Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted on here for yonks, so this may have been asked before ....

I have an appointment with my psychiatrist later this week, and want to ask him to prescribe female hormones. He is not a gender specialist, and has been treating me for depression and dysphoria since I had a nervous breakdown in Novermber 06.

I have requested a referral to the Gender Identity Clinic at Charing Cross, but have been told that the health authority will have to apply for grant funding for any treatment, since it appears, I am the only TG in the whole of South Wales (UK), and no-one here knows anything about it !!

So here's the question : Is there any other Gender Clinic in the UK i can go to for advice, either on the NHS or privately ? and do I need to get specialist advice prior to beginning hormone therapy ?

Thanks

Annie C

Privately I believe there is Dr Richard Curtis - a lot of UK girls go to him.

As for the NHS, unfortunately its a slow path. I'm due to have my second meeting at the GIC in Nottingham in a couple of weeks, but they won't prescribe hormones until you have a timetable to go full time.

And you're not the only TS in South Wales!!!!

Are you a member of "Roses Forum"? There is a lot of useful information from UK girls on there.

I am probably out of the top of my hat here but is it necessary to go to the NHS?

I sent AC a message suggesting she might want to try a private doc for hormones. They arent expensive (at least here in the colonies...) It isnt rocket science and any GP, OB/GYN or Endo should be able to prescribe but the trick is to get the proper testing done first so that the levels are correct and thus reduce the associated risks.

Just my thoughts.

:hugs:

Hi Annie,

Be assured you are not the only TS in South Wales, my good friend Karen runs GRS Wales, she might be able to assist in connecting you with other girls. http://www.grswales.co.uk/

Health Commission Wales have been refusing to treat those with GID for 3 years or more, I had heard this was about to end, but I don't know the full facts.
