View Full Version : Changing my femme name

Probably like many of you, I chose my name a long time ago, in the infancy of my CD'ing. At the time it sounded like a good idea, because I was into all things frilly and girly and such. However, as time goes on, I'm no longer a spring chicken, so I'm thinking of changing my femme name to something more appropriate for my age.

That's the advantage of being a CD'er!

Emily sounds a bit too prissy missy. I'm thinking of changing it to something a bit more exciting... Maxine, for example. It has a certain ring about it, Max as in "going for the gusto", and the "ine" part that adds the feminine flavour.

I'll probably have to look up some more names, but for now that's what I have found.

How many of you have changed your identity based on the discovery of a new name?

I know what you mean Emily, our tastes in names changes. There have been many times I wished I had a more femiine name but then everyone knows me as Bev so It would only confuse everyone if I started changing things. And knowing me I'd want to change again in a pretty short time.

Mind you I love the name Emily. So much so I have called me eldest daughter it. I think it is extremely femme and very pretty. My youngest daughter is called Rosie and for my Partner I chose Jay. All three favourite names of mine so which one I'd have chosen for myself had I been able to change I really dont know.

My very favouritest name of all time though has got to be Eugenie, pronounced UJaynee. I just love it I mean how femm can you get and its Royal.
Take care
Bev

I think you are right about us changing our names as we mature on our journey. It is funny in a way but way back when I started out I thought of myself as Karen, then I went through several name changes along the way but about 10 years ago I began to realize that Karen fit me. It was appropriate for women my age, it would have been the type of name my mother might have given me had I been born a GG, please note I didn't say female because I was born female, just my plumbing was a bit messed up :daydreaming:, and it reminded me of a girl I had gone to school with way back when. She was always so pretty and feminine and I am sure how I would have been back then had circumstances been right.

Just wanted to say, I also love the name 'Emily' soft and feminine, and also seems to be making a comeback in popularity amongst those having children now.

It is a classic feminine name, and sorry when I think of Maxine, I think of the cartoon Maxine character, sort of old and brash. I would insert a pic of her if I knew how to do that on here, but I haven't figured that out yet.

I grew up with the name 'Dolly' and I too have gone through that phase where I wanted it to be more 'me' as I am today so I ask people just to refer to me as 'Doll' now.

Perhaps you might considered using 'Emm' sort of has the sound of drawing more attention, but then it also seems to lose it's feminity.

For me, finding the right feminine name took some time. Back in 2003 I saw the movie "Italian Job" starring Charlize Theron, liked her style, look, attitude, and unique name. That was when I picked the name "Chari". Changing my name, would mean having to change and establish new credit cards, personal ID, etc.

I am perfectly happy with the name Susan.I gave this name to myself around 25 years ago, long before the internet and forums such as this one. To change it now would make no sense to me. If I did then I would have explain this to every on-line friend I have. So for me there will be no name change.

Hi Emily,

I am very happy with my name and probably would never change it! To me, when I look in the mirror (Lacie) which is my nick name is who I see
I go by the full name of Sylvia Whitelace but sometime people like to call me Sylvia and that's fine also

I think Emily is a wonderful name reminds me of a flowerchild ( hippie chick) I once knew very earth and hot.... but ah you gotta be diggin it.

If it's not working for you find one that expresses your true existence and and makes you bubble .

Try this it might help . Try renaming yourself for one week or so, don't use Emily at all ... if you can be truly be satisfied id wise you'll know it . If you miss the Emily name you'll get that message loud and clear.
best of luck hun hugs ....:battingeyelashes:lacie

I've used one male name my whole life, it was chosen for me and I'm happy with it. I have used several femme names, each of which I chose for myself, right now I'm happy with Vanessa but as in all things that is subject to change.

Like Bev, I also have a daughter named Emily :) She is a smart, funny, very self possessed, slightly tomboy-ish girl - nothing the least bit frilly about her! I often say that she channels Bart Simpson except she is way smarter :tongueout.

I have hated my name at various stages of my life, but have come to terms with it.

Yes I like Vanessa,
My best friend at Primary school was called Vanessa, she was from an extremely wealthy family and her dad used to call her Van which when said with a posh accent sounds quite foreign.
Take care

I also like the name "Emily," it is not a name often picked by a crossdresser. It isn't silly and is relatively uncommon.

I would like to change my name, but hesitate for the same reasons :)

I used the name Michelle. It never felt right and for the longest time I went without a girl's name. When I started my blog and got on the Internet, I felt I had to have something that fit, Tracy just seemed right.

I like Emily too, and I don't think it is so "prissy missy"! If you want it to sound a little more refined and age appropriate, why not go with Emeline? It being French gives it that certain je ne sais quoi!

