spending the most money---once your hair is right(and your make up) everything else will fall into place.

My first time out dressed was when I was 13 and went to a halloween party as a girl. It was my Moms idea and she dressed me up. I had a lot of fun at that party that night dressed as a girl. I think that was when I really got hooked even though I had been dressing up for six years before that.

Halloween was my first time out fully dressed. Dressed as IT Jane, unlike you I am tall and heavy , but I went dressed in Pumps, nylons, red miniskirt, red thong panties, white v-neck blouse., padded bra and wig. If you do dress up definitely shave all-over. It was exciting.
Based on your build you would look fantastic dressed up. You just need to figure what kind of outfit you want, ****ty, fashionable business like, fantasy type outfit. This year I was thinking two possible outfits for myself, a Marilyn Monroe outfit, the white dress blowing upwards outfit, or possibly a white wedding gown (always a bridsemaid never a bride scenario). Looking forward to another day at work.
In the meantime try dressing up and going out for walks in the park or shopping. With good make-up and a wig slender guys look very nice dressed up. Kimberly say's go out with you cosmetician, you'll gain lots of confidence.
