At 11 this morning I have my 9th zapping with the laser, so if you hear the howls of pain coming from tyneside England, its probably me haing my upper lip done.

I cannot wait to be facially hair free, so I never have to shave again.

Hope it all went well for you.

I myself have had 8 sessions of laser on my face.

Will need to have a 9th (hopefully that WILL be the last time).

I'm happy for you both. I'm in between sessions 2-3 and have a ways to go, but I can already see small patches on my face where it's not growing back. I didnt expect that so soon. Yay!! Oh, to be free of shaving, forever!!! I will not go full time until it's completed. Good luck.

Hugs,

Melissa:)

Well, I am on time 21 next week, The first place I used got about 70% of the black hairs that was 13 treatments and since I have been going to American Laser, they will not guarantee the white or gray hairs but it is working. I do not have much left. No more black hairs at all, I am hoping that I will not need much electorlis at this point. I am please but I now so close that I am getting somewhat impatient. Best of luck to you. JC

Good Grief 9 treatments 21 treatments! I am due for my 5th treatment in a few weeks and it seems that they are getting more painful after each one.

Hi Jocelyn,

I can concur with the pain you experience, my laser specialist upped the heat level this time. I still have many stubble hairs particularly around the the lips, chin, the jawline and the neck. They seem to be very stubborn, and even after 9 sessions; and whilst I can accept the pain a little more than I used to, I am not going to pretend that it is a doddle because it isn't; so your experience mirrors mine. I physically cried during my first ever session, I'm not that bad now, but the upper lip is definately the worst part.

Once I have had 14 sessions I might finish it off with electrolysis, now that is pain free in my experience, though others may disagree.

Thing is we all have different pain thresholds, and different skin types, and this can determine redness and sorteness afterwards. I'm pale skinned so I redden easily, but as they say no pain no gain.

My next zapping (session 10) is October 1st, I wish you well for your next one and same to all the girls.

lots of love

Just had my 4th today & was told only 2 more regular treatments. After that I may need a maintance one once in awhile. But even thes should be done by the end of March(5/6 week between treatments). The system I am on is fairly new, it is call IPR(think I got it right). Pain gets less & less as the dark hairs disappear. Only place still a tad painful is right uptight to my nose otherwise anyone could handle it(after the 1st treatment).
Was told today also that my skin from it is looking wonderful. & I know it is getting soft like a baby's bottom.
Well thats my .02 for the night.
hugs,
Janelle

You were close, Janelle. It's IPL laser and is the latest treatment. However, 6 sessions sounds a little short to me. The guy who does mine is extremely educated and certified in every aspect of hair removal(which is why I travel further than I need to, just to see him), and told me to expect a year to a year and a half for male beard removal, and that anyone who tries to tell you less than a year is either not knowledgable, or giving you false hope. You need to stay on top of these people. After all, you arent paying them pennies. Like I said, my guy is extremely knowledgable, but I question the heck out of him every time I'm there. I'm not going to put thousands into this to come away dissapointed. I have heard some sad stories about beard removal, so, buyer beware.

Hugs,

Melissa:)

Hi Janelle,

I am undergoing IPL, number of treatments and pain threshold differs from person to person, ie skin type, age etc. There is an old saying, no one size fits all. I am in extreme agony with the laser, my clinician has to raise the heat level, because at 44 the hairs become stubborn.

I don't expect to be totally hair free until about Mid 2010, with the electrolysis added to the equation.

If having IPL, you will need more treatments.

Laser is more effective.

This is the reason why some might need say 21 treatments!

Yes I must've had near on 20 treatments and it was very successful on most of my dark hairs but didn't budge the gray, white or redish hairs. As they said that it should take 6-8 treatments they reduced the price after the 10th treatment until I was paying just AU $20 for the last 6 visits. Getting the top lip done was incredibly painful for me. Just make sure your laser operator does this area as quickly as possible. I tried the numbing cream for an hour beforehand with no real effect but I found that taking pain killers an hour before made a difference, although not all the time. The effect for me was well worth it with the blue coloration of my beard completely gone and it has the added bonus of making me look several years younger...woo hoo!

Ladies,

I truly sympathize with each and every one of you. I signed up for the full body package (everything from the face on down :battingeyelashes: ) with Ideal Image last summer, and so far have had 7 complete rounds of treatment (7th round was completed 2 weeks ago).

I used to be one of most hairy people around, and now I am the complete opposite. I'm happy for you that you're almost done and I can't wait for my own treatments to be completed as it truly is quite painful, especially on the face. I have come to tears a couple of times even WITH prescription numbing cream so I know what you're going through. It's not easy, but we've got to hang in there :)

I stand corrected it's my 6th treatment. I guess I'm losing count, the good thing is that I am mostly hair free except for a few stubborn hairs under my lip. After the last treatment I only suffered from the blister phase for about 1 week.

I did have 21 treatment but it with Laser, not elect. laser is more effective.

Hi Atanna,

I was the original hair bear, and still am, as the hormones haven't done that much and I cannot afford the huge costs of body laser.

Yes it is on dark or black hair, but not white or grey hairs, I need electrolysis to rid myself of them.

Steph,

Please explain a lot more on pain level and costs and what effect it is having, for one trying to get the Op.

I could not even hope to imagine having to go throught 21 treatments! I just did my second a few weeks ago and it was bad enough.

I have the dubious distinction of having blond chin hair. great for not showing right away but not so good after a week of not shaving. :(

Steph,

I'll do my best. Some people if sun bathing burn quite bad before going brown, yet others just tan straightaway, this is based around the type of skin and amount of melanin in the skin. I have very pale skin, which when blasted with laser goes very red and sore. Others with less pale skin can accept the laser with more ease of tolerance, or so I am told, but I have no evidence to that being factual.

Then there is the heat level, which has low, medium, high and very high, as I've gone through my laser the heat level has gone up, because there are some stubborn hairs which my specialist reckons require a greater level of heat.

The higher the heat level you go, the more it hurts (in my experience). That said some other girls say they do not go red and it does not hurt.

So experiences differ from one person to another.

Hi Viktoriya,

Electrolysis will remove white or blonde hairs, this is my next step once my specialist says she sees no benefit from further laser blasts

Hi Fenasia,

I have had plenty of electrolysis in the past pre laser, and whilst it was good, I could not maintain the regular sessions, due to cost. So many of the hairs did return, but by no means all.

To get maximum effect out of electrolysis you really do need to put the hours in as they say, the more the area treated per session the better and the regularity of the treatment too.

When I start I will most probably be having an hour session approximately every week, though I know some girls can take a 2 hour session, it all depends how long you can cope with lying down in the treatment position.

As for effectiveness of permanent hair removal, this again differs from person to person, however the combination of the laser, then the electrolysis aided by hormone treatment should at the very worst result in just a few light downy white hairs remaining and many genetic women have that so no worries.

I took a picture of myself pre first ever laser session, it was 4 days of beard growth circa November 2007 and I look at it now and I can see what progress I have made.

Would you say that electrolysis is better than laser for beard removal?

For the recorrd IPL is not LASER. IPL = Intense Pulsed Light, LASER = Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. I have not heard much positive information on IPL. People often mistake it for a type of laser. I hope you did your research before trying it.

If you have a lot of dark hair, it is best to use laser to get rid of those first.
This is because electrolysis only deals with one hair at a time - when you are paying a pro on a timed basis, it gets expensive. Laser is much quicker, so cheaper.

If you then find any light hairs after the dark ones have been treated, then use electrolysis for those - there will be fewer to deal with.