Love, Tracy

Yeah Emily is a good practical name.
Maxine - that name sounds like a bad girl or something.
But then for being CD it really doesn't matter much. Gyod during the infancy of my CD'ing, I used a Gawd awful name that sounded like some granny hosting a tea party.

Emily is such a lovely name. To me, it reminds me of women from the 1800's who were known for their pioneering strength and beauty.

When I hear the name Bev or Beverly, I think of someone that is subtly sophisticated and warmly personable to all. Your name is lovely as well.

My 2 cents worth - thank you.

I don't understand why someone would want to change their name just because the are older. Would a GG change her given name just because she is getting older. I think not unless she was given a real bad name to start. :daydreaming:

Thanks to everyone for responding!

I was thinking of changing it because I thought it sounded too young for my age (mid-forties), but indeed GG's do not change their name, so why should I?

Besides, thanks to your positive feedback it sounds like a name people appreciate, so I'll stick with it.

Stay as Emily, it's a lovely name.

Kimmie
07-26-2008, 10:05 AM
I initially went with Kimberley. But I changed it to Kimmie because it seems more playful and reflected an aspect of my personally that I don't get to express as a guy.

On another occasion I was playing poker, and at the table I nailed a guy for alot of money because I instinctively knew what cards he had, called him on it after he put all his money in and lost. After he mucked I introduced myself as Clair, Clair-Voyant. If I do the drag queen thing. I might go with that.

I'd have to vote for sticking with Emily as well. The thing about names is their popularity shifts with the wind. Think about the names bestowed upon our grandparents. Some of those are pretty funky and I doubt would be a top choice for use by a TG girl. However, there are a lot of new-age names which are so cute for a child but would be hard to picture on a grandparent. While I suppose we have the luxury of changing our name as we go through stages in life, we certainly don't have to. I'm all for finding the right name and sticking with it, especially if it has become part of your identity. Emily may sound young but I don't think it's any less appropriate for use at any age.

From my exalted age (73) 40 looks like a teenager!! Who am I to talk, my SO is 32. (Cradle Robber!!)

But honestly I feel and look more like 40's or (yeah-50"s, I hate to admit it!)

I don't think since GG's change their names except when they get married and then only their last names, there is any reason to change your name even as a CD, since people get used to you by that name. And if you do change your close people will slip and call you by your old name frequently.

After a year, my sister still slips sometimes and uses my male name.

One thing I really like that had bugged me all my life, was that I went by my middle name, until I got involved with social security then had to use my first name I didn't like, since they go by your full name; but now my first name is the name I use.

The name chose me, I had set up the email in that name months before I knew I was really female. And when I trasitioned, I just KNEW that was my name. I do think I may have originally gotten it from Lainie Kazan, whose name I liked, but there are other coincidences I later realized:
I had a gf at 20-22 named Laney, I had a friend named Laney, mother of a student, my first love was Elaine, reversal of the sounds is Lainie, and 54 years later we are still in touch. My mother treated her like another daughter all her life.

Emily you have a beautiful name and it doesn't go with a particular age. Look at the famous Emily's in poetry, literature. I had an aunt named Emily.

Bev, one of my most admired friends in my 20's to 70's was named Beverly, she was named after a male banker named Beverly according to her father, my surrogate father. I shudder to think of how old she is now, late 80's I would guess. I always thought Beverly was a beautiful name.

I also have a favorite person named Vanessa also, and I think that is one of the prettiest of names. She is one of the prettiest of girls in my book.

Emily I suppose the name is what you make of it. Emily sounds perfectly lovely, although a Maxine sounds so much more flashy. I would ask you what your dressing style is?

I changed my name after a 5 year break, before that in my teens I had 2 names which where Marcia (Mar-Cee-A) age 12-18, Connie age 18-24, and now Victoria 1999-, I have no intentions on changing my name.

Yes, I sometimes like that people have taken to calling me "Val" here. If I were to 100% come out of the closet, I would probably change my female name to something closer to my boy name, if nothing else, it makes answering the phone easier;)

I'm on my second name. I went with Emma originally because someone asked me and I didn't have a name yet so I just blurted it out. Years later, coming back from a hiatus, I decided on Kayla. But who knows if this will last many more years or I'll see another reason to change it.

Yes, our Eugenie is not so present in this forum in these days as she used to. As a french woman, she has also got a french name. Whereas I'm a french girl too ... but not with a french name !

Coming back to our Emily, I appreciate very much this name of Emily. It find it absolutely lovely, as many of us here do, and I am very pleased she is decided to stick with it.

Hugs
