Hi guys,

something terrible happened a few hours ago.
Whilst playing in the garden one of the dogs (Jagoda, 8 years old) got a heartattack and fell screaming on the ground. When she fell she was already dead. We tried cpr in a reflex, but off course it was pointless...

For a dog a beautiful way to go, but it still feels terrible. From our dogs she was one of my biggest friends, I'll really miss her.

I hope this make you feel better this is a story I found.

Why people live longer than dogs.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year- old Irish Wolfhound named Bellcore. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Bellcore and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Bellcore and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Bellcore, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Bellcore's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Bellcore slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Bellcore's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Bellcore's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God

Thanx Adam and Anna, beautiful story indeed. Children can be so wise sometimes. I must say that I'm accepting this way for a dog to die a lot better than what happened to another one a few months ago (of this kind we had two, the other one became 9). She suddenly got very ill and had a lot of pain, that hurts me much more and always leaves me with a "why" and anger.

It makes it more difficult this time because we were still dealing with the loss of the other dog, it kinda hit me.

Well, we've got other dogs to care for too (whippets). It's beautiful how they can help you forget and accept.

I am so sorry. Having lost several dogs before I understand the pain. Not much can be said to ease the pain but at least be glad she didn't suffer.

I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is always very difficult, and animals are often no less family members than people are. :hugs:

Thanx everyone :hugs:
Even though we have other dogs, it's so empty without her. I really don't know what to do...

So sorry to hear about your loss. It's so hard losing a pet. A good way to go for her, but doesn't make it easier for you.

I'm so sorry to har this and I understand your pain, animals become a member of the family and it's hard when anything happens to them. Doesn't make it any easier but at least she didn't suffer. Remember all the good things about her. :hugs:
