One of the most common things I hear about presenting as a girl/woman is that CD's should smile more, or that a smile will make them more convincing.

I'm not convinced, only because when I walk down the street, I don't see all the GG's smiling. They just look normal to me.

Perhaps it's more about not looking nervous, or frowning, or looking furtive, somehow out of place... I can't quite put my finger on it....

But smiling, well I'm not so sure.

I think it's not just smiling. GGs, when interacting, use a much broader and more enhanced range of facial and body expressions than do GMs when interacting - in general - there are always exceptions of course. Look at any group of people and see the differences. Any GG walking down the street, like any human not interacting with another human looks like the rest of us - neutral.

Well, that's my view anyway - happy to be educated by those with other views as always!

The smiling comes from the heart. I myself tend to smile when making eye contact. Men don't do that too often. Women tend to smile when making eye contact, of a way of saying "hi." No other words needed unless situation grants more interaction. Men don't see those smiles very often because most don't interact unless needed. At least this is what my dad and I have observed and discussed. :2c:

When I hear that, it is usually a comment made with regard to a posted picture. It may not make them more convincing, but it sure would make the picture more pleasant to look at.

When out in public, I'd think that the CDer would automatically smile, as it would reflect the pleasant experience of being out.

most folks recommend that when taking pics and posting them as it makes one a little more lady like....

as for in public if someone is looking at me when i wakl by i smile and say hello, it catches them by surprise:D:2c:

I smile with my eyes ...it would be rare to catch me with a ear to ear smile ...matter fact when I see either gender walking around with a huge grin on their face I think hmmmmmm what devious things are going thru their minds :)Emily is right most normal ppl you see walking down the street dont wear a huge smile

I smile when I feel good, and when I don't feel good and smile, I get a memory of feeling good, and then I feel better.

Anyhow, if it works for Pageant Beauties and Used Car Salesmen....why shouldn't it work for me? We are all selling our image, after all.

For those of us in "stealth mode", shy of attention, a zipped lip might a better strategy.

Funny. The thing I've been complimented the most on as a T-girl is my smile.

<-------------------- See?

More than my clothes, more than my hair, more than my presentation as a girl. More than anything.

GGs do smile differently than men. My female smile is actually much different than my relaxed male smile. Plus smiling like a girl rounds out my cheeks giving me a natural femmine facial structure. I think everyone should smile more. :D

Since I've been presenting myself in public in a far more androgynous state I have noticed that more women smile towards me - and these are genuine smiles, not smirks or mockery - than ever did before when I presented 100% male.

I also recall a trip out as Deb from a hotel, and when I returned for a final drink in the bar before heading to bed, a woman in the bar (she was with a couple of guys) gave me the most heartwarming smile.

So perhaps there is something in the smile that men don't get from women but other women (and as a pre op TS I include myself in that group) do receive

Surely you should just do what comes naturally to you?

If I see a GG grinning like a cheshire cat for no obvious reason, I would think she was a bit weird. Id only smile if you are happy, or if someone you fancy smiles at you first.

Euh, should I smile and be genuinely myself, whiten my teeth and give the glamour-girl-come-porn-chick look, leer like a used car salesman, grimace like the village idiot, show my toothless granny gummies or what?

We're back on track... I think. But probably not :)

If women smile at men, then they tend to find pretty rapidly they're asking for trouble... They do however smile, pay compliments, etc to each other?

:D
